To think 19 is hot enough for a Lido swim?

19 today, when I'm taking DC. H is shocked and doesn't think it's okay, as it'll be too cold to be out in water at just 19.

But it's a sunny 19, not cloudy. And the session is only 45 mins.

AIBU? DC is only small to be fair Blush

Well I don't think you're all die of hypothermia but it would be too cold for me definitely!

MinesAPintOfTea · 30/05/2021 08:08

Is it heated? I swam in a heated outdoor pool through winter, and there were little tots in the Easter holidays when I took DS post lockdown.

NotYourAverageDaisy · 30/05/2021 08:09

It is heated, I think?!

It did say that last time I went. Can't remember if it still is due to Covid

How warm is the water? Is it heated? If the water is the same sort of temperature that is bloody cold. I definitely wouldn't take a small child if it's not heated.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/05/2021 08:09

Well people do outdoor swimming all year round but it would be a no from me! Too cold.

NotYourAverageDaisy · 30/05/2021 08:11

For those saying too cold, what temp would you go at?

I thought 19/20 was fine. 23/25 great. 30 also very fab but won't be nice as it'll be packed

If it’s heated, of course!!!

If it isn’t, wear a wetsuit and you’ll be fine. The water will be about 14 if it’s unheated.

beryltheperilrocks · 30/05/2021 08:12

It's fine! pre covid the best days we had at the outdoor pool were cooler ones..less busy. Our nearest one is now only lane swimming. so I am waiting until June 21st when, hopefully, tis limit will be removed!

Northernsoullover · 30/05/2021 08:13

Air temperature is fine. If the pool isn't heated though, no chance!

howtocomplain · 30/05/2021 08:13

People go swimming all year round. Having had some cold summer holidays on the beach in Wales and Scotland, yes, 19 is plenty if you enjoy it.

Depends on how hardy your DC are! If they enjoy it, go for it!

isthismylifenow · 30/05/2021 08:14

What is a Lido swim?

If it is not heated the water will be freezing if it's only 19 outside.

I'm not in UK and it was 20 degrees here yesterday and when I checked my pool thermometer, the water was 6 degrees.

purplesequins · 30/05/2021 08:15

sounds great!

take somethinv to wrap up in after being in the water and don't forget sun screen.

enjoy!

Air temperature and water temperature vary hugely.
DeathStare · 30/05/2021 08:18

I think you're looking at the wrong variable. It's the water temperature that matters not the air temperature. I've swum in heated pools outside when the air temperature is sub zero and it's fine.

Competitive swimming pools are usually about 26 degrees and that feels bloody cold to a leisure swimmer. I certainly wouldn't take a small child in it.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 30/05/2021 08:20

How old is DC?

Littlegoth · 30/05/2021 08:20

We’ve got a lido nearby too and also thinking about it!

Myglassishalfempty · 30/05/2021 08:21

The water will not be 14 degrees if it isn't heated! More like 4 degrees! Having a staycation near Brighton this weekend and the lido was pretty busy yesterday. I think that one is heated.

Birthdaywhatshallido · 30/05/2021 08:21

(I say it’ll be 14 if unheated because that’s the temp of the unheated ljdo near me right now. The heated is also heated at 20, and it’s completely fine. Lovely and warm.)

Stokey · 30/05/2021 08:21

My friend took our kids to the lido on Friday. It would have been too cold for me but they were fine. Kids don't tend to mind cold water as much. Mine were in the sea in Wales at Easter when it was 12 outside.

Bayleaf25 · 30/05/2021 08:22

Our lido is heated to 26 degrees and is lovely whatever the outside temperature.

newnortherner111 · 30/05/2021 08:23

OK for you, not sure about DC, be prepared to cut the session short if needs be.

MachiaNelly · 30/05/2021 08:23

No chance. Too cold.

myfuckingfreezer · 30/05/2021 08:24

The heated is also heated at 20, and it’s completely fine

Gosh that's chilly! Most outdoor pools are nearer 28C! You must live somewhere very hardy!

megletthesecond · 30/05/2021 08:27

I swam in a lido at 27° last week, in the rain. I was doing brisk lengths and not in a wetsuit. It wasn't the sort of temp to just splash around in. How old is your DC?

aibutohavethisusername · 30/05/2021 08:27

The Lido I swim at has water temperature of around 24. I’ve swam when it was minus 6 outside!
