To think 19 is hot enough for a Lido swim?

19 today, when I'm taking DC. H is shocked and doesn't think it's okay, as it'll be too cold to be out in water at just 19.

But it's a sunny 19, not cloudy. And the session is only 45 mins.

AIBU? DC is only small to be fair Blush

19 will feel pretty cold. It very much depends on what age your DC is. Far too cold for a baby or toddler.

NotYourAverageDaisy · 30/05/2021 08:32

Okay, so it doesn't actually say what temp they heat the pool to but I can confirm it's heated!

DS is 3.5 and autistic, absolutely obsessed with swimming and water. He wouldn't complain if it was -0 I don't think Grin so it's me that has to use my judgement as there's just no way he'd announce he's cold when there's water around

What is a Lido swim?

A lido is an outside swimming pool, most pools in the UK are indoors.

Ponoka7 · 30/05/2021 08:34

My GC would be fine with that. They go naked at home, even on some winter days, though. Some children are fine with the cold. If they aren't, it could be quite miserable.

Bayleaf25 · 30/05/2021 08:35

Sounds like your DS will love it then and will be fine for 30-40 mins, just take warm clothes and hot chocolate for afterwards.

BerryPieandCustard · 30/05/2021 08:37

We went to a local countryside spot yesterday where you can swim/paddle in the stream/lake we arrived at 6pm so was getting cooler. My daughter was in the water for about 25 minutes. It was a bit chilly for my liking but she had a whale of a time.

LeafBeetle · 30/05/2021 08:38

Buy DC a cheap child's wetsuit and take him.

Confrontayshunme · 30/05/2021 08:40

We accidentally took our 4 and 9 year old in a sea pool which we thought would be warmer than the sea at Easter break. It was NOT (only about 10/12 degrees). However, there were loads of kids in wetsuits and we all survived after a hot chocolate.

MinesAPintOfTea · 30/05/2021 12:35

Take him, get him out for hot chocolate if he looks cold. No problem.

Nightbear · 30/05/2021 12:39

If he’s that obsessed with water have a look for a cheap child’s wetsuit if he’ll wear one.

Nightbear · 30/05/2021 12:40

Blush What LeafBeetle said.

VeganVeal · 30/05/2021 12:48

DH seems a dick, I'd LTB, that'll teach him

Onceuponatime1818 · 30/05/2021 12:50

My kids are currently in the sea, and go in there when the sea is 7degrees.

Roodicus21 · 30/05/2021 12:53

It's 20 degrees here and sunny and my dc are in the sea.

newnortherner111 · 30/05/2021 13:00

So how was it, OP?

Remaker · 30/05/2021 13:07

I’ve learned so much from this thread! I thought a lido was part of a natural body of water like a lake or river and was wondering how the hell you heat it! Had no idea it was an outdoor swimming pool. In Australia we have pools and indoor pools LOL.

Also you people are bloody hardy. Summing at 14 degrees, are you mad? We have a solar heated pool in our backyard and it’s set to 28 degrees even in summer. No way would we ever swim when it was 19. Our maximums next week will be 17-19 and it’s nearly winter. People will be wearing coats.

Sadly we just don't have the weather! We have one of those very large paddling pool ,s you can just about do a stroke or two in them ,Ds1 was in it all last summer,so probably same temperatures as your winter 🤣
JudgeJ · 30/05/2021 13:24

Moab in Utah, mid March, now that was cold but I am so stubborn that I stayed under until I felt warm but getting out was a shocker!

cocoloco987 · 30/05/2021 13:32

Outdoor swimming has massively taken off here - I've seen people coming out of the sea every day over winter on my way to work at 8am, even when there was snow on the ground. I imagine 19 will be just fine (although I wouldn't do it 😆)

NotYourAverageDaisy · 30/05/2021 16:04

We went. DS absolutely loved it.

Bit nippy getting out but the water was lovely. Blue skies and sun, just slight cold breeze but it was fine.

Not packed at all and quiet. Would go again at just 19/20!

Glad your DS loved it, thanks for letting us know.

Very surprised at the set of rules did not include no kissing/petting! Times have changed!!!!

CorvusPurpureus · 30/05/2021 17:46

I do all year round - not in U.K. & have a backyard pool. 9 degrees water temperature in February was a bit parky, to be fair.

It's now about 30 & too warm for lengths IMO. Nice for basking though.

Oh..I didn't book this weekend as thought it was only lane swimming. I love that pool...feels likes you've been on holiday when you go. Just over in Beds!
