And your age?

Me and DH thinking of trying for baby #2 soon.

We are both mid 20s and were very lucky to conceive on the first cycle with DS. Very easy pregnancy with no issues.

DH seems to think it will be as easy as last time but I'm so worried about experiencing secondary infertility - I know no one can tell the future so it's nothing we can really plan for!

Why would you think you’d have secondary infertility? If there’s no reason, I think you have to assume that it would happen right away and plan for that

00100001 · 28/05/2021 09:43

What difference does it make if I say 6 months or 3 years?

It's all so individual.

Maybe use the "infertility" guide as an idea. They say try for a year before going to GPs etc.

MyAnacondaMight · 28/05/2021 09:45

If you’re worried you could both go for a fertility test: have your follicles and hormone levels, and his sperm looked at. That would be far more meaningful and relevant than other people’s anecdata.

nokidshere · 28/05/2021 09:47

I started ttc when I was 22. I finally got pregnant 'naturally' at 39.

KingdomScrolls · 28/05/2021 09:49

Do you have any other hormonal symptoms of pcos etc? If not this seems a bit ridiculous why would you worry about secondary infertility when there are no indications of anything, you are young and you conceived your first very quickly? FWIW I have diagnosed fertility issues , a whole host of symptoms and conceived on my first cycle

JenIsAGem · 28/05/2021 09:51

This thread is only for curiosity purposes, we're both young and healthy and I'm not at a stage where I would go and get fertility testing done etc. It's just a general thread as I'm interested in other people's experiences! Smile

It's taken with a pinch of salt as everyone is totally different! Sorry if there was any confusion.

I wasn't looking for advice or anything like that, just a bit of fun and a place to share experiences of TTC Smile

We had very infrequent sex over less than a year (long story why, not relevant). So it was about 12 times we had sex over 9/10 months, and we were 40 and 45.

I imagine if we’d had regular sex it could’ve been just a few cycles. But who knows. I do know that the time we conceived we were shit faced on booze (Christmas).

MoorGirl · 28/05/2021 09:57

5 years, eventually after one round of IVF. No2 when DD was 9 months old, naturally. Go figure!

Pinkroseuk · 28/05/2021 09:57

Over 4 years ttc - told ivf the only way in the end - but due our first July conceived naturally. We're now 28 and 30.

Confusedandshaken · 28/05/2021 10:08

I was 30 when I first conceived, 33 with the second. First month of trying both times.

Outnumbered99 · 28/05/2021 10:09

First month of trying for all 3 of mine, in my twenties. I am aware how lucky i am

LadyCluck · 28/05/2021 10:11

First baby I was 33 - 7 months of trying
Second baby I was 37 - took 4 months

Enterthedragons · 28/05/2021 10:13

DC1 - 1 month, DC2 - 1 month, DC 3 - 3 months, DC4 - 1 (accidental) night! Chances are it’ll be straightforward. Don’t worry about it until you need to.

RosieGirl27 · 28/05/2021 10:13

1st DS, over a year of TTC. Second DS happy surprise when DS1 was 5 months old 🙄😂 breastfeeding isn’t contraception...

Enterthedragons · 28/05/2021 10:13

Oh and I was 32, 33, 35 and 37

KFleming · 28/05/2021 10:14

DD was conceived first month of trying when I was 26.
Now 29, and I’m just starting month 5 I think of TTC number 2. (Could be month 4 or month 6, not totally sure).

Whyhello · 28/05/2021 10:16

Late 20s now, had DC1 at 25 and DC2 at 27.

Had 2 miscarriages before DC1, both were conceived after 1 cycle. DC1 was conceived 2 cycles after the second miscarriage. DC2 wasn’t stringently planned in the same way but was conceived 12 months after DC1. We didn’t use protection but I was BFing which can have some bearing on fertility. I had a miscarriage when he was 10 months old as well.

It’s all subjective but I’d plan for it to happen the first or second cycle really.

littlepattilou · 28/05/2021 10:17

Six weeks.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/05/2021 10:20

5th finally worked

Wanted to be 32/33 was almost 44 when gave birth

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 28/05/2021 10:23

15 plus years and 5 miscarriages

QuizzlyBear · 28/05/2021 10:25

Took a year to conceive DS1. DS2 was a (happy) freak accident after a stomach bug!

Admittedly after the problems the first time I didn't think 'accidents' really happened anymore so I was a bit Shock

EmeraldShamrock · 28/05/2021 10:25

5 years, eventually after one round of IVF. No2 when DD was 9 months old, naturally. Go figure!
That is common, what a lovely surprise once the shock passed.

LeafBeetle · 28/05/2021 10:26

DC1 - 3 months at age 30
DC2 - 1 month at age 32
DC3 - 1 month at age 34

Hoowhoowho · 28/05/2021 10:29

Pregnancy 1- tried on and off seriously for 10 years got pregnant aged 33 and miscarried at 6 weeks
DC1- conceived cycle 3, serious (lethal?) chromosomal abnormality. Pregnant at 33, birth at 34. Died aged 3 months
DC2- conceived 1st cycle age 34 born aged 35 now 4
DC3- conceived first cycle aged 37 born aged 37 now 2

Somethingsnappy · 28/05/2021 10:32

I conceived on the first cycle for DC1, in my late thirties. DC2 and DC3 took about 6 and 5 months, but my cycles were not back to being regular yet at that point. I then conceived DC4 at the age of 43 as a complete surprise, the one time my contraception failed.
