Is there a weird bug going around ?!

For a week now I’ve been feeling out of sorts on and off, really tired, a bit spaced out, like I’m coming down with something but a cold doesn’t appear, feeling a bit sick then it goes. Just wondered if there’s any weird bugs going around?! I had my jab nearly two weeks ago and I felt odd a day or two after that then it went but then I started to feel like this later that week. My partner is also feeling the same and he had his vaccine 4-5 weeks ago which makes me think it isn’t jab related so must be a strange bug?! It’s annoying as I think I feel better then it comes back again!

People have always been ill

Actually figures show that many “bugs” have been reduced whilst we’ve had Covid, due to people not mixing and better hand washing, social distancing etc. The common cold and flu have had very low incidence 2020/21.

It’s actually good that people automatically think they may have Covid, rather than a “bug”, as it means they get tested.

beepbeepbonk · 28/05/2021 10:32

Yes. Double vaccinated.

Last night I went to bed really early, woke after an hour as I felt sick, I had the chills and had to sit in the bathroom for half an hour just in case. Went back to bed and then slept through my alarm.

Why would you get a COVID test? None of the symptoms you've described sound like COVID.

hedgehogger1 · 28/05/2021 10:36

I've felt a bit like this. But I think it might be low vit D because I've not been spending any time outside!

Somethingsnappy · 28/05/2021 10:37

The title of this thread made me laugh. I am just imagining someone who's been on a desert island for a couple of years, comes back to the real world and.... Is there a weird bug going round at the moment? Grin

Jahebejrjr · 28/05/2021 10:38

I have a headache and feel exhausted

Frogartist · 28/05/2021 10:42

It's not surprising that a lot of people feel unwell atm, we have just started mixing and spreading things again!

thesugarbumfairy · 28/05/2021 10:43

I've had a disgusting bug which is just starting to get a bit better but it started off as a fairly standard cold (streaming nose) and then changed to something hideous. I've had a throbbing foggy head and nausea since Saturday. I had one jab 6 weeks ago. All lateral flow tests negative but I have a PCR coming today. I have no temperature, no cough, no loss of taste (or appetite, even though I'm nauseous)
I pretty much never get ill to the point I can't do anything as I always power through, but this one has knocked me for six. I'm in Cambridgeshire.

andfinallylifeisgood · 28/05/2021 10:44

I'm in Scotland and have blocked nose, sore throat, temperature and aching bones. Also tired but can't sleep.

MinnieJackson · 28/05/2021 10:52

I've had a sore throat for weeks. I'm prone to tonsilitis and keep expecting to see spots but nothing, although one side is swollen Confused

Inmyownlittlecorner · 28/05/2021 10:53

I’m in central London and I’ve felt off all week. I feel foggy, head aches & a bit dizzy and totally exhausted. I put it down to a heavy period & end of half term exhaustion, but we have quite a few members of staff & children off with the same sort of symptoms.

KizzyKat91 · 28/05/2021 11:01

It could be hayfever! I've felt terrible for a few weeks - foggy head, swollen glands in neck, sore throat, extreme fatigue etc. Had negative covid tests and started taking various supplements. Nothing worked until I took an allergy tablet on a whim. Immediately started feeling better and after a few days of taking them, my energy is back and my throat and head no longer hurt.

Zoinksalot · 28/05/2021 11:27

For the last week had a sore throat that turned into what felt like full blown flu with a chesty cough and stuffed up sinuses. Did three tests (2 lateral as part of uni ones and 1 pcr as cough started and thought it was covid) all were negative.

Just seems to be something going about

Rainydays55 · 28/05/2021 14:50

Glad it’s not just me! Hope we all feel better soon!

I’m in the same area as you OP and have felt exhausted, permanent headache, brain fog and fever/shivering on and off. GP thinks long covid but maybe it’s a bug on top of that. My DC has been sneezing and my headache is a bit like sinus pain so perhaps a sort of cold?

EggysMom · 28/05/2021 17:08

Our son has had a weird 'bug' that sounds similar - he's autistic and nonverbal so cannot tell us what exactly he was feeling, so we have to detect by symptoms. Sleeping a bit more, most noticeably having a catnap mid afternoon if allowed; eating enough but eschewing some of his normal favourite snacks; slight temperature (high end of normal); just generally out of sorts and not his usual lively self. No outward signs of a cold, negative LFT. Obviously I checked the usual things (signs of infection, toothache etc). It took him about ten days to get back to normal behaviour.

SallyCinnabon · 28/05/2021 17:13

I have this OP. Had my jab about 2 weeks ago and have just felt constantly tired and drained. I also have an underlying headache too everyday which gets worse until my head gets really hot and I have to take a tablet in the eve.

Also feel nauseous sometimes and have brain fog too. Like I’m searching for the word, or I’ll say the wrong word, or even I’ll try putting the cereal bowl in the fridge. I just don’t feel with it.

DH has felt the same to a lesser extent (just knackered and headaches) he had the jab the same week as me.

SallyCinnabon · 28/05/2021 17:15

I’m SW England too OP

There's a stomach bug going round in our London borough. DS had a quarter of the class off with it yesterday and a couple more had to be sent home. Mostly D&V, shivers, tiredness.

User1110 · 28/05/2021 18:54

@AIMummy just out of interest, what borough are you in?

There is definitely a nasty stomach bug going around in my Borough, which I am trying to avoid!

AIMummy · 28/05/2021 18:58

User1110, I've PM'd you.

goshthatsawful · 28/05/2021 19:00

@PaperbackRider

This is an international forum. Are you actually asking if there is "a bug going around"? Like, where? The answer being, yes there are always illnesses circulating in every community, not that we know where yours is.
I always roll my eyes at these threads that ask if there’s ‘something going round’. Round WHERE?!
Tonkerbea · 28/05/2021 19:06

I was going to suggest hayfever too. Lots of people cutting grass now the sun is back out!

ChristmasFluff · 28/05/2021 19:32

Please can I urge anyone who has symptoms they feel could be jab related, to report them using the yellow card system?

yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

Let professionals decide if they end up being related to the jab - but without the reported info, they cannot know. The more data they have, the better

BogRollBOGOF · 28/05/2021 19:37

The hayfever season has been a bit haywire with the cold weather, and humidity. Some pollen types are delayed, and others getting stuck for longer.

I can feel sinuses and headaches coming on if I've been near hawthorn blossom for more than a couple of minutes... the same as every year!
