Going to a baby shower and need inspiration for a gift.

I am so indecisive at the moment!

I’m due in a few weeks and keep being given things we already have. The intention is lovely but so much will potentially be wasted or barely used.

I’d so much rather have vouchers, or as others have suggested practical things to make day to day life easier when she’s here (JustEat/Cook etc)

Tomy musical star which projects restful pictures onto the ceiling, it's ideal for checking on the baby in the night as it's like a Nightlight and lullaby combined. My son used it until he was about 5 and it just ceased up. So 5 years of use ! It was particularly good when I was weaning him off night feeds.

Our other best gifts were some John Lewis muslins which were wonderful quality and a crocheted blanket which was great for swaddling, a pram blanket and then just a favourite bed time blanket!

Baby clothes for the next size up or two. Almost everyone buys you newborn size clothes that your baby will outgrow in nanoseconds. A very thoughtful friend bought older sized baby clothes so my child had something to wear after their 1000+ newborn outfits were blink-and-you-miss-it outgrown.

A padded sleepsuit with arms/feet instead of swaddling or sleeping bags. I didnt use them right away, maybe from 3 months or just before but my DD slept great using it, also a jungle gym, nipple cream, cellular blankets and sloth fisher price linkimal were all great.

Baby clothes that actually fitted a newborn. Nearly everyone bought clothes in a bigger size thinking I'd get loads of newborn size but I didn't because they all had the same thought.

Somebody bought me a good quality thermometer which was so, so helpful. I've definitely got that on my list of things to buy for future baby showers.

Good quality muslin cloths - I really liked the Silent Night ones. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362525403009

The most helpful thing was clothes in bigger sizes. Everybody seemed to avoid buying 0-3 because they thought that everybody buys 0-3, so I ended up with no 0-3 and too much 3-6 that he didn't manage to get through. Good quality sleepsuits from Next were lovely and washed so well. I was so grateful of things like that in larger sizes.

I buy an Elmer elephant and the matching comfort blanket and first book

He is so lovely and bright.
I’ve added to the Elmer collection on later birthdays

Useful is the bath chair that is like a little deck chair

And soft towels with hoods

Tuppence and crumble star wrap for my January baby. So much easier than blanket wrangling

Giant Muslins (aden and anais and I’ve got some with pandas on from Amazon) aswell as small ones are the best.

Priya and peanut sensory cards

I got a bale of 20 white hand towels. My friends gave them and I popped one under dd when I changed her so she was cosy...by the time I got to my twins I was changing anywhere I could lol but I still have them and they re perfect 14 years later.
Plus they were so handy when kids were washing their hands as toddlers and so easy to wash and dry.
Love them

The Braun in ear thermometer.

We are in Scotland and got one in the baby box but that one was rubbish.
The Braun on has a smaller ear piece and has an age based traffic light system, so perfect for worried first time mums.

We use ours regularly three years on.

A box of useful medicines- calpol, ibuprofen, calpol plug in (for colds), nappy cream etc. Really useful!

giftswap2020 · 26/05/2021 19:22

Milestone cards and maybe wardrobe sizing separators, 0-3m/3-6/6-9/9-12 etc
