They look like something from that progtam that used to shame people for unhealthy diets and when theyve been dipped into are going to look a bloody mess. Why?.

Buffet without plates

PyjamaFan · 23/05/2021 21:03

That looks utterly vile.

So it's a buffet but with no plates or bowls? Weird.

Ponoka7 · 23/05/2021 21:05

It's an informal setting style. I'm not sure about the dip side, but the rest is practical.

OverByYer · 23/05/2021 21:06

That one you’ve linked looks hideous. I have seen some more stylish ones but I personally would prefer a proper buffet with plates and napkins thanks very much

RJnomore1 · 23/05/2021 21:07

Surely just a deconstructed buffet?

WilyKitWilyKat · 23/05/2021 21:07

I attended a post-wedding event that had one of these. It looked much better than that in the photo and was really quite impressive. However, this was in a small setting - maybe about 15 people.

purpledagger · 23/05/2021 21:07

I saw an American blogger have one of these a few years ago (didn't know it even had a name). I thought it looked lovely - lots of fresh fruit, breads and cold meats.

... but in these covid times, not so sure.

Sparklingbrook · 23/05/2021 21:08

The ones I have seen are a bit more healthy, but I think they must be really impractical and there would be lots of touching of food going on. And probably double dipping.

Hellcatspangle · 23/05/2021 21:09

I hate them, there are numerous Fb sellers selling graze boxes as well which are equally hideous. Orange slices nestling next to sandwiches etc. Grim.

SpamIAm · 23/05/2021 21:10

They normally look amazing and they're generally savoury - that's not a very representative example.

NuffSaidSam · 23/05/2021 21:10

It's just a buffet without plates! Looks absolutely revolting.

Thesearmsofmine · 23/05/2021 21:10

They can look lovely but I just don’t like the idea of all the foods touching. I’m a bit funny about that kind of thing anyway so having it on a big scale puts me right off.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 23/05/2021 21:11

FFS what on earth is the problem with just having some plates!

That looks disgusting to me. I am just imagining it all getting mushed into a big mess. I have no desire at all to eat my food straight off the table. It seems unhygienic and uncivilised to me.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 23/05/2021 21:11

Fine if it’s a small thing for me and DH but I wouldn’t want to share it at a big function for the same reasons others have stated. I don’t like buffets anyway, too much mauling and double dipping

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 21:11

Looks disgusting !

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/05/2021 21:11

It looks nauseating.

LawnFever · 23/05/2021 21:11

Agreed, it just looks soggy to me, and I normally love a good buffet
NuffSaidSam · 23/05/2021 21:12

Presumably it's for the same people who like to drink out of jam jars and eat soup out of a shoe? The anti-plate brigade.

katienana · 23/05/2021 21:14

I made a nacho table last year at the dc request. I covered the table with foil then tipped on the nachos and toppings. They thought it was great!
I dont like how there are savoury and sweet things all touching, it's not right!

lceniWarrior · 23/05/2021 21:14

I remember watching my nephews stick sausages into a running chocolate fountain at a buffet! Imagine if I hadn't seen!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/05/2021 21:15

Yeah. Just put it on trays

KeyWorker · 23/05/2021 21:16

I think there is too much going on in the example you’ve posted, I’ve seen them look good when it’s more simple, sliced meats, some cheese, pork pie ect. Those look like a whole buffet on a table top.

Ostara212 · 23/05/2021 21:17

I hate buffets normally but this is mega eeewww.

Voomster953 · 23/05/2021 21:18

The jam next to the warm and congealed cut Scotch eggs is giving me the heebiejeebies.

lceniWarrior · 23/05/2021 21:18

As a vegatarian it would worry me.
