Why the fuck am I having periods

PastaLaVistaBBY · 23/05/2021 19:04

I was assured, I was PROMISED, by the internet that once my baby was born if I breastfed I would get a year or more of no periods. So why the fuck did mine return after TEN FUCKING WEEKS, and why do they have the sheer audacity to be so heavy and clotty and painful?

Thanks body, you irredeemable arsehole.

That wasn’t the case for me, its certainly not true for everyone, I’ve had 4 children and despite ebf (none of them ever had a drop of formula) no dummies, cosleeping, mine returned back to normal after 8 weeks each time. Bf all 4 till at least 2 and my periods never stopped.

Nion · 23/05/2021 19:21

Same. Devastated. Clearly wasn't bf correctly Hmm. In fact, went on a beach trip catching the last of the summer sun, white shorts and all. Full blown teenager nightmare come true.
It happens.

We are clearly part of some miserable, unlucky club!

Yep everywhere I read said they stopped as well, mine were back to being regularly monthly periods straight away, I never lost weight whilst breastfeeding either, so that was another myth as far as I’m concerned!

Somethingsnappy · 23/05/2021 19:24

Has your baby been feeding much through the night?

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 23/05/2021 19:25

Same! 5 weeks later shopping :( embarrassingly had to go straight home.

optimistic40 · 23/05/2021 19:26

Yeah, breastfed both of mine and periods back 3-4 months anyway

Marcipex · 23/05/2021 19:27

Same, I can’t remember exactly but about 3 months.

Usernamesarenotmyforte · 23/05/2021 19:28

Exactly the same. I felt cruelly cheated out of a promised reward if I’m honest.

beryltheperilrocks · 23/05/2021 19:28

mine came back after 5 months ebf. also very heavy and clotty. ....it turned out I had developed a fibroid. .possibly due due to increased oestrogen during pregnancy. ...so please don't suffer if it doesn't get better..took me years to sort out.

modgepodge · 23/05/2021 19:28

Can you go on contraception which will control/stop them? My daughter is 2 and I haven’t had a period since I got pregnant as the mini pill stops them completely. I’m dreading TTC again as I don’t want periods back!!!

ShowOfHands · 23/05/2021 19:31

Me too. I was bfing day and night, at least every 2hrs with no formula, no dummies, nothing and back they came at 10 weeks.

Then I had DS and he had massive gaps between feeds and I had no period for 12 months. Made feck all sense.

Happycat1212 · 23/05/2021 19:32

Mine was feeding every 2 hours including throughout the night so had nothing to do with that for me. Mine only started sleeping through and not needing a feed at 2!

LuaDipa · 23/05/2021 19:33

12 weeks for me. Was gutted. Sorry op.Flowers

RandomMess · 23/05/2021 19:34

Bad news with each one mine returned sooner. Literally lochia stopped then period returned 😭

Utterly crap.

Anonymouslyposting · 23/05/2021 19:37

Mine reappeared after about 12 weeks, then stopped for several months, then back, then gone again. I’m not expecting it to stabilise until I reduce feeding (though who knows!)

Just because you’ve had it once doesn’t mean it’s back for good - you may have many period free months ahead!

Northernsoullover · 23/05/2021 19:37

6 weeks for me. Balls.

DoingItMyself · 23/05/2021 19:39

Breastfeeding on demand, 24/7?

Booboobadoo · 23/05/2021 19:40

Same and same! And I BF round the clock. For years. Twasn't fair.
PastaLaVistaBBY · 23/05/2021 19:41

@beryltheperilrocks goodness, hadn’t considered that! Thanks for the heads up, will definitely bear it in mind.

I had a coil inserted when my baby was born but it slipped and was hugely uncomfortable so I had it removed. I need to go back on the pill really but it’s such a rigmarole finding one that suits me.

My baby doesn’t feed much at night any more - usually just one night feed, and 5 or 6 during the day. But when my periods first came back he was still having 2 or 3 feeds a night.

Wait, what?

Doctors don't say this, do they...do they? They ought to be sued if so!

PastaLaVistaBBY · 23/05/2021 19:42

But yes, fed on demand 24/7!

OP posts:
Ethelswith · 23/05/2021 19:42

Periods returned at 6 weeks, despite EBF round the clock.

I felt distinctly cheated!

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/05/2021 19:59

What a bloody bummer 😡😡😡

I feel for you - in 51 and mine have re-started after 2 years. Such a pain.

Menopause / or Did your periods change after Covid vaccine? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4251363-menopause-or-did-your-periods-change-after-covid-vaccine

irresistibleoverwhelm · 23/05/2021 20:03

Despite EBF round the clock mine came back 4 months to the day after DD was born. It was like someone had turned a tap on for several days - gushing, clots, flooding, the whole lot. I was gutted.

I read somewhere that it's actually a hormone produced by nipple stimulation that keeps periods at bay during BF. Would make sense as DD was like an industrial Hoover and could finish a whole feed in under five minutes, so feeds were always very short.
