Why the fuck am I having periods

PastaLaVistaBBY · 23/05/2021 19:04

I was assured, I was PROMISED, by the internet that once my baby was born if I breastfed I would get a year or more of no periods. So why the fuck did mine return after TEN FUCKING WEEKS, and why do they have the sheer audacity to be so heavy and clotty and painful?

Thanks body, you irredeemable arsehole.

Ah, that could be it - my son is also an efficient feeder, he doesn’t take long at all.

They talk a load of old shite about breastfeeding. It’s very disappointing when your periods start back after 6 weeks, you don’t lose that extra 14lbs, you don’t get a flat stomach, and worst of all, that your child doesn’t turn out to be a genius with the immune system of a vulture.

I’m glad I did it though - mostly because it was cheap and easy for me. But I think think that, generally, the benefits are wildly overstated.

WhyMeLord · 23/05/2021 20:24

5 weeks for me and I ebf DD until she was 6 months. I went to the dr because I was so worried that there was something bad happening and was very embarrassed to be told I was having a period. I felt so conned!!

StopSayingDueDiligence · 23/05/2021 20:27

I had the same with my first baby.

My mum had my little brother, breast fed him for two years and didn't have a period that whole time.

So I was NOT happy that I bled for 6 weeks after he was born, had 4 weeks off and bang, 10 weeks postnatal and I have my first period.
Very disappointing.

With my subsequent children, my periods at least had the good grace to wait until they had started weaning into food before they graced me with this narly presence.

I couldn’t agree more!
3scape · 23/05/2021 20:28

Yup. Around 10/ 12 week mark for me after each child.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 23/05/2021 20:33

Yes mine came back at about 8 weeks. Baby EBF and with me constantly. Wouldn't even take expressed milk.

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 23/05/2021 20:35

One of mine was over a year and a half, the next about 12 weeks, another bottle fed and 4 months.
Felt like a lottery

DulseSeaweed · 23/05/2021 20:38

Mine came back really soon. And I was EBFing a fat 99th centile baby all day and ALL night. He's 14 months, still BF him twice a night and pregnant again. Can't wait for my body to be mine again.

I agree. I love that it’s free and extremely convenient, but I absolutely have not lost weight (if anything I’ve gained because I’m bloody starving all the time), and it certainly didn’t save me from periods.

Obviously my child does happen to be the cleverest, most beautiful and most advanced baby ever set upon this earth Grin but I suspect I might recognise these qualities in him even if I didn’t breastfeed...

I had one period in 4 years!!! Had my first and breast fed for over a year, then I had a period, then I fell pregnant again and had no period until I stopped breastfeeding after a year!!

Notashandyta · 23/05/2021 20:51

And me. I has three under three at one point, despite bf them all. Periods came back quicker each bloody time

katnyps · 23/05/2021 20:54

Honestly I am the same and want to know who ARE all these women who don't get periods for months and months!? It's they who seem like the minority based on people I know! Is it those darned phthalates at work again?

Happycat1212 · 23/05/2021 20:56

Tbf the women I know didn’t get periods whilst bf, I felt very much alone with mine returning straight away and didn’t get why mine did, I do think I’m just one of the unlucky ones! So it’s nice to hear it wasn’t just me.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 23/05/2021 20:57

Mine came back in 4 weeks.

newtb · 23/05/2021 20:58

Mine were clotty from about 14. After dd was born at my 6 week check the GP asked me if I was still bleeding/had my periods restarted. Think I had 1-2 days spotting in between.

newtb · 23/05/2021 20:59

Sorry dd was ebf, too.

InglouriousBasterd · 23/05/2021 21:01

Mine restarted after THREE bloody weeks, and I had the embarrassment of going to the doctor fully convinced it was lochia and I had an infection. He mansplained periods to me Blush

InglouriousBasterd · 23/05/2021 21:02

Oh also fully breastfed at that point! I was furious!

crispywaffle · 23/05/2021 21:08

DS1 period arrived week 12. DS2 period arrived week 10. And I bled for 6 weeks after each of them.

Both times I had my first period then as PP says got myself back on the mini pill (cerazette) and didn't have a period again. So since May 2016 I've had two periods.

Vallmo47 · 23/05/2021 21:11

3 weeks here. Breastfed for 2 years. Bastard right?!

NaToth · 23/05/2021 21:18

EBF both times. Periods back at 4 weeks both times. In an attempt to help, the GP put me on the mini pill, so then I bled constantly for three months. Aaaargh!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/05/2021 21:18

Mine came back 4 weeks after the post natal bleeding stopped. EBF.

When DC was 6 months old DM mentioned that at some point soon my periods would return. Her face when I said they hadn’t ever really gone away.

Campervanna · 23/05/2021 21:19

My dm bfed my dbro for 10 months as apparently bfeeding works as a contraceptive! My dsis was born 13 months later! That really worked.Hmm

PastaLaVistaBBY · 23/05/2021 22:05

I was the same re lochia clearing up just in time for periods to start Hmm feels like my body is making up for all the lost opportunities while I was actually pregnant!
