Is three bottles of wine a week too much?

My husband, not me. Since I've been pregnant, so abstaining from drink altogether, I've been more aware of his drinking. It's by no means a problem judging by his behaviour but I just wondered if this is (obviously a bit unhealthy) but normal for some. It's spread out over the week so he doesn't binge at weekends.

No as I enjoy my wine every evening, I'm healthy and not overweight so dont care how many calories, happiness is more important!

PurpleDaisies · 23/05/2021 21:34

You’re not bothered you could be damaging your liver? Unhealthy alcohol consumption often doesn’t cause symptoms until it’s advanced.

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 21:36

Not at all as 1 glass a night is hardly alcoholism!!!

cadburyegg · 23/05/2021 21:37

It’s too much imo

I didn’t say you were an alcoholic. Your liver is dealing with the units you’re putting in and you’re consistently drinking 50% more than you should every week regardless of how many glasses you say that is. That’s not a good idea.

People don’t seem to know what the recommended limits are. 3 bottles a week is double (or more depending on the strength of the wine).

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 21:45

I don't drink 3 bottles a week? I buy 2 and they last all week. Lots of people have a glass of wine with dinner most evenings. I'm in limits and am perfectly healthy so bog off

PurpleDaisies · 23/05/2021 21:50

Two bottles is 50% more than a week’s worth of alcohol units. It isn’t healthy. Kid yourself that it is but it isn’t.

The op’s partner is drinking three which I why I mentioned that.

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 21:51

No it's not, not sure where you are getting this information from and why you.are hounding me personally.

PurpleDaisies · 23/05/2021 21:54

One bottle of wine: 10 units.
Two bottles of wine: 20 units.

Recommended units per week: 14

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 21:57

Many friends I know also have 2 or more bottles a week. So you are miss perfect are you? Not interested in your statistics love.

TheKeatingFive · 23/05/2021 21:58

I couldn’t get too worked up about 6 more units a week than the rather conservative guidelines allow.

Most people don’t live optimally ‘healthy’ lives all of the time. If diet, weight and exercise levels are broadly good I wouldn’t be losing any sleep over 2 bottles of wine a week.

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 21:59

Thank you Keating 5 xxx

Ikeameatballs · 23/05/2021 22:01

I’d be a wreck if I drank that much. It would really disrupt my sleep and eating patterns, I’d gain weight and my skin would look shit.

I do like alcohol; a nice G&T, a glass of Prosecco or, like today, a delicious bottle of wine shared with DP. But, I think it’s very easy to drink too much and have a creeping impact on your health.

zekeandcamille · 23/05/2021 22:05

Hmm nah it's less than half a bottle of wine a night. Wouldn't worry me in the slightest. I was up to 2 bottles of wine a night a few years ago, now that was a problem.

FlyNow · 23/05/2021 22:05

Hmm, not sure about this. Can he keep drinking like this without experiencing any specific problems? Yes, probably. But would it be healthier to cut down? Definitely yes.

Coldwine75 · 23/05/2021 22:07

Just popped off to pour a glass, cheers all !

ohnoohnoohnononononoo · 23/05/2021 22:08

Yes. I was drinking 2 a week and have recently quit completely.

Baptism of fire this weekend with a pub lunch and boozy child's birthday party but I made it

Sugarbellaella · 23/05/2021 22:08

It’s completely normal - less than half a bottle a night

Alcohol is cancerous and has severe affects on the heart and liver. Just because it's legal, doesn't make it ok
userxx · 23/05/2021 22:13

Not in my world.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 23/05/2021 22:13

I might drink 30 units in a week when I'm on holiday, but not in a normal working week. DH has a similar amount to me.

I don't think having that amount, week in week out, is healthy. Does he ever have a few days off?

notanothertakeaway · 23/05/2021 22:14

I probably drink 3 bottles per week. It is too much. I found a questionnaire online where you post your weekly consumption, and was surprised to see that it's more than 92% of the population drink

TheKeatingFive · 23/05/2021 22:14

Alcohol is cancerous

Lots of things are. People don’t tend to get so worked up about them, funny enough.

severe affects on the heart and liver

In these quantities ‘severe’ is seriously overstating it. But equally, lots of things do also. Significant numbers of people eat terrible diets putting far more pressure on their hearts than the quantities of wine being discussed on here.
