Or bother entering obviously.

It’s a humiliation and everyone hates us so we hardly get any votes. None this year due to Brexit and the Covid vaccine probably.

Poor James Sad. He certainly didn’t deserve NIL points!

@Morgoth

Exactly. People are acting like we are putting forward Led Zeppelin each year and still getting zero points. Even our terrible songs are worse than the most terrible songs of other countries. The songs we put forward don’t even do well on our own top 40 charts with our own natives.

Oh come OFF it. As a pp said, even if we put Ed Sheeran, Adele, or Paul McCartney up there, they'd still give us fuckall points. It's purely political, and it's pathetic.

We left the EU, and we have vaccinated tens of millions more citizens than them, with the covid vaccine. They need to deal with it and get over it, and stop being so mean and petty towards us.

Oh and Amanda Holden...in the old days it was Katie Boyle or Angela Rippon. Now we have Amanda 'please look at me' Holden. Who was followed by a 10 year old kid from Greece speaking perfect English. Talk about out of the mouths of babes (and I mean the kid, not plastic Amanda).
Katie Boyle and her flawless French !

Throwing a tantrum and threatening to take your ball and go home because you didn't win is exactly the reason so many other countries hate the UK.

It's Eurovision. It's supposed to be a sparkly, camp as tits, silly joyous opportunity for the countries of Europe to come together.

The UK's behaviour is the equivalent of someone turning up to a party empty-handed, sitting in a corner with a face like a slapped arse refusing to speak to anyone talking about how much the party sucks, then complaining about not having any friends.

dreamingbohemian · 23/05/2021 12:21

@Gucci1961

I stopped watching it when half of the countries had 'stan' on the end of them.

on a separate note, what the hell has happened to Graham Norton's accent!?? He sounds neither English, nor Irish. I also lived in the UK for 14 years so I know that your accent changes over time but he sounds weird now.

Lol

Name ONE Eurovision country that ends with -stan

I'll wait

Changechangychange · 23/05/2021 12:22

If we are that bad, why do SO many people from other countries want to come here?

I’m not sure our finance sector, healthcare system, or other industries that employ a lot of EU migrants, have any bearing in our Eurovision vote Confused

If we sent Adele with something like Skyfall, and a decent stage show, we’d win. We send some bloke who’d struggle to get a pub gig, or a Butlins variety ensemble, set them against Lordi and Tatu, and wonder why they get nil points?

TableNiner · 23/05/2021 12:22

We’ll never win the contest again, certainly not in my lifetime. Our songs are no better or worse than most, we don’t deserve such consistently low scores in relation to other songs/countries. The tedious thing is this idea that somehow we can win. I’d support exiting Eurovision altogether but agree we should send joke acts if we are going to compete,

woofgoesthecat · 23/05/2021 12:28

The UK look like they don’t even want to be there, and then you complain when you don’t get any votes. You probably wouldn’t even want to listen to your own entry if it was on the radio, so why would we want to. Where I’m from we are actually proud of who we are sending to Eurovision, and we like the song. And we usually do pretty well. Blame it on brexit and the vaccine if it makes you feel better, it’s got nothing to do with it.

LOL. No WAY would we win, even with Adele singing one of her great songs. You're deluded if you think that.

You do realise our terrible performances and final scores at Eurovision have been happening WAY before Brexit was even a thing. We haven’t put forward half-decent songs for a few years now. And there’s been the odd occasion where we have come in the top 10 when the song has been okayish.

If it’s all political and our songs are phenomenal and Europe are doing this for 100% “political or petty” reasons as you state then why aren’t our songs No1 on our own charts? Why do our own U.K. citizens not like our own songs we put forward either? Most years they barely break the top 50 and if they do, plummet after a week or so. How can you blame the rest of Europe for that?!

TurquoiseDragon · 23/05/2021 12:31

We got nil points because of a shit song, bad staging and a bloke who was off key at times.

We also don't promote our song in Europe ahead of the contest. Most of the other countries do this, so the songs are familiar to them when voting time comes around.

So, we need a really good song. We have the talent in this country, why are we so bland and boring? I don't know who at the BBC is picking the song, but it needs to be someone who really, really knows their stuff in the music industry.

Then we need decent performers, and to promote the fuck out of the song in plenty of time.

Not everyone hates us. A good song will get votes. We need to stop acting like the victim, and do something.

After all, Israel got votes, and right now they are getting a lot of hate politically.

woofgoesthecat · 23/05/2021 12:32

Even my UK husband thought the UK entry was weird (but not weid enough to be good), but he was very proud of the entry of the country we’re in, and thought he did his best.

CounsellorTroi · 23/05/2021 12:32

If we sent Adele with something like Skyfall, and a decent stage show, we’d win.

Or Robbie Williams even. I’m sure Gary Barlow could write a decent song.

Really? Could you name at least one please?

You know, since it was the reason you stopped watching it.

Melassa · 23/05/2021 12:33
@TableFlowerss

I can’t believe people watch it. It’s the biggest pile of shite and completely politically motivated. All the poorer EU countries voting for the richer EU countries.... even when their songs a crap.

The vast majority of songs are absolutely crap from all countries. I know it’s just a bit of fun in reality but it’s also another Britain bashing opportunity. Even if we had the best song, we’d still not win because we left them!

100% THIS! ^ As I said, they're all jealous and bitter. (well most of them!) The countries who aren't jealous and bitter, are a bit envious, and curious to know how THEY can also leave the hideous, controlling, manipulative European Union!!! Grin
I want to know what mushrooms you’re eating to come out with such a load of tripe! That can’t have been the result of a logical, reasoned thought process.

No one is jealous, the U.K. song was beyond crap. You need to understand the no one except for the Brits gives a flying fuck about Brexit so there is no bitterness. The only bitterness seems to be coming out of the UK from the very people who “won”. Constantly blaming others for your own shortcomings is not a good look and is generally viewed as being a sign of a sad loser.

Lordamighty · 23/05/2021 12:34

No UK artist with any credibility would agree to enter Eurovision 🤣

Then how come if the songs are so brilliant, they do quite badly in the UK's own charts? Who are you going to blame for that?

chesirecat99 · 23/05/2021 12:39

@TellySavalashairbrush

We definitely need to bow out. £500k is £49000 too much for us to contribute to this political farce. Never been the same since Terry Wogan stopped hosting it anyway.
£500k is pretty good value for several hours of prime time programming. That would get you 1 episode of a prime time drama like Call the Midwife, half an hour of a period drama or 2 and a bit documentaries like Panoramas... or several hundred daytime quiz shows.

If you divide the cost per viewer, it's less than 2p per hour per viewer, whereas something like a Dispatches is over £1k per viewer.

BigWoollyJumpers · 23/05/2021 12:42

Our song was not memorable, not sung well, not performed by someone gay, or wearing leather, or female, didn't have any interesting staging, no clever lighting, was not camp, or sparkly, or whimsical. We are never going to win if we keep putting up straight blokes who look like they've just come out of the pub.

Wannakisstheteacher · 23/05/2021 12:43

If we want more points we need to enter someone who can sing in key. You can’t be both unpopular and crap.

We also gave points to Lithuania which wasn’t based on the quality of that entry - so it’s super hypocritical to complain that other countries are voting for the best song but on who they like.

Vooga · 23/05/2021 12:44

Our song was shit. Shockingly shit. Some fat sopranos wannabe with the dullest song I've ever heard compared to rock bands and scantily clad dancing women and super camp pop songs. It deserved nil points.

FatCatThinCat · 23/05/2021 12:44

And I bet they never cried 'politics' when Ireland gave the UK high points.

I don't think they even notice.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 23/05/2021 12:45

No UK artist with any credibility would agree to enter Eurovision 🤣

I wonder if they've even been asked.
The issue is the UK thinks is so much better and above it all . Which means they don't take it seriously enough to even attempt a great performance/artist. However, they also don't have the balls to go all out on funny/memorable /so bad it's good performances. They stick to middle of the road and average most years.

Average, when you are against 25 (at least) countries will never get you good points.

Thank you PP. This brought a smile to my face.
