Sometimes it doesn't bother me, i suspect its because i look older and worse 😂🙈 im not a selfie queen, i like to take one when ive had my hair done, so about once a month,
I like some of the photos ive took but i keep thinking how do i justify posting this, rather than just wanting to upload a pic of myself, i know im massively over thinking this, has anyone felt this way regarding Instagram, selfies, Facebook etc??

Am I being unreasonable?

Go on post your selfie here. Would love to see you Smile But please for the love of God DO NOT ask "How old am I?" Grin

I take frequent selfies but am not on social media. I tend to change my WhatsApp profile.picture with a nice looking selfie now and then. My friends are always complimentary.

Absolutely! I'm the same. I think it must be generational.

I can only manage to post a selfie shot if there's another purpose - I'm at something, kids, something in the background.

I see the 'young wans' doing it & it's a whole style & technique, isn't it?

I've had a few years off SM but I did try to go back to fb to see if I had really missed out.
Logged in, when to post a selfie and felt like an absolute twat.
Once you've had time away it's so clear to see how self indulgent and stupid the whole thing is!
I immediately came back off and haven't looked back since.
Nobody really cares what you look like except you, and those who do care can see you in all your beautiful glory in the real world!

YANBU to feel slightly twatty op!
However, if you want to post it, just go ahead and do so!

I really don’t see the point in posting selfies to social media, they always look absolutely ridiculous. Especially when accompanied by some stupid bunny ears or a totally misleading filter

No. I don't post selfies very often but if I'm dressed up for an event or in fancy dress or something and I like the pic and feel like sharing it, I will. I've always had positive responses. Anyone who has a moral objection to it is free to scroll on by and indeed they seem to.

I have a friend who is a professional dancer and does lots of photoshoots with various photographers in costume. She shares them, or the photographers do, and I enjoy seeing them.

The only pic of myself on SM is my profile pic. It's a nice one I think but it was taken by someone else this time. Although I have occasionally taken one myself. Usually ones I took to send to someone for a reason (new hairstyle or something) and just liked. I don't feel twatty about that.
Have also been known to upload pics that include me ie Christmas or something but general selfies - no. But I dont judge those that do and probably wouldn't rule it out.
Do what you like. Smile

Posting a random selfie is vain and fishing for compliments IMO.

I find selfies wanky to be honest. My sister is an instagrammer/influencer with a fairly large following. I cringe everything I see them. Everyone posts The 🔥 🔥 emojis in response.

God no never!!! I'm not a back end of a bus, but it just strikes me as self absorbed lunacy

God knows why people post selfie's - or even take selfies.
Don't you know what you look like already?
Do you think everybody wants your picture?

Bizarre

I agree and that’s why I never post them - however wanky or not I do like looking at other people’s as long as they aren’t incessant!

Last time I did a bit of a selfie was from a boat and it was mostly the view looking towards Africa. That was 2.5 years ago. DH took a lovely pic of me on that holiday. No one has seen it but us.

I’m in my very late 40’s and have never taken a selfie. I hate how I look in photos. I don’t have any of me and the kids except for when they were born.

ShirleyPhallus · 14/05/2021 19:45

So I do think they’re wanky, but I also don’t want to turn it in to a competitive “anyone who has a photo of themselves ever is a self absorbed narcissist. The last photo taken of me was the day I was born and I’ve never been in one since”

Cos photos of people / in interesting places / with friends and family are lovely and I’d much rather see that on my news feed

I don't think it is wanky or pointless or fishing for compliments. It's no different from posting a photo of anything or anyone else or a photo that someone else has taken of you.

I have a few selfies, both on my fb wall and printed and put in our family album because otherwise there would be no photos of me at all and that would be a great shame Wink. I don't add filters or do anything to them other than what I do for any other portrait I take and I pose myself in the same way as I pose any other person in front of my lens.

Photography is my hobby btw, but I don't think that makes any difference.

So what if it is? Which is the worst moral failing: wanting people who have opted to follow your content to say that you look nice, or being spiteful about it?

You can post whatever you like & don't have to justify it to anyone. Let's be honest though there is only 1 reason to post a selfish & that is to get compliments ' omg hun, stunning 😍!. If that's what floats yet boat go for it. I've never taken a selfie let alone posted one

WHY? Hmm
