To think men who come on to you via online scrabble apps are pathetic?

Is nowhere safe? Just join a dating site if that is what you're after. It's so grim and actually reminded me that men used to send lechy messages when I used to play online cribbage on yahoo games as a teenager (yes I was a very cool teenager).

God I hate men.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 14/05/2021 07:15

YES! I've started playing Scrabble and the men are unreal. I don't even respond to anyone. I just really wonder 'is this really a good way to meet people'😱 Gross idiots.

cece · 14/05/2021 07:15

Yes!!!!!!

I have stopped playing against men on there now

bunnytheegghunter · 14/05/2021 07:17

I stopped playing it did my head in!

SundayBloodySunday · 14/05/2021 07:17

I have played this for years and have never experienced this.

MargateSands · 14/05/2021 07:18

Really?? How do you come on to people via a Scrabble app?!

StillMedusa · 14/05/2021 07:19

Agreed! I play and now anad again respond to 'great game..play again?' But last week a 'hi where are you from' turned into 'can I send you a pic'..and it wasn't his pet cat....

I pointed out this was Words2 not Tinder and resigned the game!

Icancelledthecheque · 14/05/2021 07:21

I’m sorry but this made me Grin

Men actually hit on you in online scrabble?!

I have a small business and I’ve genuinely had to ban a number of blokes for messaging women on my business posts.

God they’re odd creatures.

PicsInRed · 14/05/2021 07:22

My first thought was YANBU, but isnt this exsctly what women are advised to do IRL? Join running, cycling, hill walking, male dominated hobby groups etc which have more men, so they can look for dates? Perhaps there are married men out there telling their single friends "join an online hobby group that has lots of women - oooh, scrabble would be a great one! Don't worry, John, you'll meet someone, you're an absolute catch!". Wink

FatOaf · 14/05/2021 07:23

It's creepy (13 points) and pervy (13 points). Sadly, lechy isn't in the Scrabble dictionary, and other letters would have to fall in exactly the right place to allow lecherous (14 points plus probable bonuses).

In answer to your question: yes, obviously they're pathetic (15 points).

Bagelsandbrie · 14/05/2021 07:27

Well maybe it’s like the modern equivalent of joining a group you’re interested in in the hope of meeting someone? I mean sure pervy messages and offers of dick pics are not okay but a little flirt...? Who cares. Just block them if it bothers you.

Sometimes I wonder how anyone is supposed to meet anyone these days without offending someone.

CottonPyjamas · 14/05/2021 07:28

I stopped playing. After having ignored comments from a couple of men (or telling them they were being inappropriate), I started getting constant messages and 'nudges' from the married man who lives over the road from me.

I think the idea is to find a hobby where you can make friends with men with the possibility of it turning into something more! These men on the internet tend to jump straight into sexual messages, and I don't think many women would be sending similar ones to strangers on their first cycling club meetup!

I don’t think anyone is advocating women send men ‘lechy messages’ or pictures of their genitals while playing online Scrabble as a method of meeting The One.

And if John really thinks a bottomless photo of John Junior is the way to entice a woman who is busily thinking how to let the triple word score with xanthophyll, he should probably just stop interacting with the world for a while and reconsider.

MishMashMummy · 14/05/2021 07:35

YES!

I remember saying to my husband how weird it was that people messaged you on these apps and he was like ‘that has literally never happened to me’. It’s just women who get the delights of lonely, middle aged blokes thinking you’ll be flattered beyond measure by a message saying ‘hi cutie’ on a game of online scrabble

ConfusedAdultFemale · 14/05/2021 07:35

I stopped playing words with friends etc because of this Sad got so sick of games starting, the other person sending lewd messages and refusing to play. Always loved scrabble but have no one to play with in rl!

KikiniBamalam · 14/05/2021 07:37

I blocked the message function.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 14/05/2021 07:38

@PicsInRed you win. I don’t even need to play scrabble with you to know you win Grin

Fatladyslim · 14/05/2021 07:39

I get it in Yahtzee, its so bizarre!

Hellohah · 14/05/2021 07:43

I have quite a high threshold for sleaze, but yes... Online scrabble sleazing should be a crime.
I'm glad it's not only me, fucking weirdos

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 14/05/2021 07:43

Could you make your player name a male one? I’ve not played this app so I’m not sure how it works but it there a way to play with a more male profile?

UnFringed · 14/05/2021 07:45

Yep I had this, constantly, I quit

TheCrowening · 14/05/2021 07:50

I stopped playing Words With Friends because of this. It was relentless. Mostly chaps who are on the hunt for someone to scam, I think.

InconvenientPeg · 14/05/2021 07:50

My user name is now inconvenientpegNoChat because I got so sick of men trying to do sexy chat 🙄 and they were invariably absolutely awful at Scrabble, which just added insult to injury!

ConfusedAdultFemale · 14/05/2021 07:50

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken so we should have to disguise ourselves as men? I’d rather not play than pretend to be a man.

@Fatladyslim another one I stopped playing! I did find a backgammon game that didn’t have any chat function at all though, I stick to playing that now Grin
