to not want to wear white on my wedding day?

Did anyone wear a different colour?
I'm only getting married in a registry office with both sets of parents as guests, nothing exciting. I don't really like white dresses 🤣 or traditions! But I do feel pressure to wear a nice white dress (even if only simple and not a traditional wedding dress!)

What sorts of colours are you into?
Blush pink would be lovely

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/05/2021 16:56

Wear whatever you like!

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 10/05/2021 16:57

What about gold? Very bridal!

Wolfiefan · 10/05/2021 16:57

Wear whatever you like. Your outfit should reflect you!

SionnachRua · 10/05/2021 16:58

Wear what you like!

Personally white makes me look sickly so it's a no go for me too.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/05/2021 16:59

Who do you feel pressure from, your DParents, DP, society? All of whom are irrelevant in your choice of clothing on any day, let alone your wedding. Find something you love, regardless of colour and have a lovely day.

RandomMess · 10/05/2021 16:59

I had a church wedding and didn't wear white as it's not really my colour!

Wear something that you feel fantastic and happy in so you have a radiant glow.

BikeRunSki · 10/05/2021 16:59

I didn’t, register office wedding, but lots of guests. My sister did wear white to my wedding though, which was weird and confused people! I am used to her making herself the centre on attention though 🤷‍♀️

Plenty of people do not marry in white, especially for a non-traditional, civil wedding.

Hadjab · 10/05/2021 17:00

Who is pressuring you? Most bridal sites advocate wearing whatever you like, so go for it! I wore gold, as I hate white wedding dresses.

parietal · 10/05/2021 17:01

I wore pale blue. another friend had a fabulous dark brown dress.

so wear what you like - something that suits your colouring

PragmaticWench · 10/05/2021 17:02

I didn't wear white. I tried a few traditional bridal dresses and they felt all wrong, so I chose a fabulous dress in my favourite colour instead. Much more glamorous! No veil or flowers either.

SunnySpringVibes · 10/05/2021 17:02

I wore a red dress at the registry office. Felt great!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/05/2021 17:03

My mother wore a dull gold satin dress, and looked lovely, and a close friend wore a gorgeous navy blue dress that looked a bit like a Victorian riding habit.

Wear whatever makes you happy - but can I ask nicely for a picture of the dress please - I love wedding pictures!

planesick · 10/05/2021 17:03

I wore a red 50's dress! Everyone said how "me" it was. Wear what you love, because you are who you OH is marrying. Not some tradition.

Plump82 · 10/05/2021 17:04

I didn't wear white. I also didnt wear a bridal dress. Mine was blush pink. A proper white wedding dress isn't me at all. Wear what you want, that makes you feel special and happy.

Coldilox · 10/05/2021 17:04

I wore a silver dress, and my wife’s was purple

Shmithecat2 · 10/05/2021 17:06

Yanbu. I wore a navy blue Ghost dress.

bathorshower · 10/05/2021 17:07

I did - royal blue (it suits me). And a full, traditional church service. Nowhere does the Bible specify that brides should wear white (it's a relatively recent tradition anyway) and the vicar was fine with it.

I look unwell in white, and I didn't want anything low-cut, so chose a colour I liked. DH knew in advance, and was fully supportive - neither of us are terribly traditional anyway; he wore walking boots!

Bathwater · 10/05/2021 17:08

Mine was a mix of blush pink, lilac and peach with a blush pink veil. Chiffon/ tulle and beaded sheer bodice. Unusual but still clearly bridal. Where what you’re comfortable in and suits your venue (I was outside so an overly structured corset dress would t have felt right!)

ginghamtablecloths · 10/05/2021 17:08

I wore a blue flowered dress to my registry office wedding and told people beforehand. My family are used to me being a bit of a rebel and if they didn't like it no-one said so to my face. It's your day OP so choose what you like. Congratulations and enjoy your day.

SageMist · 10/05/2021 17:09

I wore a short cream wedding dress (made by my mum from a vogue pattern) to my first wedding and a pale blue long dress (designed by a local wedding designer) to my second.
Wear what makes you feel good. Could be jeans and a t-shirt!

Gullible2021 · 10/05/2021 17:09

The most stunning bride I’ve ever seen wore a couture red satin gown to her New York winter wedding in Central Park with white gypsophila in her very dark hair and red lips. She blew everyone else I’ve ever seen on their wedding day out the water and I thought how brave she was to buck the trend of wearing white.

In my family’s culture and country of origin red is the traditional bridal colour. Unfortunately I’ve been to so many English weddings where people’s hobby seems to be to criticise whatever the brides dress is like, I don’t feel I’d have the guts to wear anything but white or ivory.

If you have the guts, wear what the hell you like. I honestly think it’s silly that white or cream are the only acceptable colours for a lot of people. You should wear what makes you feel happiest.

motherloaded · 10/05/2021 17:12

Wear whatever you like, you are the bride!

Depending on which part of the world, you are from, you don't wear white anyway.

Ignore the "pressure", it's your day, and you will regret wearing something that didn't make you happy. Its perfectly acceptable to wear anything these days, even if white/ivory etc... are more common.

Aozora13 · 10/05/2021 17:13

I could never picture myself as a bride in a big white dress so I wore purple (my favourite colour) and DH wore white instead! My friend wore a gold jumpsuit for her wedding and looked absolutely stunning. It’s Your Special Day, wear what you want!

StiggyZardust · 10/05/2021 17:14

I wore a burnt orange dress with a red coat. I had orange, red and purple flowers. I like a bit of colour!
