to not want to wear white on my wedding day?

Did anyone wear a different colour?
I'm only getting married in a registry office with both sets of parents as guests, nothing exciting. I don't really like white dresses 🤣 or traditions! But I do feel pressure to wear a nice white dress (even if only simple and not a traditional wedding dress!)

I wore scarlet at my registry office wedding. I was actually sticking up two fingers to my now ex MIL because she hated that I'd been married before so I went dressed as the 'scarlet woman' she thought I was!

We used it as an opportunity to buy the clothes we'd always wanted but never been able to justify. I finally (after a decade of yearning) bought a custom steel boned corset top, and my husband bought the £200 boots and the poet/pirate shirts he'd wanted. It was a good excuse Smile

@FearlessFairy

Day-to-day I wear all sorts of colours. I'm very pale (which I love), red hair, freckles etc. I'm not sure why I feel pressure to wear white - maybe just societal pressures? My OHs parents are quite traditional, mine wouldn't care at all. Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm worried about being judged by my friends too I guess, even though they won't be there!!

Wedding is not until December so plenty of time to decide!

Has to be emerald green with that time of year and your colouring!
Heatherjayne1972 · 10/05/2021 18:20

I knew of a bride in a black wedding dress.

Embroideredstars · 10/05/2021 18:21

Midnight blue for me, small registry office wedding in December.

Even with a bigger do I doubt I would have done the whole white wedding dress thing, it isn't really my thing.

PerspicaciousGreen · 10/05/2021 18:23

I wore blue - and in church too! I wanted something I could wear again afterwards, so got a nice knee length blue dress from Boden (IIRC). My mother was very grumpy about it, but she got married in blue too! (Suit in a registry office)

@Gullible2021 wear red if that's what you want, who cares what other people say. You might well be the stunning bride who takes their breath away for being different - Be brave Wink

Best wedding I ever went to was two punks complete with mohicans, matching tartan, leather and chains, was lovely as it was what they wanted and suited them Smile

Wafflewombat · 10/05/2021 18:30

Gold silk, given we'd lived together for 5 years & it's a better colour for me.

billy1966 · 10/05/2021 18:30

I adore fuchsia pink and purple on red heads.

Definitely buy a dress that you will re wear.

Newstepchild · 10/05/2021 18:33

@StiggyZardust

I wore a burnt orange dress with a red coat. I had orange, red and purple flowers. I like a bit of colour!
That sounds lovely
RowanAlong · 10/05/2021 18:33

I wore goldish/taupe sort of colour, and not a wedding dress. Wear whatever you fancy! X

elenacampana · 10/05/2021 18:37

I wore white and loved it OP, but it’s not for everyone so get something that excites you :-)

To all of the posters saying white is unimaginative and they all looked so much better in whatever they put on - get over yourselves, it’s just about personal choice.

Got to find someone to marry me first lol Wink

Slippy78 · 10/05/2021 18:41

My sister got married in a black dress with red flower print from Monsoon and her cherry red DM's. She looked great.

merryhouse · 10/05/2021 18:44

My sister wore her early-music performance dress for her church wedding. It was green, with what I believe is called brocade.

therocinante · 10/05/2021 18:44

I wore dark green velvet...! Was mostly a 'normal' wedding otherwise, I just don't really like white clothes, bridal or otherwise haha.

merryhouse · 10/05/2021 18:46

Oh, and another sister wore a bronze dress she'd worn as my bridesmaid four years before, with a cream jacket. That one was a register office do. The ten-year-old bridesmaid wore cream with a green sash.

Thesagacontinues · 10/05/2021 18:46

I'll probably end up wearing white, but have thought some of the pronovias dresses in bold colours would be stunning wedding dresses. I just dont think I'd be brave enough to do it.

merryhouse · 10/05/2021 18:46

My sister-in-law wore gold with a blue cape.

Maria53 · 10/05/2021 18:47

My mum's best friend wore emerald green

Theonewiththecandles · 10/05/2021 18:52

I had nothing against white/ivory but ended up with a blush pink dress with white lace overlay. Was very bridal though!
I don't know anyone that would ever dare criticise what a bride wore!

CuntyMcBollocks · 10/05/2021 18:52

Don't wear white then. It's not the law. It's your wedding and you should feel great in whatever you choose to wear - whatever colour or style it is.

1000glitterydicks · 10/05/2021 18:55

My dress was blue. Not weddingy at all.

lovepickledlimes · 10/05/2021 18:57

White wedding dress are actually not that old of a tradition so wear whatever colour you want if you don't want to wear white.
