To be obsessed with listing for peoples old sofas

So you feel you need a new sofa, but instead of paying to get the council to take your old sofa away or a waste company you think I'll sell it on FB marketplace instead for nearly as much as you bought it for.

Personal favourites include photos of stains, where cats have scratched it. Listing must contain, just needs a clean then clean you dirty animal , plenty of life left.

During lockdown our tip was shut.. Shoved ours outside the back gate and told the council it had been dumped.. They came the same day.
Wasn't technically a lie!!

threeteenstaximum · 07/05/2021 18:39

Whaaat?? Are you shaming someone who is trying to sell their elderly parent's sofa? If might not be a bargain as much as they think but really?

Post it on Reddit as shaming older people really isn't a MN thing

Thereareliterallynonamesleft · 07/05/2021 18:41

@threeteenstaximum Read again. It’s people’s old sofas, not old people’s sofas!

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 07/05/2021 18:41

@threeteenstaximum do you try and sell your old stained rubbish for the rrp? You seem to be massively projecting.

People's old sofas, not old people's sofas Grin
SymphonyofShadows · 07/05/2021 18:43

I’m in a group that bloody loves old people’s sofas if they are from 60’s & 70’s

threeteenstaximum · 07/05/2021 18:43

Thank-you for correcting me. No projection here , it read differently .

But really come on. This isn't AIBU stuff. Unless OP had turned up and found it badly described...

SymphonyofShadows · 07/05/2021 18:44

I do know that’s not what OP meant Grin

CirclesWithinCircles · 07/05/2021 18:45

I bought a lovely Duresta sofa for £50, I can't see the problem?

As with anything second hand, just don't buy anything that's not clean?

imgoingtoregretthis · 07/05/2021 18:56

Old people shaming? What? Or grammar shaming ? Wink

Most people around here are young professionals as I live in a "new village" massive new build land.

This gaming chair was on offer on NextDoor!

BlueShrew · 07/05/2021 19:16

So you'd rather they all pile up in landfill? Or is it just the price they set that you have an issue with?

Fizbosshoes · 07/05/2021 19:18

Where I live it's the opposite.fairly often people selling a sofa on fb that they got 6-12 months ago "because it doesnt go with their new colour scheme" or they've redecorated, Confused

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/05/2021 19:21

There is a page "people selling mirrors" on facebook with 10k likes and if you ever get bored of sofas I can highly recommend to head there😂

OhForGodsSakeWhatNow · 07/05/2021 19:23

There's a fair bit of 'want what I paid for it' round here on sofas. Lots of life left..

One woman was trying to sell her old (fitted!) carpet! Specified pet-free household which made the omission of smoke-free all the more glaring. Only £150.

Oh dear. That’s quite a ... niche item.

Ah god it got taken down but there was one on our local group that I could almost smell through the screen.
I hate waste but that thing needed incinerating.

Marcis · 07/05/2021 19:30

This is what OP means...

£1.5k for a dated sofa with slime stains-bargain!

The ones I find interesting are the ones that say they are only a few weeks old, colour doesn't suit or is too big for the room etc etc.

Who can replace a sofa that soon? Who is that daft to buy the wrong size and colour?

Are they stolen?

WhoWants2Know · 07/05/2021 19:39

There are always threads on here about facebook sellers with unrealistic expectations about the value of their offerings.

This is just specifically focusing on the sofas.

I personally have one of the world's least attractive sofas, made available upon the death of an elderly villager, and initially covered in 2 pounds of Pekingese fur. Some of the bad sofas might be a step up from mine 😁

Elouera · 07/05/2021 19:41

@fancynotplain- That gaming chair!!! What can you say? Grin

@StoneofDestiny I think sometime people don't like them and they have bought them on the pay monthly type deal. I don't know if they then pay it off or buy another sofa?

My DP thinks it's a fraud thing that they have got the credit in someone else name. It's not that hard to get sofa credit.

This is great. We always got my nan and granddad's cast off when they acquired a new one Grin Do people still do that? I used to know a spend-spend-spend family who would change their furniture when they were bored with it, which was roughly every six months. Good friends to have. I think my ex is still 'looking after' one of their wide screen TVs...
