To have made DD give back the vending machine freebie?

DH thinks I am.

I allowed DD to buy some crisps from the vending machine at the swimming pool after her lesson. I paid for one packet. It dispensed two. I made her give the second one back to a nearby member of staff.

The leisure centre staff look after the vending machines and could restock it, so it would have felt dishonest to walk off with both packs. I wouldn't be bothered if it wasn't obvious who to give it to.

Was I right or a right mean mother?

I would have kept both packets personally but I'm clearly not as honest!

The people who own the machine ie Nestle or walkers, They have people come out to restock and take money. I don’t think leisure centre staff do that anymore. They probably ate the crisps.

There have been times where I've been shafted by vending machines I.e. put your money in and nothing comes out so when I get two of something (rarely) I'd think of it as karmic balance :)

Would have kept. They often fail to give you anything, then if you don't have the money for a second item you have to do without. Probably what happened is that someone else missed out before you and you got both items. So it all evens out.

Jesus, sounds a bit joyless, are you always so straight laced? It was a gift from the gods - your DD's gift - and you should have let her have them! I bet the staff thought you were nuts (as they ate the crisps...)

I used to deliberately target the items that were hanging out in the hope I would get two. It sometimes worked.

Do people actually give it back? Even as an adult I keep the second chocolate bar or whatever 🙈😂

One in my last office used to have one of the sections where it was broken slightly so always pushed out two, everyone that worked there purposely chose that one so they could get two
