To have made DD give back the vending machine freebie?

DH thinks I am.

I allowed DD to buy some crisps from the vending machine at the swimming pool after her lesson. I paid for one packet. It dispensed two. I made her give the second one back to a nearby member of staff.

The leisure centre staff look after the vending machines and could restock it, so it would have felt dishonest to walk off with both packs. I wouldn't be bothered if it wasn't obvious who to give it to.

Was I right or a right mean mother?

It’s factored into the costs that occasionally an error will have either with the machine or loading the machine and it will double dispense. Other times it May error or be loaded wrong and not dispense even though you can see it.

Unless it was erroring and you used that to your advantage to clear the machine out I as a vending machine owner myself would of kept the extra one no harm done.

Also depending on who owns the machine some have lovely fancy wireless technology installed to remote monitor for errors and low stock etc more likely if it’s a cashless machine.

Ours are not that fancy but we can pull up any errors double drops or non drops when we check the machine.

One of the rare joys of childhood. I bet the crisps were about 80p or more so bearing in mind that you could buy 6 packs for that in a supermarket I'd treat it as a gift. But then that's me. They need to fix their machines. Besides over the years I've lost money in those things when purchased items haven't been dispensed but I haven't bothered to complain because it's not worth the effort..
