To ask gym goers about their hair?

I need / want to go to the gym as much as I can. The problem is my hair!! It's thick and heavy and takes forever to wash and dry and style. I can't do this daily (wash it every other day) as I don't have the time but I do need to go to the gym daily which means I get sweaty smelly hair. I've tried dry hair shampoo and it's awful!!
What do people do in between when you can't wash it?

put it up in several mini buns, to allow maximum evaporation from scalp

or sometimes I go earlier than usual so the shower coincides with my usual daily shower and getting ready faff

OneCalamerra · 01/05/2021 11:59

I cut most of it off. Totally worth it for me. I swim every day and now washing and drying it afterwards takes a fraction of the time.

Schrutesbeets · 01/05/2021 12:02

I just don't style my hair... Gym days, have a shower and then either just dry and shove up, or plait whilst wet.

doodleygirl · 01/05/2021 12:03

Put it up. I train about 5 times a week and wash my hair twice,, just get used to how awful it looks Grin

LordEmsworth · 01/05/2021 12:04

Tie it back. Dry shampoo so it's not lank, then bun or French plait so it's off my face.

violetbunny · 01/05/2021 12:05

I exercise most days and have very thick hair too.
I haven't figured out a solution. I just wash it daily.

lljkk · 01/05/2021 12:06

I knew a lady with gorgeous hair (very curly, long, thick) who mentioned she only washed it once a week.

My hair is only thick... I don't wash it often.

dementedpixie · 01/05/2021 12:07

I only wash mine a couple of times a week and train 4 or 5 days. I tie it back and use dry shampoo when required

millenialblush · 01/05/2021 12:08

Living proof dry shampoo, absolute game changer

DeepfriedPizza · 01/05/2021 12:10

On days I don’t want to shampoo I rinse the sweat off and put in a bun or french plaits.

idontlikealdi · 01/05/2021 12:18

I also just wash it every day. Don't always dry / style it though.

MrsTophamHat · 01/05/2021 12:19

Have you tried outting the dry shampoo on before you train?

I agree that looking like crap afterwards is a big exercise deterrent for me.

Flowers500 · 01/05/2021 12:25

Hair pulled back and up, with a broad hair and at the front to help stop it getting sweaty. And dry shampoo is great, it’s hard to use at first but a lifesaver.

zenasfuck · 01/05/2021 12:26

If I go before work I wash my hair then put up in a bun so it's clean and neat for work

It's still wet when I get home but then I just blast it with hairdryer

zenasfuck · 01/05/2021 12:26

I'd rather have clean hair that isn't styled then have sweaty hair that looks tidy IYSWIM

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/05/2021 12:29

I tie it up and blast the sweat dry after Blush dry shampoo so it's not stinky. I wash twice a week. Works for me.

Sunshin388 · 01/05/2021 12:38

Dry shampoo, pony tail and a haircut. I just got 5 inches taken off my hair because it was too long to manage with the gym. It was lovely otherwise but it actually interfered with my desire to go to the gym for the same reasons you describe. Now it's lighter and sweats less and dries quickly.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/05/2021 12:54

Hair up and dry shampoo - long thick hair here and I wash it three time a week

Queenoftheashes · 01/05/2021 12:56

I don’t do anything, just tie it up. The sweat evaporates pretty quickly and then it’s just normal.

pomacentrus · 01/05/2021 13:31

Talk to your hairdresser about partially thinning it at the scalp (whilst retaining the same cut). Makes it less sweaty and easier to wash and dry.

Wotsnewpussycat · 01/05/2021 13:44

Shampoo and conditioner once a week and rinse hair in between after sweaty work outs.

postcardfromme · 01/05/2021 14:25

could I be using the wrong dry shampoo?? I use batiste and find it doesn't do anything - makes it look worse!!

I think you’re just doing it wrong? Start with a light amount when your hair is as dry as possible. Do the roots only, like a couple of big sprays from a distance only on the grim points. Avoid the central parting. Leave for a minute, then scrub in with your fingers and run through your roots. And then brush out.
ginoclocksomewhere · 01/05/2021 17:25

Try fry shampoo before you workout- I've found it works way better than waiting for my hair to dry and then using it. Not that I've been to the gym since they've opened! 🤔😅

Twilightstarbright · 01/05/2021 17:33

I try to coincide cardio workouts on hair wash day and weights on one day hair, then it gets tied up.
