What is your automatic thought on how she got it?

OP posts:
Stichintime · 30/04/2021 11:59

Had an accident?

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 30/04/2021 11:59

I don't automatically think anything. I've had 2 black eyes from random daft accidents.

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2021 12:00

It wouldn't trigger an automatic thought other than 'That looks painful'.

FuckyouCovid21 · 30/04/2021 12:00

Probably that she's a clumsy one - I opened the car door into my face a week or so ago, massive shiner

Ughmaybenot · 30/04/2021 12:00

Personally I’d not assume anything. I’ve had a few black eyes in the past... several where my horse has headbutted me, one where I walked into a door frame, one where my ex punched me. Could be anything.

VettiyaIruken · 30/04/2021 12:00

Id think probably a fight but not necessarily.

IhateBoswell · 30/04/2021 12:01

Hmm, probably that she’d accidentally hit something? Although DP once refused to go shopping with me when I had an accidental black eye “because someone will think I’m a wife beater”.

Justaboutawake · 30/04/2021 12:02

As somebody currently sporting a black eye through a thoroughly stupid self-inflicted accident I can honestly say that it wouldn’t even register in my brain to wonder how they got because the reason is usually innocent/mundane (or stupid if you’re me)

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/04/2021 12:02

You can’t assume anything! Same for a man!

BastardGoDarkly · 30/04/2021 12:03

It would go through my mind that she'd been hit yes, why?

TubeOfSmarties · 30/04/2021 12:03

Nothing. I've had black eyes from daft accidents. Of course if it were someone i knew well and i already had concerns it might be different but stuff happens.

ZoeMaye · 30/04/2021 12:03

Domestic violence. Even if they told me they had banged into a cupboard or something. I have had black eye from a boyfriends jealous ex, from a cupboard door, from an abusive partner (now ex), and from one of my DC as a toddler head butting me whilst trying to enthusiastically give me a kiss. So I do know there are other reasons but I would still think domestic violence first.

Lockdownbear · 30/04/2021 12:04

Bouncing on a trampoline with a friends and some alcohol.

But the looks I got were crazy.

Palavah · 30/04/2021 12:04

Fell off her bike? Hit in the nose with a tennis ball or a toy train?

Mylittlepony374 · 30/04/2021 12:04

I always mention it casually. Because my friend whose fuckwit husband used to hit her said she was always amazed no one mentioned her bruises. I think maybe it's an opening for someone to say something. For me to help.
But I also 99% presume accident. Because I've had a few, elbow to face in mosh pit, opened a car door on myself, pulling really hard on a dome and punched self in eye when it released suddenly.

Thesearmsofmine · 30/04/2021 12:04

Nothing, I’ve had a black eye from a netball before and my mum had the most awful one from an accident at home.

Astrabelle · 30/04/2021 12:06

I had a black eye once as a result of a surgical procedure. My boyfriend at the time was worried that people might have thought that it was due to domestic violence...

TrivialSoul · 30/04/2021 12:06

I'd think ouch, that looks sore. I wouldn't think beyond that.

Bluesheep8 · 30/04/2021 12:06

I wouldn't wonder how she got it unless there was something else that made me wonder. I've had many black eyes in my time and I'd hate to think that people automatically assumed I was lying about what caused them.

Happycat1212 · 30/04/2021 12:06

I wouldn’t really think anything

SofiaMichelle · 30/04/2021 12:06

@Palavah

Fell off her bike? Hit in the nose with a tennis ball or a toy train?
Hit on the nose with a toy train is the first thing I'd think, too.
OneRingToRuleThemAll · 30/04/2021 12:07

I gave myself a black eye last week. I was shaving my legs, bent down and whacked my face on the bathroom cabinet door which I left open.

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/04/2021 12:07

I was wondering if this was. Thread about Ghislsine Maxwell...

Justforphoto · 30/04/2021 12:08

Friend A would assume accident, friend b would gently enquire in case of DV. Someone random I saw and was not connected to I'd think ouch that looks sore.

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/04/2021 12:10

Honestly? I wouldn't think anything or bother thinking about it to work out why. I've certainly had a black eye before, as a result of just some random bad luck (stray football etc.

It could be anything, car accident, drunken fall, non drunken fall, plastic surgery or fillers, medical procedure, or just any minor inconsequential thing.
