Who is BU, 1 or 2, lasagne building

Lighthearted but I'm intrigued as to how everyone else puts together their lasagna... Not the ingredients or cooking but the actual 'building' of it, me and my husband disagree.
So I've been making it the same way for years, husband has never complained about it and loves it but last night was surprised to find out how I constructed it, he said he would do it differently, so which way you would agree with:

  1. Meat, pasta, white sauce, repeat, cheese on top.
  2. Pasta, meat, repeat, white sauce on top only, cheese

I'm not keen on white sauce so I do 2. I believe 1 is more traditional though.

I do veg sauce, pasta, white sauce, pasta, repeat. Top it off with white sauce and cheese.

NoSquirrels · 30/04/2021 10:09

Proper Italian lasagne has more than 2 layers of pasta, though.

Stevearnottsbeard · 30/04/2021 10:09

Not sure if it makes a difference but husband used to be a chef but unless it's a special occasion I do all the cooking

Neither.
I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese.

FlyingBurrito · 30/04/2021 10:10

This is totally a matter of personal taste, no one should have to prepare food in a certain way if they don't like it purely because it's traditional but I've only ever used method 1

TheFlis12345 · 30/04/2021 10:11

I do 1.

If you put pasta as the bottom layer, doesn't it stick to the dish?

FuckyouCovid21 · 30/04/2021 10:18

Yeah I never put more than one layer of white sauce on so I do the same as @GinnieHempstock

Dollywilde · 30/04/2021 10:18

I only do white sauce and cheese on top but like PP it’s because I’m not wild about white sauce and want to pack in as much ragu as possible Grin but you’ve listed pasta first for option 2? I wouldn’t put pasta on the base so I’m assuming you’ve got pasta and meat the wrong way around there? Or is this a thing?

TrashPanda · 30/04/2021 10:18

I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese. I don't like too much white sauce.

Merryoldgoat · 30/04/2021 10:18
  1. My DH and I had a debate about this last week and had two lasagnes - one each way - to decide. 1 was the best.
RightOnTheEdge · 30/04/2021 10:18

I'd do 1, I like plenty of white sauce in a lasagne.

MrsPnut · 30/04/2021 10:19

I use method 1 and it needs at least 3 layers to hold together when serving.

Bechamel just on top is completely wrong.
