Who is BU, 1 or 2, lasagne building

Lighthearted but I'm intrigued as to how everyone else puts together their lasagna... Not the ingredients or cooking but the actual 'building' of it, me and my husband disagree.
So I've been making it the same way for years, husband has never complained about it and loves it but last night was surprised to find out how I constructed it, he said he would do it differently, so which way you would agree with:

  1. Meat, pasta, white sauce, repeat, cheese on top.
  2. Pasta, meat, repeat, white sauce on top only, cheese

  1. I so wish you'd enabled voting.

If anyone is struggling with making white sauce, use the cheese sauce recipe from the bbc cauliflower cheese recipe. Perfect for lasagna

Hesma · 30/04/2021 20:14

1... never heard of 2 before, bizarre!

stillcrazyafterall · 30/04/2021 20:14

Meat pasta white sauce pasta repeat

flippertygibbit · 30/04/2021 20:23

I follow 1 however traditionally I believe 2 is correct.

yellowdenim · 30/04/2021 20:24

Neither. Meat, bechamel, pasta, meat, bechamel, pasta, meat, bechamel, grated cheese

Frogsonglue · 30/04/2021 20:24

I think 2 is more authentic but 1 is way tastier.

Frogsonglue · 30/04/2021 20:25

Also, bechemel is correct, but what sort of misery guts wouldn't just make it cheesy.

Stevearnottsbeard · 30/04/2021 20:27

OK... So I put the veg in because it bulks it out and I want us to have some veg, anyway I let the meat simmer away on the hob for a couple of hours so by the time we eat it they've mushed down to nothing and have just added flavour.
As to the white sauce from a jar... My husband has shown me but its just something I can't get to grips with and I get frustrated and angry so I give up. My husband would rather I relax and make my life easier, he's just happy he's being fed!! 😂 😂
He hasn't been a chef for around 15yrs now so he's not quite as fussy as he mayhave been!! 😂

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 30/04/2021 20:46

Ps. Yy to cheese in the bechamel.

Mummy1232016 · 30/04/2021 20:48

@GinnieHempstock

Neither. I do meat, pasta, meat, pasta, white sauce, cheese.
Yep me too
KeyWorker · 30/04/2021 22:02

2 for me. The first time I ever made lasagne from scratch (aged 20, living in flat share) it turned into disgusting creamy mince. White sauce on the top only.

sbhydrogen · 30/04/2021 22:03

1 for me

Concestor · 01/05/2021 12:35

I do a version of 1: pasta, then meat, white sauce, pasta done twice, then white sauce topped with grated cheese.

Imo you need the pasta at the bottom and top to hold it all together.

StevieNix · 01/05/2021 12:39

1- but then I’m a heathen and do a cheese sauce rather than a white sauce so not sure my opinion is valid Grin

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 01/05/2021 12:43

Used to do 2 (having learned that way at school) but now do 1. 1 definitely better

trashcansinatra · 01/05/2021 12:52

I don't do either,

I do
White sauce on the bottom then repeat:
Pasta, white sauce, meat
Until the top, then pasta, white sauce, cheese.

Often the white sauce has some cheese in it.

IndigoSkye · 01/05/2021 12:55

imgoinginsaneinthemembrane · 01/05/2021 14:03

I do neither Grin
Meat
Pasta
White sauce
Pasta

Lesssaideasymended · 01/05/2021 15:03

Mypathtriedtokillme · 01/05/2021 16:02

Ragu, pasta, fresh mozzarella, Ragu, pasta, mozzarella, etc etc then cheese on top.

My mil puts boiled egg in the layers which is traditional in some regional areas of Italy but is actually rank. Her sauce is more pasta sauce than Ragu.

So really every region has its own lasagna laying and all are totally valid (unless it has boiled egg then it’s gross)

HeronLanyon · 01/05/2021 18:36

As a 1 but with pasta on the bottom - I keep worrying about everyone starting with other wetter things. I’d be worried about messy missing out when serving.
I do butter my baking dish - helps crisp edges and bottom pasta level a bit.

Bipitybopityboop · 02/05/2021 02:47

I'm going to go ahead and chuck in an option 3.

Bottom layer:
Meat sauce
Pasta

Then:
Meat sauce
Pasta
White sauce
Pre sliced Mozzarella
Pasta
Repeat

Top layer:
I always have white sauce on the top layer, topped with pre sliced Mozzarella.
