It’s a parking one!

Ok, I think I need a reality check as I’ve just been made to feel like the most unreasonable person in the world.

For background, we live in a small new build cul-de-sac, there’s a whole bank of visitor parking down the one side and then everyone has 2x parking spaces in front of their houses. Was outside bringing the bin in and a car just drove up in one of our spaces, next to our car. Woman got out and I didn’t know her so I just said ‘sorry that’s our private parking space’ and she replied ‘I’ll only be 15 minutes or so’ and carried on walking so I replied that it didn’t matter how long she was going to be, could she move please’ and she just stopped and stared at me, mumbled something and then shouted to our neighbour but one who was outside “Derek!* I’m going to have to move, SHE (point) has told me to move!!” shot me a few looks, more mumbling etc. Then she drives to the visitor bit and parks (so she knew where it was).

Funny thing is that was at 9am and she’s still here so not 15 minutes. I wouldn’t mind if people asked (no one ever does!) e.g if the visitor parking was full, but it’s the entitlement to park on what is essentially a driveway, without asking that wound me up. But now I feel like the dick.

I’ll see if I can draw a pic 😆

You aren’t a dick. She is.

Aprilshowersandhail · 29/04/2021 09:51

Imo she should have been taken round The Back and shot...
Lesson to the rest.
I hate cf parkers.
We have a permit only street. People park inconsiderately and I have been now to leave PA notes....
Ad I don't apologise for it.

ShirleyPhallus · 29/04/2021 09:51

Woman parks her car, you ask woman to move, she moves it. Seems like a bit of a non-story with the only bit of drama putting the emphasis on SHE.

Was hoping for more tbh. Didn’t she spray you with a water pistol on her way out, or repaint the parking lines around her car, or anything a bit juicer?

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 09:52

Really bad pic!

Following for the diagram..... 👀

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 09:54

I know it’s a non story but I just wondered whether you’d let someone park in your space for a short amount of time (she’s still there) that’s all Smile

Why didn’t she park at dereks house if she was visiting derek?

Angrypregnantlady · 29/04/2021 09:56

She's essentially parked on your driveway then got pissy when you told her to move. I'd be very embarrassed if I was Derek!

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 09:56

Same here @Aprilshowersandhail we have 1 car, two spaces so people assume one is s free for all, even though it’s outside our house and even though you would never park on someone’s drive! AND our spaces have our house number painted in.

OP posts:
Angrypregnantlady · 29/04/2021 09:57

The only person I'd let park on my driveway would be a midwife/paramedic if there was no other parking.

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 09:58

@UhtredRagnarson

Why didn’t she park at dereks house if she was visiting derek?
Derek has two cars, we have one so have a space free. Even though the visitor area had spaces.

She isn’t the first and probably won’t be the last.

Derek doesn’t care, he parked his noddy car in our space when we first moved in before I found out it was his and told him to move it.

DP said I should have just left it, but he’s so non confrontational. I am too but I do stick up for myself.

She was definitely being a cf. She knew she was parking on your property so good on you calling her out on it and hopefully she won't repeat her behaviour.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 29/04/2021 10:00

You were right. Give these kind of people an inch and they’ll be parking in your space forever more!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/04/2021 10:02

Can you park over both your spaces to deter the Cheeky Parker's?

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 10:02

Yes, it was the stare, like ‘andddd…’ like she was waiting for me to give a good reason why she couldnt park there instead of the only reason being it was our property.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/04/2021 10:02

well I'd be parking slap bang in the middle of my two spaces from now on...you have two, and one car...problem solved.

Also I might try and chintz it up a bit by parking at random angles just for the hell of it

Angeldust747 · 29/04/2021 10:03

Why didn't she park in one of the spaces next door to Derek rather than at yours next door but one?! YANBU

UhtredRagnarson · 29/04/2021 10:03

I hate this type of parking that is down in new build estates. I had the same in my previous house which was beside a primary school. I had one car, two spaces. People would pull in and head off to collect little darling and then head to the play park Hmm if I was there I asked them to move and they would sulk. Problem was my DC went to a different primary school and sometimes I would come back to cars in both my spaces. So I parked across the back of both of them. Made them wait ages when they knocked to ask me to move.

We’ve done this before but because there’s no hedge separating the two spaces, our neighbours on one side start encroaching into our bay. We can’t win 🤣

Oh and something that used to drive me mad was my neighbour’s visitors would park in my space when the neighbour had an empty space! Why???

UhtredRagnarson · 29/04/2021 10:05

You need to put some heavy planters along your boundary.

Unfortunately when we park over two spaces our next door neighbours think they can encroach and use it for extra space for their cars (I did another crap pic!) 🤣

Put planters of wild flowers on the outside edge of both spaces then park in the middle. Good for the bees too :)
