It’s a parking one!

Ok, I think I need a reality check as I’ve just been made to feel like the most unreasonable person in the world.

For background, we live in a small new build cul-de-sac, there’s a whole bank of visitor parking down the one side and then everyone has 2x parking spaces in front of their houses. Was outside bringing the bin in and a car just drove up in one of our spaces, next to our car. Woman got out and I didn’t know her so I just said ‘sorry that’s our private parking space’ and she replied ‘I’ll only be 15 minutes or so’ and carried on walking so I replied that it didn’t matter how long she was going to be, could she move please’ and she just stopped and stared at me, mumbled something and then shouted to our neighbour but one who was outside “Derek!* I’m going to have to move, SHE (point) has told me to move!!” shot me a few looks, more mumbling etc. Then she drives to the visitor bit and parks (so she knew where it was).

Funny thing is that was at 9am and she’s still here so not 15 minutes. I wouldn’t mind if people asked (no one ever does!) e.g if the visitor parking was full, but it’s the entitlement to park on what is essentially a driveway, without asking that wound me up. But now I feel like the dick.

I’ll see if I can draw a pic 😆

If you really wanted to get your own back just kick a potato up their exhaust pipe. (This is not a euphemism.)

Their car will refuse to start. Endless hours of fun for you.

Noshowlomo · 29/04/2021 12:38

CFs of the highest order... oh block them in every time

WeatherwaxOn · 29/04/2021 12:50

Weeedonkey no planters yet, but working with local schools and councils to see what we can do. The crossing is on the bend of a road so whichever way you approach, if someone is parked illegally, then you can't see children stepping out.
I was going to order some bits from [[https://yplac.co.uk/shop/]] but the thought of many small children reading the signs and asking what they meant could be a bit awkward...

WeatherwaxOn · 29/04/2021 12:51

^Linky thing went a bit wrong but hopefully makes sense.

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 12:52

@Looneytune253

I do think you're being a tad dramatic. You only use one space and they're on the street. I can't see the harm unless it's all the time. Honestly I would find something else to get worked up about/ I know everyone loves a CF parking story on here but I don't think this is that bad.
Possibly that’s why I asked 😆 but the parking isn’t on the street, it’s just outside my house but with painted boxes (like a drive I guess)

If you had a driveway and it had no car on it, you’d expect someone not to just park there, I feel it’s the same?

Those saying the OP shouldn't be fussed. This is her property. It's not an allocated communal parking space. SHE OWNS IT.

I'm with you OP. These CF parkers don't care. anything for their sole convenience. Only way to deal with them is to block them or tell 'em politely to get orf my land!

There's another thread where parents waiting at a school just coolly stand around on the OP's lawn like it was a public park.

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 12:54

It's a gradual creep and then before you know it, it's 24/7 so yes you have to stamp on it. Besides if someone has a 2 car driveway and 1 car, you don't think oh they're not using it and it's only every so often, I'm going to park on their drive. It's not yours to use

Yes @QueenPaw I’ve just said the same! 🙂

This made me laugh but it wouldn’t injure them in any way would it? like CO2 going back into the car? They’re CFs but I don’t want them dead 😆

Where's Olaf when you need him? Grin

YANBU OP. It's your property, your parking space and they have no right to park there. I'd have backed my car off the drive to park across the back of them, but then I'm petty like that...

apooagnuandyou · 29/04/2021 13:01

@Weeedonkey

I know it’s a non story but I just wondered whether you’d let someone park in your space for a short amount of time (she’s still there) that’s all Smile
Unless it's an ambulance or a fire truck, no.

If my neighbours politely ask me as a favour before hand, that would be fine too.

I always want to but apparently you’re in the wrong if you do? Ridiculous really but some laws are to be honest 😂

What’s the Olaf reference?? 🤣

This is exactly like my parking. The visitors spaces though have been taken over by residents who shout at anyone who parks on them. The management company have said they will paint them with a V but six years on we are still waiting. If anyone parks on my second space, I tell them I'm not insured for any damage to their vehicle while it's parked on my land.

WarwickHunt · 29/04/2021 13:16

I'd say depends on how many spaces are free. If there were only ten cars spread out around twenty places I wouldn't have made a fuss about it. If parking is a real problem I would.

Same here. A few people have 3 cars but 2 parking spaces and so use the visitor parking for their extra car. Which means visitors then try their luck in other people’s spaces.

Also, why are management companies so useless 🙄 we pay them all this money but all they do is mow the lawn.

I think that’s the issue though, that people just see the spaces as parking for anyone but in fact the spaces are right outside my house (so like a driveway but two spaces) so it’s like they’re driving on a driveway.

I think if this was a street with all driveways, you wouldn’t expect anyone to park up on someone else’s driveway (regardless of the parking situation) I think that you’d park up outside their house? I think this is the same? These spaces are in my house deeds and I pay insurance for them - so any other car is not covered in those spaces, if any damage happens.

WiddlinDiddlin · 29/04/2021 15:32

For those saying 'ooh whats the issue if you aren't using it'..

Next week I'll have two cars parked in my allocated parking spot, I normally only have one car.

If the hire WAV turns up and can't park in my spot because some CF is in it, I can't have my weeks trial. That would be a massive pain in the bum for me, I might have to wait weeks for another opportunity.

If you have two spaces that are yours, then they are yours. If you start letting it go when people park there without prior permission, you can set a precedent that causes you massive issues later on down the line.

Weeedonkey · 29/04/2021 18:05

With you there @WiddlinDiddlin so bloody annoying Angry

Just FYI, the last time I saw Derek’s CF mate’s car was at about 2pm so obviously not the 15 minutes she stared this morning! So as well as a CF Parker she’s also a bare faced liar 🤥

Take no prisoners. Get planters, CCTV and snipers. Sorted.

KatherineOfGaunt · 29/04/2021 18:24

I was thing to say you need an Olaf! Grin

Definitely CF. It's ridiculous about the lack of signs - it would solve some problems! God for you for standing up for yourself, though. I'm terrible at stuff like that.
