Feeling flat about drinks outside tomorrow !

I have a child free day tomorrow and I'm meeting a male friend for drinks outside. There's no romance there but I still want to look nice but don't know what to wear, the forecast looks great but I'm not ready to get my pasty legs out yet and all my summer clothes are packed away due to lack of wardrobe space, I suppose I'll end up wearing jeans and a top as usual while all around me there will probably be ladies in skimpy sun dresses and sandals !! I'll be nice to finally go to a pub but I can't summon up any sort of enthusiasm for it !!

I am feeling a bit like this too. I have ordered some lovely sun dresses during lockdown and couldn’t wait to wear them but I just don’t feel ready to yet! I can’t be bothered doing my tan and now that the time has come I can go out for a drink I’m not fussed at all. One of the dresses I have that I loved and couldn’t wait to wear is white and I CBA worrying about getting makeup or spilling wine on it

WorraLiberty · 24/04/2021 14:48

I'm confused about the relevance of him being male? 😂

Can you not dig out a long Summer dress from your wardrobe? If not, a short sleeved top and jeans.

There's nothing wrong with white skin though. I do wish people would stop describing it as 'pasty'.

PinkBuffalo · 24/04/2021 14:48

Oh lolli do not worry about your legs! Lots of us in the same boat and I been wearing my shorts out and about.
Wear your nice dress and have a nice time 🙂
It made me feel better making the effort to shave my legs after weeks of not doing them, maybe pamper yourself a little bit so you feel bit better
But I hope you have a nice time 🙂

therocinante · 24/04/2021 14:55

I am milk bottle pale and never once been bothered, it's just a skin colour - why try and make it a different one just because it's summer?! Dig out a summer dress and chuck a jacket in your bag for if it's cold and enjoy your child free day in the sun - it'd be a waste to spend it all worrying about what you're dressed like when nobody else will give it a second thought!

actiongirl1978 · 24/04/2021 14:57

I've seen people today in sundresses and cold shoulder tops. They look ridiculous, it's april! Wear jeans and a top and converse or similar, sunnies and a bit of lip gloss.

Boys never notice what girls wear anyway.

actiongirl1978 · 24/04/2021 14:58

Oh and I'm envious as I will be staying in again with 2DC and 2 dogs Nd no chance whatsoever of a trip for a pint!

Thunderpunt · 24/04/2021 15:01

It's not warm enough for sundresses or strapped tops! I have a south facing decked area to the front of our restaurant and have been serving people all week - and they have been doing the whole 'cardigan off' 'cardigan back on' dance all week. As soon as the sun goes behind a cloud it's still quite chilly so I'd really suggest you do wear jeans and a top (and take a jacket too!)

Contactlesslenses · 24/04/2021 15:01

I went out for a couple of drinks one lunchtime last week, wore summery linen trousers, sandals and a top and cardigan. Was absolutely freezing. The pub garden was in the shade, there was a bit of a breeze.. I lasted 2 drinks and went home to warm up!

DIshedUp · 24/04/2021 15:03

You clearly want to wear a dress because you are worrying about others looking nice in dresses. So wear a dress

How many times have you looked at someone else's legs and though "blimey they are pasty", because I have never once thought of anyone but myself as pasty

LubaLuca · 24/04/2021 15:04

I've just had a sunny beer garden lunch. Everyone was very casual, jeans and t-shirts. Nobody is in their lightest summer stuff yet, definitely no bare legs or shoulders.

IEat · 24/04/2021 15:16

Thanks for say it’s a make friend, I’d have spent a sleepless night wonder if you’re friend was female or male.,.now I’ll spend my time wondering what they themselves identify us. Today I identify as a moth called Jackfly

IEat · 24/04/2021 15:16

Male friend

lollipoprainbow · 24/04/2021 15:20

@actiongirl1978 that's exactly what I was planning on wearing !!

I prefer to dress for the weather and temperature rather than the date!
It was absolutely roasting yesterday and today where I live in Lancashire. Sitting in a jumper would have been ridiculous. People were sat in the beer garden in summer dresses. I didn't notice any pasty legs. It did cool down quickly from about 7.45pm though.
I hope this guy is worrying about looking nice for you as well!

WorraLiberty · 24/04/2021 15:25

What does the month have to do with anything? Confused

The only thing that would've looked ridiculous is if they were sat there shivering their tits off.

ilovesooty · 24/04/2021 15:29

I'm wearing a sundress in the back garden. It's quite warm enough. April has nothing to do with it.

the80sweregreat · 24/04/2021 15:32

You could always put on some fake tan ? Can be done subtly and make you a bit less conscious of your legs?

LakieLady · 24/04/2021 15:39

It might be warm enough where you are @ilovesooty, but here in Sussex there's a freezing easterly wind.

I was lulled into a false sense of security by the sunshine, went out to do a bit of gardening in a long-sleeved t-shirt, and had to come back in and put a fleece on before I'd even managed to put stakes in for my peonies.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 24/04/2021 15:42

Dress or skirt and leggings or tights? Can always pop to the loo and take them off if it's too cold

MargotMoon · 24/04/2021 15:50

Boys never notice what girls wear anyway.

Perhaps not, but men are a little more observant Hmm

Blueeyedgirl21 · 24/04/2021 15:56

Its April, don’t worry about fake tan and dresses for the pub garden! Jeans, sliders or flat sandals, a white shirt or t shirt tucked in, sunglasses and a bit of bright lippy and you will look fab! Even converse or pumps if you’re not wanting to get your feet out. Take a leather jacket or a light coat, I have a Rains jacket or a black gilet that I wear for outside socializing these days and if it gets cold it takes the edge off. Have a wine or beer getting ready to take the edge of the anxiety off and enjoy yourself.

It's 18 degrees here! Why would anyone dress by the calendar instead of the weather?

fairydustandpixies · 24/04/2021 16:10

I've seen everything from hot pants and flip flops to duffel coats and ugg boots today! Just wear what you're comfortable in and remember that it's a lot colder than you think (but you can still get burnt...looks at crispy arm from sitting in the garden for an hour...).

ButeIsle · 24/04/2021 16:13

I'm reusing the wool shawl/ wrap that I had a couple of winters ago. Ideal to put over an outfit, sometimes even over my coat.
Bonus is I wrap them over my legs too.

PolarnOpirate · 24/04/2021 16:15

No one is in their summer clothes yet apparently.... here I am in long strappy maxi dress and sandals 😄 I obviously didn’t get the ‘can’t wear what you want until June’ memo 😄
