Feeling flat about drinks outside tomorrow !

I have a child free day tomorrow and I'm meeting a male friend for drinks outside. There's no romance there but I still want to look nice but don't know what to wear, the forecast looks great but I'm not ready to get my pasty legs out yet and all my summer clothes are packed away due to lack of wardrobe space, I suppose I'll end up wearing jeans and a top as usual while all around me there will probably be ladies in skimpy sun dresses and sandals !! I'll be nice to finally go to a pub but I can't summon up any sort of enthusiasm for it !!

Well I'm sticking to my guns on this, the air cools down so quickly with a breeze or as it gets later, I think dressing for the summer would be madness at this time of year - and I grew up in the North!

I'm with the Europeans on this. Until it hits 20degs, it's jeans with a lovely top and possibly some nice knitwear slung over a shoulder Grin

Oh and to the PP who didn't like me referring to men as boys... IME, men never or very rarely notice what women wear.

OP I hope you have a wonderful time.

Bluntness100 · 24/04/2021 16:31

Are you interested in him? Where are your clothes stored that you can’t get to them?

DDiva · 24/04/2021 16:32

Weve been out all day. Its lovely in the sun but the wind is cold and theres still a chill in the air.

If you do dig out a sundress you'll probably want a cardi or something..........

Howshouldibehave · 24/04/2021 16:32

We are in the south east and it’s been lovely and sunny here, but it’s not actually that warm-there’s a really sharp cold breeze!

I’ve just come back from lunch at our pub and 95% of people were in jeans, trainers/boots and a hoodie-I put my coat on for the last half hour! There were a couple of women in summer dresses but they looked frozen.

Wear jeans and a pretty top! Take a hoodie/coat.

LaceyBetty · 24/04/2021 16:36

I was out for a drink today and no one was in anything approaching skimpy. It's just not warm enough. "Everyone" was in jeans and a top and a blazer and a scarf and white trainers (love that look and glad it's in style right now).

Fuzzyspringroll · 24/04/2021 16:39

It's 18 degrees here and that's spring. No need for summer dresses. I'd be freezing. DS is desperate to get in the pool but it's just too cold. I'm currently sitting outside in the garden in the sunshine. The area is quite sheltered but I'm still wearing a hooded jumper, jeans and trainers. I've always found the sight of my British colleagues wearing flip flops and summer clothes at the slightest rays of sunshine slightly bewildering...,yet amusing.
Summer means temperatures rising to 30-40 degrees here. I'll get my summer dresses out for that...

Pleasantly warm though it is, it’s too early for skimpy summer dresses, especially if you’re still out in the evening
lollipoprainbow · 24/04/2021 17:51

Thanks all I'm in West Sussex and it's breezy today. Feel a bit better about it all now x

I couldn’t get a table anywhere tonight so also jealous. Got a friend coming over but fancied going out. Oh well!

Agree that pale skin is perfectly fine! It’s not my skin colour but when I see paler white skin I never think it’s less nice than another other colour. All colours are nice!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/04/2021 18:08

I don’t know it’s it’s terrible old fashioned but I like jeans under a dress.

SnugglySnerd · 24/04/2021 18:15

It isn't actually that warm though, lovely and sunny and nice being outside but definitely not sun dress weather yet, especially if sitting still. I think jeans would be more suitable. I sat in the garden for a bit this afternoon and had to go and get my hoodie.

Grapewrath · 24/04/2021 18:16

Maybe try a dress, denim jacket and trainers. Also near West Sussex and it’s not that warm

Thatwentbadly · 24/04/2021 18:18

I’m in the NE but I’ve been out in jeans and out. It’s 11c and perfect clothes for sitting outside. Skimpy dresses sounds like a recipe for freezing!

RavingAnnie · 24/04/2021 18:23

I don't understand your post? Why is your inability to wear a sundress affecting your feelings about going out tomorrow?

Loveistheonlyway · 24/04/2021 18:31

notacooldad

Roasting? Blimey what do you describe the weather as when it actually is hot! 😁 The sun is strong but sitting in a pub garden tomorrow I'd definitely still be in jeans with a jumper close by

Jumpers268 · 24/04/2021 18:34

Everyone is so sassy on here today. I wore a summer dress and a jacket today (apparently looking ridiculous). It was really warm, but I feel the heat so I'm always pretty warm. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and don't worry about looking pale! I think a lot of us are as the weather is only just warming up. Enjoy it! Smile

😂
Fair comment but anything over 15°c is classed as hot for me!!
I've had a summer dress on but had my denim jacket handy!
We are going back out but I'm putting my jeans on for the evening.

Thefaceofboe · 24/04/2021 18:59

I've seen people today in sundresses and cold shoulder tops. They look ridiculous, it's april

It was 19 degrees in Bristol today. Why wouldn’t you wear a sundress?

Loveistheonlyway · 24/04/2021 19:14

Because the wind is bloody freezing as is going into the shade

ChairmansReserve · 24/04/2021 19:19

@Siepie

it's 18 degrees here! Why would anyone dress by the calendar instead of the weather?

18 degrees is not sundress and bare legs weather!! I went out earlier in thick jeans, vest top, jumper, and wool wrap over the top, and my gloves on!

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/04/2021 19:21

Just wear what you are comfortable in. Last week I wore jeans, hoody, ballet flats and a body warmer one time and the next gym leggings, trainers and a hoody. For an evening I wore jeans, Uggs, base layer, hoody, big coat and a blanket.

I get what you mean though, I hate my legs so never get them out and feel crap sat in trousers whilst everyone is in shorts or skimpy dresses.

Gloves? In 18 degrees sun? Wow. You must really feel the cold. I'd have been sweltering. Find it odd people telling other people what is appropriate to wear based on how hot or cold they are. I can't imagine ever doing that. My 6 year old wore shorts and a t shirt and was still sweating 🤷😂.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/04/2021 19:29

The weather is beautiful but with a very cold edge to it when you are in the shade or sitting still. I would be dressing for warmth, because there is nothing more miserable than trying to enjoy a leisurely lunch or drinks as your hands turn blue and your face and lips are too cold to speak. Impossible to relax.

Campervan69 · 24/04/2021 19:43

My garden is a sheltered suntrap so I've been in sundresses all week. It then surprises me when I venture out that its not that warm in the wind/shade. However I love my bright summer clothes so will continue to wear them while the sun is shining.

Tumbleweed101 · 24/04/2021 20:21

I'm going out tomorrow and was debating which warm top/jumper to wear with jeans for sitting outside to eat. Definitely not summer dress weather in the cold wind but might be warmer elsewhere I guess.
