So odd
It’s absolutely DOMINATING the news
The journalists are talking about “everybody” being appalled / having an opinion

Would I be correct in thinking that many many many women, in fact the vast majority, don’t give a toss?

Football/footballers often dominate the news when something big is going on. It shouldn’t be that surprising to you. Makes a change from the constant Royal Family and COVID coverage anyway.

And whilst many people don’t care, many do, so the media will obviously report on it. You don’t have to take the use of ‘everybody having an opinion’ quite so literally. They probably meant everyone within the sporting world having an opinion anyway.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 21/04/2021 09:35

Yet you started a thread?

And many, many women DO like football OP. Shocker!

Lassy1945 · 21/04/2021 09:35

I have no issue with it being reported

But if you listen to the reporting
It is being presented that we are ALL in uproar about this!

ilovesooty · 21/04/2021 09:37

If you don't care, you don't care. I care very much.

I think it's a strange thing to create a thread about. Surely it's pretty obvious that people have different interests?

Excilente · 21/04/2021 09:39

well im female, and i care.. so yabu :)

I dont even particularly watch football, or even like it, but i DO care about our grass roots football that something like this would affect if the big teams had to leave the premiership.

thankfully they've all pulled out of the ESL.

the80sweregreat · 21/04/2021 09:39

I agree that it's just so boring ! I know people live and breath football , but enough is enough.
( we all know the big clubs are awful, everyone needs to move on!)

GoryGilmore · 21/04/2021 09:39

Well, I don’t like football, and none of my friends are interested either. But yesterday it came up in discussion and we agreed that in principle it was wrong. You don’t have to like football to have an opinion on this.

And if you take everything the media says literally, we’d all be in uproar about everything. That’s how some silly people get hysterical over things that don’t really affect them. It happens all the time. Just take it as a pinch of salt and accept that whilst you might not care, some people do and the media just whips things up sometimes.

Timeforabiscuit · 21/04/2021 09:40

I've LOVED this story! I don't have a team I support, but when the story broke and the Super League had that token womens game line it hooked me.

I've truly enjoyed watching it all unfold (and collapse) and its made a brilliant topic of conversation that wasn't corona, brexit or Prince Philip!

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 21/04/2021 09:41

I’m not really bothered about it but can understand why it’s dominating the news, football is a big deal in this country.

Upamountain43 · 21/04/2021 09:42

`
I could not give two hoots about Prince Phillips death but care passionately about football - that's life. we are all interested in different things.

BookishZen · 21/04/2021 09:42

What an absolute sexist comment to make. Clearly you don’t like football but having myself been to many many football matches you’ll actually find that there is near enough an even split of women and men at the stadium.

Educate yourself first before spouting nonsense on the internet.

GiveUsACwtch · 21/04/2021 09:42

As both a woman, and a football fan, I absolutely do give a toss!!

toastofthetown · 21/04/2021 09:43

You’re not being unreasonable to not care about things that don’t interest you but you are to start another thread to say don’t care. Football doesn’t interest me either, so I don’t start conversations about it.

dottiedaisee · 21/04/2021 09:43

Football is a sport that has definitely kept people sane over the last year ! It is shocking that this was even contemplated!

QuizzlyBear · 21/04/2021 09:44

Couldn't give a stuff, I have no skin in the game (as it were)....

Pedalpushers · 21/04/2021 09:44

I think many people are snobby about football and have therefore decided it is 'lesser' news, yes.

RunningFromInsanity · 21/04/2021 09:44

As a woman and football fan, this is a huge story.

And it’s turning into a bit of a soap opera so it’s very enjoyable (now that it’s not happening)

ssd · 21/04/2021 09:45

Golly gosh, so what do you give a flying fig about @Lassy1945?

TwoleftUggs · 21/04/2021 09:45

I’m female. I care and I’ve been enthralled by the story. Between that and Colin v Cuthbert I’ve hardly had to read any Covid news this week.

Branleuse · 21/04/2021 09:46

err, ok, theres surely lots of current affairs and news that you arent that interested in compared to other topics?

daisyjgrey · 21/04/2021 09:46

I don't have any interest in football bar a cursory chat with my partner when his team plays and asking if they've won etc.

However it's possible to not give a toss about football (I don't care at all and only show interest because my partner enjoys it), and know that on a moral basis the Super League idea is wrong.

I don't give a shit about the royal family or opera either but I still know enough to hold a basic conversation about them. It's called being an adult 🤷🏻‍♀️

QuizzlyBear · 21/04/2021 09:46

Mind you, I'm a bit pissed off that BJ is weighing in with 'we'll do everything in our power to prevent it'.

Really? There's nothing else you might want to focus on right now? Economic collapse? A global pandemic? Blatant cronyism and corruption? Brexit- related riots in NI?

Football, FFS!

drpet49 · 21/04/2021 09:47

I couldn’t care less

BrumBoo · 21/04/2021 09:50

This is more serious than the bloody cake sage currently ongoing. Football is more than just a game, in terms of finances. It is already corrupt without this blatant money-fiddling play.

It's pissed everyone off in a perfect storm, fans for their clubs chasing an easy buck and risking being kicked out of domestic play, and the higher ups of UEFA watching their more profitable teams taking away from their pot. Football is one of our biggest economic resources, and not just for the games. The stadiums, players, even the place-names themselves are used to generate so much income. To try and fuck with it is just incredibly stupid and greedy.

Aposterhasnoname · 21/04/2021 09:52

Can’t get past the rampant sexism, sorry. I’m a woman, and I care very much.
