So odd
It’s absolutely DOMINATING the news
The journalists are talking about “everybody” being appalled / having an opinion

Would I be correct in thinking that many many many women, in fact the vast majority, don’t give a toss?

OP posts:
Rachie1973 · 21/04/2021 10:01

I love my football! My daughter and I both have season tickets

Lassy1945 · 21/04/2021 10:09

@Aposterhasnoname

Can’t get past the rampant sexism, sorry. I’m a woman, and I care very much.
Rampant sexism? Oh get off your high horse.

I didn’t say “all women” I said the “vast majority”

Look at the football stands - dominated by men.

It is not sexist to point out the fact that many more men are football fans than women!

OP posts:
IamaBluebird · 21/04/2021 10:10

Well everyone knows it’s only men who are interested in football op, why on earth would you start a conversation about something women couldn’t possibly be concerned about.

Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2021 10:12

I am more interested in it than many other news stories. Luckily you can go online and read the news that is of interest to you. 🤷‍♀️YABU

missfliss · 21/04/2021 10:15

I don't care either.

Not because I'm a woman - I just cannot understand how on earth the PM can miss Cobra meetings in the early critical stages of the Covid crisis, but can jump on a sport issue straight away...

Weird.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/04/2021 10:16

It's clearly of enough interest to have multiple threads about it yesterday and today

But in answer to your totally unnecessary question, you aren't unreasonable to care or not care about anything, why do you need to check with the internet?

Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2021 10:18

Yes you can care/not care about whatever you like but no need to get it officially validated. Unless you want people to change your mind I suppose...
Alsonification · 21/04/2021 10:20

I also care very much. As a woman and an Arsenal fan. Myself & my son have been reading about nothing else the last few days. I’m glad it’s all come to nothing but it was worrying & disappointing.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 21/04/2021 10:24

I wasnt allowed to play football at school because of my sex. So I dont care about anything football related.

edwinbear · 21/04/2021 10:25

I couldn't care less about football, but I cannot understand why people are so shocked that wealthy clubs have prioritised money ahead of the game/fans. For these big clubs, it's always been about money - charging extortionate prices for tickets/replica polyester kits etc.

What's made me livid this morning though, is watching all those football hooligans protesting last night whilst the police stood by and watched, yet when a group of women tried to protest on Clapham Common about a young woman being murdered, they tried to shut it down. I'm irrationally angry about the hypocrisy.

Bourbonic · 21/04/2021 10:25

You aren't being unreasonable to not care, but you're being massively unreasonable with your stupid statement of how most women won't care.

Who the fuck made you our spokesperson?

ilovesooty · 21/04/2021 10:33

What evidence is there that those who were protesting are "football hooligans"?

Bluesername · 21/04/2021 10:35

I'm not particularly interested in football, and usually switch off the sports news, but recognise that it is important to a lot of people. This has really shaken up the whole structure of the leagues and was driven by greed against the wishes of the fans. Thankfully the teams have swiftly pulled out again now.

BrumBoo · 21/04/2021 10:37

I didn’t say “all women” I said the “vast majority"

Which is still bollocks unless you can back it up. I have a passing interest in football, I can't name all the players in the Prem, but I was in a prediction league group until last year so know who's in form and such. It was a 60/40 men to women split group. I also live in a Prem Team area and most women are as fiercely supportive of the local team/as into the local rivalry as the men.

That's my experience though, I wouldn't be educated to guess if that was similar in other areas. Certainly in my case, most women have a level of interest in the footy.

I'm not even a woman and I don't give a fuck about overpaid twats and their wanky sport. I know plenty of other men who feel the same.
DrSbaitso · 21/04/2021 11:28

I've got no interest in football but the principles involved here are important.

Grognonne · 21/04/2021 11:29

It’s a drop in the ocean compared to the millions of stories about some American woman, married to an Englishman, who have had a family spat. This story has a huge impact on us, compared with the other.

singingsoprano · 21/04/2021 11:33

@GiveUsACwtch

As both a woman, and a football fan, I absolutely do give a toss!!
@GiveUsACwtch-Me too
torquewench · 21/04/2021 11:40

I dont like football and dont understand how its supporters say "we were robbed" "we played rubbish" as if they were also running around on the pitch with a load of millionaires, for clubs owned by billionaires. Also baffles me how they think the owners give a toss about local supporters when theres more money to be made from streaming matches to millions of people on PPV worldwide, opposed to tens of thousands of ticket sales for attendance, as matches have been played at empty grounds for the last 12 months and the "clubs" dont appear to have suffered financially.

melj1213 · 21/04/2021 11:45

I didn’t say “all women” I said the “vast majority"

Got any evidence to back up your bullshit statement?

I have been a football fan for pretty much my entire life and I know a lot of football fans and there are just as many female fans than male ones.

The problem is that they often aren't the most prominent because of judgement from women who think it is some sort of moral failure to care about sports and from men who feel threatened that women are interested in the same thing and so feel the need to gatekeep sports (I have never met a male football fan who hasn't felt the need to "test" my football knowledge in some way or another).

I used to be in an online Livejournal (those were the days) football community of 5000+ members that was 99% female because it was the one space where we weren't judged for daring to be a football fan and female. Since the demise of LJ, we all migrated to Twitter etc and my twitter feed is constantly full of football chat but the majority of it is from female fans.

araiwa · 21/04/2021 11:48

@torquewench

You seem to think that the 20 premier league's teams are the only ones who play football. There are 72 other professional teams in England and hundreds across Europe who have suffered massively. The premier League is the exception not the norm. Most of my clubs income comes from fans attending games. We get fuck all TV money

AryaStarkWolf · 21/04/2021 11:49

Bit sexist there OP

rainbowandglitter · 21/04/2021 11:54

I'm female and probably one of her biggest football fans you could ever meet. I cared deeply about this story. Its massive and would have impacts far wider than just the football community.

Call me a cynic but it's almost like the tories are trying to appeal to 'the common man' just in time for the upcoming local elections...

I live in a city with 2 premier league businesses teams, and that's the sum total of my knowledge of and interest in the game. So yeah, youre right [shrugs]
