So odd
It’s absolutely DOMINATING the news
The journalists are talking about “everybody” being appalled / having an opinion

Would I be correct in thinking that many many many women, in fact the vast majority, don’t give a toss?

OP posts:
WhenISnappedAndFarted · 21/04/2021 12:11

Lovely sexist comment there OP. A vast amount of women do care, myself included.

Vilanelle · 21/04/2021 12:14

the irony of this post

CruCru · 21/04/2021 12:16

The thing is, not a lot else is happening. The endless Coronavirus coverage probably isn’t doing the population much good and M&S Sue’s Aldi over a cake can’t go very far.

Everyday21 · 21/04/2021 12:19

I hate the topic of football. Money grabbing wankers, most of them! My dh and I disagree big time on football. We usually share similar opinions but my disgust at the money involved baffles him

ViciousJackdaw · 21/04/2021 12:23

So odd

No it isn't 'odd' at all. Why say that? There is nothing 'odd' about national news.

OK, you don't like the footy. Lots of women do and I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to speak on the subject on my behalf in the future.

CloudPop · 21/04/2021 12:42

@Timeforabiscuit

I've LOVED this story! I don't have a team I support, but when the story broke and the Super League had that token womens game line it hooked me.

I've truly enjoyed watching it all unfold (and collapse) and its made a brilliant topic of conversation that wasn't corona, brexit or Prince Philip!

I'm with you!
IamaBluebird · 21/04/2021 12:43

I do hope none of you go and watch any concerts, those money grabbing bastards, or watch any tennis the greedy gits.

WrapUpWarm2021 · 21/04/2021 12:44

Everyone in my family is very taken up with this (non) story.

It all happened years back and came to nothing. At some point it may happen.

I find it hard to care as top level football jumped the shark imo years back.

ForThePurposeOfTheTape · 21/04/2021 12:47

Even if women don't like footie, the households they live in may buy the new shirt every season, pay for sports channels etc so they are affected financially if this goes ahead.
I prefer the Colin the Caterpillar story but I welcome something new being the lead story

WrapUpWarm2021 · 21/04/2021 12:49

I too found the prime minister's energy around this proposal surprising and a massive contrast with the bumbling around in the early days of Covid.

WrapUpWarm2021 · 21/04/2021 12:55

@DynamoKev, might you get an new name?
I was assuming a footie fan.😄

Amelia666 · 21/04/2021 13:07

Yanbu op I seriously couldn’t give a shit personally.

I have an opinion because it was the only topic on the radio when I was wfh- I disagreed with the suer league but was wholly unsurprised re the “football clubs trying to get more money shocker”.

The whole thing collapsed within 24hrs (although I’d heard it mentioned ages ago unless I’m imagining things), so it just seemed weird and badly judged generally with a sudden extreme obsession/coverage on it then it almost immediately doesn’t happen anyway Hmm

AffronttoGender · 21/04/2021 13:11

YANBU to not give a fig.
YABU to care that much that it is dominating the News.

YABU if you are unable to simply not read the news on this.
Are you suggesting that the news on this should be cancelled?

MsTSwift · 21/04/2021 13:11

Totally agree. This worship of men’s sport 🙄. Agree it’s newsworthy but the treatment of it is ridiculous- first thing on news first thing on Jeremy vine talked about with such passion. Would women’s football be given such prominence? Think I know the answer to that 🙄🙄

bitheby · 21/04/2021 13:13

YABU - lots of women love football

by the way, women's football used to be huge. Until the male FA banned it.

VioletCharlotte · 21/04/2021 13:18

Yanbu not to care, but yabu to think it's not big news. Like it or but, football is a massive industry. My DS is really into football and has explained the impact this super league would have. It's not just about the clubs with the big money, the lower league teams would take a bashing too, clubs right down to grass roots level would be impacted.

Livpool · 21/04/2021 13:21

I am a woman and care very much about it. Surely it is just an example of people having different interests?!

TangledUp789 · 21/04/2021 13:23

I don’t really know anything about football, so I was curious why this was the main story on the news the other night. But reading up on it, it’s actually pretty interesting, and I’ve been following the fallout over the last couple of days. So I don’t think you have to be a football fan (or a man) to take an interest in a big story affecting this country at the moment.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 21/04/2021 13:28

YABU. It’s a huge deal and would have affected football in this country for years to come.

I’m glad my club pulled out, reading the media they were reluctant in the first place and don’t need the money that the ESL would have allegedly generated.

Women like football too, in fact it’s probably my biggest passion!

araiwa · 21/04/2021 13:34

Would women’s football be given such prominence? Think I know the answer to that 🙄🙄

No. But then no mention has been made of bury or Bolton who went bust. It's not a men/women's football thing. It's about elite football and bury and women's football aren't the elite

daisyjgrey · 21/04/2021 23:32

@Vilanelle

the irony of this post

S'alright, she was on another thread earlier taking the piss out of the OP for having too much time to reply to so many people, I think it's just that she's probably had an insufficient amount of weetabix this morning.

Feelingconfused2020 · 21/04/2021 23:56

I would be careful of making this a gender thing.

I couldn't care less but neither could my male son. My male husband and my female nother do care because they like and follow football.

Either way it infuriates me that it is dominating the news on the day of the George Floyd verdict. While.racism.in football is still such a huge issue.

Hate the sport myself. Would have seen it as a blessing if this super League nonsense had been the start of the end of football's domination. It's to blame for so much shitty stuff in the world.

araiwa · 22/04/2021 00:33

Please explain how football is the cause of so many problems across the world. [hmm]@Feelingconfused2020

MercyBooth · 22/04/2021 02:41

Wonder what slid under the radar while all the focus was on this.

Captpike · 22/04/2021 12:19

@CruCru

The thing is, not a lot else is happening. The endless Coronavirus coverage probably isn’t doing the population much good and M&S Sue’s Aldi over a cake can’t go very far.
There are multiple elections happening right now
