To think I should report this

DS (16) told me tonight that him and a few of his classmates are in a Snapchat group chat with their GCSE geography teacher and they’ve asked her to give them good “predicted grades” this year.

I didn’t see the messages but I believe she has agreed to give them good grades and to “not worry” if they aren’t engaging with classwork.

AIBU to report this? I obviously want my DS to do well but I can’t stand back and watch him get a high grade if he doesn’t deserve it. I also don’t want the teacher in question to lose her job

I think I'd want to see the messages first.

WombatStewForTea · 20/04/2021 22:22

The Snapchat group is massively inappropriate and needs reporting

Poppydex · 20/04/2021 22:23

Snapchat group chat with a teacher? Is that even allowed?

shouldistop · 20/04/2021 22:24

Tbf the snap chat group might not exist. Teenagers have been known to talk shit once or twice.

Mumwithapub · 20/04/2021 22:25

What kind of teacher joins a Snapchat group with her pupils? Not really appropriate IMO. She needs to maintain a professional distance. Maybe you could point this out to her directly before it gets out of hand on many levels.

Leeds2 · 20/04/2021 22:25

I would ask to see what had been said first.

But a Snapchat group with pupils and a teacher is, I think, inappropriate.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/04/2021 22:27

I wouldn't report anything without seeing the messages.

This.
1Morewineplease · 20/04/2021 22:34

This goes against everything that school staff have been trained about.
You need to report this, it's totally unprofessional.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/04/2021 22:37

Is it really a teacher? Isn't it someone pulling their leg? I don't know how snapchat works

Blueemeraldagain · 20/04/2021 22:37

If the Snapchat messages are gone (and I think they will be unless someone has screenshot) I would inquire as you’d hope no teacher (I am one) would do something so, so stupid but, as the rare stories prove, they do.

I think your DS’s reaction to you inquiring would be revealing.

Whatever you do, do not contact the teacher directly! Go for the Form Tutor, Head of Year, Head of Department, whoever seems most logical to you.

Interviewedundercaution · 20/04/2021 22:39

This would be in breach of the code of conduct for teachers.

Bluntness100 · 20/04/2021 22:40

Lol I think you should ask to see the messages. 😂

Yup, either some kids set up a fake profile and having them on, or the kid is bullshitting. 😂
SneezyGonzalez · 20/04/2021 22:42

None of this makes sense to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Andbearsohmy · 20/04/2021 22:43

I'd say it's more likely a snapchat account set up by a student, using the teachers name. I would tell the school though- if one of my students made an account in my name, I would want to know.

If it is actually the teacher's snapchat, then the school need to know as it's unprofessional and the teacher should really know better. Most schools have a policy forbidding this.

Panic over. Turns out it actually is another Student who has pretended to be this teacher and set up a fake name. The student behind this account has also posted offensive things on the accounts “Snapchat story”

Ha ok then. Teenagers....

I would still give the school a heads up. I’d be gutted if that was happening under my name.

I think they definitely should be told. The individual behind it isn’t a nice person from what I’ve heard and he is posting very nasty messages under this teacher’s name

Lupinhere37 · 20/04/2021 23:00

Definitely report to the school; that poor teacher. Some teenagers are really vile. But please make your DS screenshot and then send to you, as I believe the “snaps” don’t hang around for long. I think that’s part of the attraction but evidence may be needed or the culprit will get away with it.

MissMaple82 · 20/04/2021 23:00

I'm doing my GCSEs at college a.d were in a group with the tutor amd he has told us not to worry, we will all be passing! No you shouldn't report it, there's noting untoward. The rules are completely different this year

goldielockdown2 · 20/04/2021 23:04

Think your son is fibbing Grin have you been on his case about school work?

goldielockdown2 · 20/04/2021 23:05

Whoops, just read the update. Sorry!
