To think I should report this

DS (16) told me tonight that him and a few of his classmates are in a Snapchat group chat with their GCSE geography teacher and they’ve asked her to give them good “predicted grades” this year.

I didn’t see the messages but I believe she has agreed to give them good grades and to “not worry” if they aren’t engaging with classwork.

AIBU to report this? I obviously want my DS to do well but I can’t stand back and watch him get a high grade if he doesn’t deserve it. I also don’t want the teacher in question to lose her job

I have rang the school and asked to speak to the HT as a matter of urgency.

You really need to report this to the school. Other children may not realise it is fake, and it is a dreadful situation for anyone to be in. If you are concerned about your own child's safety from this vile character then tell the school that too, and say it cannot be traced back to your family in any way. SLT or the safeguarding lead at the school should be more than capable of handling this, so report to them, not the teacher involved.

Cross over! Well done OP.

Well done, I hope they call you back soon
paralysedbyinertia · 21/04/2021 15:21

Definitely report it, even if you feel the need to do so anonymously. The teacher in question has a right to know that someone is using their name.

Hopefully, it will be a good lesson to your ds not to trust that people online are who they say they are.

paralysedbyinertia · 21/04/2021 15:21

X post, well done OP.

Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 15:23

They say the HT will probably call me before 5pm as he is in a meeting right now.

@memberofthewedding

Well this is one problem with "predicted" grades and continuous assessment. They are dumbed down results and unfair to the people who really have put in the time and effort to achieve a good grade. If I were sitting exams and heard of somesuch I would be very angry to think that others would end up on a par with me in their results.
It’s not true anyway. This teacher isn’t actually doing that. It’s a student pretending to be her.

You didn’t need to do that. It is easy to make mistakes.

Just report anonymously if you’re worried about repercussions and don’t let your ds know it was you yet.

Allwokedup · 21/04/2021 15:38

No teacher would ever be in a snap chat group chat with their class. They would use google classroom or email.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 21/04/2021 15:52

@Daisiesarecute

It’s not really something I want to get involved in tbh.
Well, when your kid and the rest of the class all have their results nullified because somebody has heard and reported to the exam boards that there has been 'cheating, not realising it's a fake account, you won't mind, then?
Blueemeraldagain · 21/04/2021 16:56

Thank you for reporting it OP. I can appreciate your reluctance if the student involved is a nasty piece of work but you have taken steps to protect an innocent teacher doing her best (by your description) in trying times.

Also, please ignore all the posters who can’t be arsed to even read all the OP’s posts before launching in.
