To think I should report this

DS (16) told me tonight that him and a few of his classmates are in a Snapchat group chat with their GCSE geography teacher and they’ve asked her to give them good “predicted grades” this year.

I didn’t see the messages but I believe she has agreed to give them good grades and to “not worry” if they aren’t engaging with classwork.

AIBU to report this? I obviously want my DS to do well but I can’t stand back and watch him get a high grade if he doesn’t deserve it. I also don’t want the teacher in question to lose her job

@MissMaple82

I'm doing my GCSEs at college a.d were in a group with the tutor amd he has told us not to worry, we will all be passing! No you shouldn't report it, there's noting untoward. The rules are completely different this year

Report it. The school needs to know that a student has been setting up bogus accounts to pass themselves off as a teacher. This behaviour could cause serious damage to the teacher and the student needs to be held accountable.

Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 14:29

I think it should be reported. He also set up a fake Facebook in her name and is posting explicit things

FFS! Either bugger off and take your Teen Tales with you or report this to the school NOW!

imalmostthere · 21/04/2021 14:34

So you now know it's a student - of course you need to report it!!! That poor teacher!!!

Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 14:34

It’s not really something I want to get involved in tbh.

Remember that when a teacher helps your DC. Maybe when that teacher runs into problems because of this!

Maybe just be an adult and help protect the dignity and career of another adult!

And then you say It’s not really something I want to get involved in tbh.

How would you like it if someone was compromising your professional reputation but the adults involved who could shut it down didn't want to get involved? Why on earth did you start this thread in the first place if you're not prepared to do anything about it?

Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 14:52

I started the thread because at the start I was made to believe it was the teacher that was actually in the group chat with her students and planning on falsifying her students grades.

If I do report, how much trouble would this student get into?

HollowTalk · 21/04/2021 14:54

FFS put yourself in the teacher's shoes. Someone is impersonating them online and you know who it is. Be an adult and report it to the school now.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/04/2021 14:55

@Daisiesarecute I don't know how much trouble but you really can't let this go on. Even though the teacher is innocent, her reputation could be seriously tarnished as you know what the rumour mill is like. This needs shutting down ASAP

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/04/2021 14:55

Hopefully a lot.

Are you apprehensive because it's your kid who did it?

FOJN · 21/04/2021 14:55

It’s not really something I want to get involved in tbh.

But you are here asking if you should report it. Apparently you wanted to get involved if it meant getting a teacher into trouble but since finding out its a pupil causing trouble for the teacher you're not interested in getting involved to protect the teacher, lovely.

Ted27 · 21/04/2021 14:56

@Daisiesarecute

are you going to report it?

I work in teacher misconduct in the Dept for Education - this could have very serious consequences for the teacher if someone does believe its them

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/04/2021 14:56

Report it. It could cause the teacher huge problems.

Ted27 · 21/04/2021 14:57

@Daisiesarecute

why would you be happy for the teacher to get into trouble and not the student

the student should quite rightly get into a whole heap of trouble

Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 14:59

Because this student is aggressive and I err on the side or caution in case he found it was me and tried to harm DS in revenge.

OP posts:
Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 15:01

I do want to report it, but I’m hesitant for that reason that I said. I was shocked when I found out that she was allegedly in a social media group chat with her students because I have spoken to her in the past and she always seemed so lovely and sensible

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/04/2021 15:04

Then do it anonymously and tell the HT that you are doing so because you fear reprisals.

The facebook page etc will be easy enough to find, but they have to know to look!

Give the HT ALL the information you have, name, facebook link, Snapchat screenshots anything. And whatever happens to the teen you fear will not be your fault. They need to be stopped.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/04/2021 15:08

I agree, I'm not usually for anonymous reporting but in this case it's better than nothing. Find the FB page and screenshot it.

Daisiesarecute · 21/04/2021 15:10

I don’t know why this student dislikes the teacher enough to do this. She is lovely and supportive

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/04/2021 15:14

You don't have to. What you do know is that he is putting her career in jeopardy.

PLEASE, make a fake email account and report this to the HT.

Or, as I said before, take your Teen Tales elsewhere!

Ted27 · 21/04/2021 15:14

Just report it ffs

FOJN · 21/04/2021 15:16

She is lovely and supportive

No need to do the right thing, it sounds like you could be a great character witness if she faces disciplinary action because a student set up fake accounts in her name and posted unprofessional, offensive crap.

Etinox · 21/04/2021 15:17

dial 141 then the school number
