Does anyone else feel 'meh' on Sunday afternoons?

It starts at around 4pm. That feeling of dread, that monday and the working week is around the corner - it's all going to start again.

The world feels shut down after the supermarkets shut at 4pm and the traffic gets quieter. It's like the atmosphere is subdued as it gets ready to reset.

I've felt like this on Sundays ever since school, and strangely I didn't feel it on Friday nights when I used to work weekends. It's only ever on Sundays. Is it just me?

I feel the same. But I don't work Monday. My partner hates his job and I feel his sadness on Sunday afternoon.

aretherereally4Hs · 11/04/2021 16:39

Yup, even worse tonight as we've been off for Easter 😞

WaltzesWithSnobs · 11/04/2021 16:40

I feel a bit flat this afternoon. But it could be because I woke at 4:30am for the day.

AnneElliott · 11/04/2021 16:40

I feel it to - even though I love my job and im on leave next week! I think maybe it's an overhang from Sunday afternoons as a child where there wasn't anything to do and school in the morning!

@aretherereally4Hs I completely agree!! Returning back tomorrow is giving me extra Sunday night feels after the 2 week break

hennybeans · 11/04/2021 16:41

DH always says it's the dark tea time of the soul. So I guess he feels the same!

JennyBond · 11/04/2021 16:42

Yes. It’s that back to school feeling only it’s even worse with work.

User135644 · 11/04/2021 16:42

I just feel listless on Sunday afternoons now because i've been stuck at home all week anyway. Ordinarily, I like the wind down.

FreeFallingFree · 11/04/2021 16:42

Yes, and a slight nagging guilt that I haven't done my homework. Odd, because I'm in my forties and actually quite like my job.

PicsInRed · 11/04/2021 16:44

It's because all options are removed at 4pm on Sunday. It's rubbish.

It will be great if the while contrived 4pm Sunday closing is swept away with the end of covid.

Itstartedinbarcelona · 11/04/2021 16:45

Yep, I have alternate Mondays off as I do compressed hours so the Sunday before my working Monday I always feel like that. This week is even worse as I’m feeling rubbish after my vaccine and DH and the kids are off next week.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 11/04/2021 16:47

Oh yes, i have found my people. Me and DH have been saying this for years!

Yeah I agree with this. Everything is forced shut and you can't do much, other than sit at home I guess. I always found Sundays after 4pm totally boring when I was young, you'd maybe go out somewhere in the morning or for lunch, then it was home for baths and getting your uniform ready for the morning, never anything decent on tv that I recall. Although at the moment there's line of duty so I'm actually loving Sunday evenings lately!
AdoptedBumpkin · 11/04/2021 16:48

Sometimes, but I tend to brighten up a bit in the evening.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 11/04/2021 16:48

No, but I plan my working week so that Mondays and Fridays are my quietest days Grin

I'm super quiet at work this week as it's school holidays so I'm only working three days - it's bliss!

Yamaya · 11/04/2021 16:49

I always get this. I have a bad Sunday afternoon /evening feeling. Of anxiety or sadness. I also remember the feeling of school the next day and I haven't done my homework! It's not work I'm dreading though because I'm a SAHM. Who knows why I get it.

AdoptedBumpkin · 11/04/2021 16:49

@SylviaPlath1984 I nearly mentioned LOD in my post. Only four hours and ten minutes to go! Grin

See you on the LOD thread at 8:55pm 😂 apparently tonight is a big episode, I'm irrationally excited lol

Smokeahontas · 11/04/2021 16:51

I don’t usually, but I really do today. Trying to get my house ready for sale & I’ve been trying to get things sorted since Good Friday. Even when I went back to work after the easter break, I was eating a very quick dinner and then continuing.

HollyGoLight · 11/04/2021 16:52

I’m in Scotland and everything doesn’t shut here at 4pm. But I still feel the pain. Hate Sunday evenings

CounsellorTroi · 11/04/2021 16:53

Not now that I'm retired, and to be fair not with the job I retired from, but in previous jobs absolutely yes. Sunday evenings are lovely now I know they aren't my last chance of a bit of relaxation before the working week starts.

Meezer2 · 11/04/2021 16:53

Yes I have this.... 'Sunday evening doom'
Means I can't enjoy sundays unfortunately. Started for me when I was at school too

AdoptedBumpkin · 11/04/2021 16:53

@SylviaPlath1984 I'll try to log on!

Therealjudgejudy · 11/04/2021 16:56

Yep...aka 'The Sunday Scaries'
