Does anyone else feel 'meh' on Sunday afternoons?

It starts at around 4pm. That feeling of dread, that monday and the working week is around the corner - it's all going to start again.

The world feels shut down after the supermarkets shut at 4pm and the traffic gets quieter. It's like the atmosphere is subdued as it gets ready to reset.

I've felt like this on Sundays ever since school, and strangely I didn't feel it on Friday nights when I used to work weekends. It's only ever on Sundays. Is it just me?

I completely understand this. My own mother was a bitch every Sunday. The whole Sunday School, making a roast, reading the papers, getting ready for the next week, weekly hair wash created a tsunami of poison that ran through the entire day and evenning.......

Bootskates · 11/04/2021 17:00

I'm feeling it too.

Used to get it every Sunday night when I was younger, the theme tune of Heartbeat gave me a feeling of utter dread. I was ok when I got to school though!

MarshaBradyo · 11/04/2021 17:02

I love Sunday afternoons and evening

But I have a problem with travelling on a Sunday due to school

If I’m home, fine, nice even

MizMoonshine · 11/04/2021 17:03

It's an all day event on Sunday.
I just feel deeply unhappy unless I'm doing something to keep me occupied.
Any other day of the week I can be sat doing nothing and I'm quite content. But Sunday is a misery of a day.

MarshaBradyo · 11/04/2021 17:03

However I wfh in my own thing so if I had proper work I’d agree

Mimilamore · 11/04/2021 17:05

Best thing about retiring, not getting that feeling anymore, has taken a while to shake it off though. 4pm was my cue to feel down and I was always anxious to get back if we were out...Spoilt the weekend

garlictwist · 11/04/2021 17:06

I like to be home from whatever I'm doing by five pm on a Sunday so I can have my enforced spiral into despair.

To be fair it's not been nearly as bad now I'm working from home but I'm sure it will return with a vengeance when I'm sent back to the office!

MadgeHarvyy · 11/04/2021 17:08

I used to hate when the Heartbeat theme tune came on on a sunday evening.. that feeling of dread that it was almost bath time then bed for school in the morning!

Spied · 11/04/2021 17:09

Awful, claustrophobic feeling on a Sunday.
Nothing is properly enjoyable.

Oh you've just given me the strongest flashback! This was my childhood lol
maddiemookins16mum · 11/04/2021 17:10

We used to call it ‘the Songs of Praise’ feeling. But I really like my job so don’t dread Mondays and enjoy spending time with my funny, friendly colleagues (I’m full time office based). Plus, one Monday is done, your fast heading to another Friday.

Coldwinterahead1 · 11/04/2021 17:15

I hate the Antiques Roadshow theme tune.

8bitgame · 11/04/2021 17:15

Totally. But a big part is I don't really like my job ATM.

Also - I've had a week off for Easter so it's worse than normal today :(

GreyhoundLurcher · 11/04/2021 17:16

Yeah, Songs Of Praise...........

LemonSherbetFancies · 11/04/2021 17:17

Yes. Used to hate it when I was young and also now as an adult. Sunday afternoon is when DP or I have to go back to our respective homes and/or I had to go to work the next day and/or face another week of unemployment and drudgery.

the80sweregreat · 11/04/2021 17:17

I've always hated Sunday's.
The tv is usually rubbish and it also drags.
When I was a teen I used to dread it as I knew school was looming ahead too.

NichyNoo · 11/04/2021 17:18

I have this too - started when I was at primary school. The smell of a roast dinner cooking makes me want to cry.

1FootInTheRave · 11/04/2021 17:18

Same.

I hate sundays.

MadMadMadamMim · 11/04/2021 17:20

Yes.

And I said to DH the other week, this has just felt like a whole year of Sundays.

I'm bored, fed up - nothing open, nothing to do, nowhere to go.

lollipoprainbow · 11/04/2021 17:20

Yes !!! I'm fine Sunday morning and lunchtime but get really depressed about 2pm felt like this for years.

HOkieCOkie · 11/04/2021 17:21

Yes absolutely!! Even more so during the pandemic.

GreyhoundLurcher · 11/04/2021 17:23

NichtNoo - I get it. I hate roast dinners - now I know why!!!!

Horridcreature · 11/04/2021 17:24

Agree. I live alone, pre Covid would sometimes go to a restaurant just to be out of the house on Sunday night - took a magazine or a book. My

Marmaladesandwiches27 · 11/04/2021 17:29

I often get this feeling, and sadly I woke up feeling this way this morning so have been stuck in a bit of a slump all day Sad does anyone have any tips to get yourself out of the pit of 'meh'-ness?

I was just coming to say this! Heartbeat and London's Burning. Compulsory bath and hair wash. School bag packed.

Sunday wasn't a day off. It was a day of prep.
