To think Friends Reunion show is pointless?

Sightforsoreeyez · 11/04/2021 12:44

I loved Friends, watched the episodes a billion times, grew up watching it.

I just don’t care about a reunion where it’s behind the scenes footage, the set recreated and the cast talking about it.

I’d love a one off episode (an hour long) where they actually play their characters and we see how their lives turned out ... jobs, marriages, children,

Then don't watch it.

I'm sure a lot of people are looking forward to it

Ohdoleavemealone · 11/04/2021 12:47

I agree. I thought the reunion was going to be a fast forward 15 years.

Not interested in the proposed "catch up".

VladmirsPoutine · 11/04/2021 12:48

I always thought Friends was a terrible show to begin with. But you don't have to watch it. It's really here nor there.

SprogletsMum · 11/04/2021 12:49

They did the same with the inbetweeners and it was dire. So boring.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 12:49

It wouldn't interest me. I thought Friends was good at the time, but it's not aged that well and all of the characters are flawed and very irritating upon analysis.

Oh yes, I enjoy watching Jimmy and Greg on other shows but that was painful!
GreenClock · 11/04/2021 12:52

Iagree - I’d have preferred a special episode featuring the characters in middle-age with their grown children featuring.

Sightforsoreeyez · 11/04/2021 12:53

Well I probably won’t watch it. But as a show I enjoyed and a reunion being really hyped up then I feel am I ok to discuss it Confused

I felt most Friends fans would want an actual episode rather than an interview.

Some things should be just left to be. Same with Sex in the City - a terrible show but just appreciate it for what it was - not what it could be.

UhtredRagnarson · 11/04/2021 12:54

Totally agree with you. It’s such a let down of an idea. Do a proper reunion show.

peak2021 · 11/04/2021 12:57

I won't be watching.

It's a show of its time, and should be left there.

Same. Like Emma, Ben and the twins. The other children they may have had.

They could have done it would a vowel renewal for Monica and Chandler or have Ross and Rachel get married. Joey moved to LA so did he ever move back .. did Phoebe and Mike have children.

I don’t see what a real episode could not have been done.

I wouldn't want to see any of that. Middle aged Friends? No thanks. The whole point of the show was it was a snapshot of where these young people were in their lives, dating, going out and, well being a young group of friends all living near to each other and congregating at Central Perk.

ThePontiacBandit · 11/04/2021 13:20

I’m not sure a reunion show would work. So many have been awful - This life, Gilmore Girls spring to mind. Reunion chats are okay but never great (Buffy springs to mind with that one). I think as much as everyone says they want to have an update they never live up to the hype.

Troublewaters2021 · 11/04/2021 13:23

The likely hood of the children having there own children would be slim they are 16-19 apart from Ben.

Troublewaters2021 · 11/04/2021 13:24

Sorry mis read your last comment 😂

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 13:24

I always think the good thing about shows finishing (and Friends really did finish at the right time, there wasn't anywhere left to go with it really) is that you can decide for yourself what happened.
I wonder if any of them would still be together.

MabelPines · 11/04/2021 13:30

Yeah I’m another that would have preferred a proper one off show - not the cast chat , I’m not really interested in the cast, they are good actors and all but I don’t know them , I’m interested in the characters!!

ElderMillennial · 11/04/2021 13:32

I was excited for the reunion but I assumed it was going to be an actual episode

Maybe a film would be better but not sure that would work for Friends

VenusTiger · 11/04/2021 13:38

Where can you watch it in UK anyway OP?

Sightforsoreeyez · 11/04/2021 14:02

I think theyve only only started filming it? But it was hyped up a year ago but delayed due to the pandemic.

Nah. It was of it's time. I LOVE Friends and still re-watch but I really don't think a programme showing them all in their mid-forties would work at all.

I don’t see why not? We’re not talking about a film or even a new series. We’re talking about a one off episode where they have the material there to create something interesting and funny.

Also a show of its time? Well it’s gained a new audience from Gen Z watching Netflix so it’s not been left behind.

Yes it should have had more diversity however you can’t change that now but a new episode could be more inclusive of the main cast plus other ethnicities and also in writing and production.

Totally agree. The characters were young and did stupid things, to see them middle aged and doing the same would be most Hmm. Monica still shrieking about cleanliness with her teenagers? Would Joey still be 'How you doin'? as a middle aged man. Creepy.
MabelPines · 11/04/2021 14:45

So I’ve been amusinf myself for an hour or so thinking what they would be like now and there is so much scope! You could have Rachel as a fashion blogger, Monica and Chandler running a YouTube channel focused on her recipes and healthy eating/exercise, Pheobe joining extinction rebellion, Ross doing a dating blog/insta daddy, and Joey finding lots of work recording erotic audiobooks .

Any other ideas ?
