To think Friends Reunion show is pointless?

Sightforsoreeyez · 11/04/2021 12:44

I loved Friends, watched the episodes a billion times, grew up watching it.

I just don’t care about a reunion where it’s behind the scenes footage, the set recreated and the cast talking about it.

I’d love a one off episode (an hour long) where they actually play their characters and we see how their lives turned out ... jobs, marriages, children,

What I thought it was a special feature length episode not an interview! Ohhhh rubbish!!!

folloyourarro · 11/04/2021 16:02

@Sightforsoreeyez I thought the Will and Grace return worked really well, except for the crappy oh it was all a dream device but then that got rid of the kids which is probably why it worked 😂

PhillipPhillop · 11/04/2021 16:03

Episode is an odd word to use for a one-off interview

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 11/04/2021 16:05

Yes, I thought it would be a one off episode too, how crap if it isn't!

I have been watching Friends loads recently on Netflix and I still properly laugh out loud at it! But I definitely never realised at the time what a complete prick Ross was to Rachel!

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 16:06

@MrsFin

all of the characters are flawed and very irritating upon analysis

Isn't that the basis for lots of comedies?

Probably but with the passage of time and a rewatch I see the whole thing so differently. What seemed funny at the time now seems irritating IYKWIM. I remember being somewhat fond of the characters but now not so much.
lolacola77 · 11/04/2021 16:08

I hated Friends but even I think a proper 15yrs later show would be better. Although remember the This Life dire reunion....

ChessieFL · 11/04/2021 16:09

I’m looking forward to the proposed reunion. I’m glad they’re not trying to do a new episode as I don’t think it would work for the reasons already given on the thread.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 16:09

So how close minded do you have to be to think something you’ve never watched, have no experience in writing or acting “wouldn’t work”

I think I can live with people thinking I am being closed minded about an old comedy show on the telly TBF.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 11/04/2021 16:10

@iwishiwasatcentralperk

sunflower ok, apologies for not being completly accurate, what I should have said was Friends was a show about 20-30 year olds living in New York......

The main point was, that it wasn't a show about married couples with kids, the scriptwriters themselves have said that.

I don't think that's aimed at me Grin

I was agreeing with you - it was OP who said otherwise.

People are allowed their opinions - they're not close minded just because they disagree with you Hmm

WeeWillyWanky · 11/04/2021 16:14

I would watch it, if only for the plastic surgery.

Oh well then why are you commenting if this is clearly so beneath you.

I think it’s closed minded if a concept hasn’t even been created, so you have no idea what a one off episode would even be about.

Just saying flat out that it wouldn’t work when you have no details or insight then that to me is close minded.

Confused

All I am saying is that there's important things to not be closed minded about but a tv comedy show isn't one of them. I had an opinion because you asked AIBU on a thread on MN. That's all. I am sorry if it's not the right one in your view.

That was what was sad about the 2016 reunion. Monica looked so different where as the others just looked older.

Well, isn't it obvious what it would be about? It would be about the characters 15-20 years down the line, and I have no interest in that. I loved FRIENDS for what it was - there's no need for a re-make or a reunion "update" show.

I'm really not a fan of re-makes or updates on old shows/films in general, though. I just don't see the point in them at all - why not make a totally different programme about people in their 40's/50's instead?

But apparently that makes me close-minded Grin

We could even share some cheesecake from Mama's Little Bakery! I trust you're carrying around a fork?

Are you ok hun? You’ve spent a lot of time being snarky on this thread. It’s concerning. Maybe get some fresh air.

Me @Sightforsoreeyez? I’m fine thanks. Smile
How about you?

MumofSpud · 11/04/2021 16:48

I thought the reunion was going to be an episode seeing what they were up to now 'The one where they are all old....' Shock

It does seem pointless that the actors will be sitting around reminiscing.

Coming from the person who's been snippy with everyone who disagrees with them and has told them that they're close-minded Grin

Are YOU okay?

Well I wasn’t asking you babe because I don’t care if you’re ok or not - so don’t concern yourself with me.
