BBC coverage of death of DoE

It's too much!!!!! Yes have a tribute but nonstop coverage is excessive. I have just had to turn from radio 4 to Radio Scotland to World Service to try and find a DoE free station. In vain!!! Turned to Radio 2 and got mournful Winkleman playing dreary sad tunes and reading out sad messages from listeners. I really think the national broadcaster ought to be mindful of the pandemic and not overload us with sadness at this time. Prince Philip has come to the end of his natural life at the age of 99. It's sad but it's not a tragedy. Does anybody else agree?

All these threads about how the coverage is too much, are too much.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 10/04/2021 10:38

you dont say op,
please dont start another thread about the subject

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/04/2021 10:39

Ha!

MyNameForToday1980 · 10/04/2021 10:40

Ha, you just wait 'til the Queen dies...I forget the specifics, but we're in for weeks and weeks of solemn media scheduling.

I wholly agree with you. A very elderly man dying in comfort is not a tragedy. Of course it's terribly sad for his family, and I feel for them in their loss.

Frownette · 10/04/2021 10:40

It's only been a day, it'll die down soon. It's more commemorative than anything else.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 10/04/2021 10:41

You really haven’t seen the dozens of other threads on this?

Frownette · 10/04/2021 10:43

One thing which comes across is that a lot of posters really, really dislike having their viewing interrupted Grin

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 10/04/2021 10:44

Register your discontent here, not on MN

There are so many radio and TV channels you can choose from, to say nothing of subscription and streaming services. Could you really not find some way to entertain yourself for what was realistically around 10 hours?

KoalaOok · 10/04/2021 10:46

What is the point of asking if anyone else agrees? Surely you know some people do.

Wellpark · 10/04/2021 10:46

Actually I haven't seen the other threads 😂 but I think I'm allowed to start one just like complainers above are allowed not to read it 👌

AbsolutelyPatsy · 10/04/2021 10:46

@Frownette Grin

although perhaps regarding Claudia Winkleman i might too get fed up and agree that considering it is a pandemic people might be sad enough anyway, at least he didnt die earlier in the year,
things are opening up on monday yay

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 10/04/2021 10:46

Why not just turn off your TV (or radio) and do something more interesting instead?

Wellpark · 10/04/2021 10:47

Yes thank God things are opening up very soon

YABU just watch Netflix or catch up. Confused

Wellpark · 10/04/2021 10:48

What a lot of snarky boots there seem to be on MN.

OP posts:
BlackberrySky · 10/04/2021 10:48

What's worse is the massive number of MN threads about how the coverage is too much! I would expect it on TV but hope not to have wall to wall threads on here. Did you not think to do a quick search first to see if perhaps anyone else might have already raised this?

sunflowersandbuttercups · 10/04/2021 10:49

Does your TV not come with an off button, then?
CalicoKate · 10/04/2021 10:50

Putting the same programming about d of e on bbc1 and 2 at the same time was unnecessary yesterday. Royal fans don't need the same thing on both channels at once.

Herbie0987 · 10/04/2021 10:50

Even non BBC radio stations were doing there own tributes.
It is a sad time for a family, you can always switch off

Roominmyhouse · 10/04/2021 10:50

There are too many threads on this but yes OP I agree!

You lost me with the little crying with laughter emoji.
CalicoKate · 10/04/2021 10:51

Why do people click on threads they aren't interested in and comment on them? Must be bored

Hophopandaway · 10/04/2021 10:51

Some people really struggle to search on this site. Much better to have multiple threads on the same topic the op is trying to ignore.

Wellpark · 10/04/2021 10:52

To those who have taken the trouble to reply without being sarcastic, thanks for your input. To those other snarky ones, I am glad not to have to know you in real life. Mind you I bet you are not confrontational to real people. Save it all for MN.
