Inspired by the other FND thread, I now want to re-watch this tonight. What's the best series?

The best episode has to be the dead fox one.

My favourite episode is Saul's funeral, in particular the speech! So funny!

Oneeyeopen · 10/04/2021 22:01

I love the episode where Jackie's mum gets casserole spilt on her trousers. She answers the door with the boys and Jim stares in disbelief as Wilson licks Grandma's crotch.

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 10/04/2021 22:07

There are so many perfectly executed moments. I laugh so hard I can barely breathe, even after seeing them all a few times. DH and I copy all of Martin’s swears, plus “GOD! Lunatic!” at every opportunity.

Personal favourites that get me every time are the bag in the tree, Martin getting bitten on the penis while he’s having a wee, when Martin refers to his own mother as Horrible Grandma, of course the frozen fox, the Mercedes (“I just kissed her breasts a little!”), the one with the other Jackie (“they were Jews!” 😂), and the one where Grandma is locked in with the yoghurts and the fish under the stairs. I want to rewatch the whole thing now!

I’ve loved Tamsin Greig since Black Books, Paul Ritter is such a huge loss.

longtompot · 10/04/2021 22:09

I imagine making any more episodes after Paul Ritters passing would be a bit like the episodes of 10 things you should know before dating my daughter. The actor playing the dad died and they incorporated it into the series so the dad died and it was how his family went on without him. It wasn't the same.

Shit on it.

GreenSlide · 10/04/2021 22:15

Oh I also love the one where Jonny and Adam drive to grandmas house to give her back something (her glasses) and Jonny gives Adam a wedgie and rips off his trousers and they have to walk home semi dressed Grin

The last episode they made felt like an ending anyway, I hope they don't make any more.

@magicstar1

Oh no, I didn’t know Wilson dies. I’m not looking forward to that one as I’ve a GSD at home Sad

It's nice the way they do it. Sad but not too schmaltzy.

JustDanceAddict · 10/04/2021 22:22

Jim
Coming for dinner - when he cuts the yarmulke out of his shirt. I pmsl at that.

OverByYer · 10/04/2021 22:25

It would be a fitting tribute to Paul Ritter I’d they made a one off special for him with a bonkers funeral

JustDanceAddict · 10/04/2021 22:29

Lovely bit of squirrel 🐿

Yes! I couldn't breathe for laughing!
Crikeymalikey · 10/04/2021 23:39

I love every episode!
Just watched Jackies ‘surprise’ party, quiet sue and Sarah who did the curtains, I laugh out loud so much at this show.
My two boys love it too!
Poor Paul Ritter, we love Martin!

8 Simple Rules was actually one of my favourite shows growing up, I loved it. I think I've seen them all about 5 times. Coincidentally, the actor who played the dad also had the surname Ritter. He was John Ritter. But "shit on it" has became a regular phrase in my vocabulary.
Bloodypunkrockers · 10/04/2021 23:56

@Okbye

Bloody punk rocker!
Smile
IncorrigibleTitmouse · 11/04/2021 00:40

@SaltedCarmel John Ritter also died at age 54, same as Paul Ritter. Far too young. Very sad.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 11/04/2021 00:47

I love the Big Carrot one, and the one where Val ends up in the dog crate and Martin runs around shouting "CHRIIIIIISST!" just cracks me up. I think it's so ridiculous but also close enough that you recognise it. I told my brother to watch it as our dad is bonkers too. Grin

Sparklesocks · 11/04/2021 00:48

I love the sarcastic piano tuner, when he rings asking where the fire extinguisher is and ruins their evening Grin

I’ve read some lovely tributes to Paul Ritter this week. Clearly he was a very well respected actor in his field and loved by many. What a loss.

Misshapencha0s · 11/04/2021 00:50

Saul's funeral is my favourite. Also aibu to have a crush on Johnny?

dudsville · 11/04/2021 01:02

Has anyone ever read about what Jim's working back story was? It's dark and explains why he was an unsettling character.

CarrieCat · 11/04/2021 07:58

He had a small part in one of my absolute favourite films, Son of Rambow..(Not a Rambo film) Love that film. Jessica Hynes was good in it too

No I'd be interested to though

No, but I'd love to hear about it. Could you summarise @dudsville? Please and thank you 😊
CarrieCat · 11/04/2021 10:29

I'm trying to think what it could be and imagining he might have had a very weird, smothering mum. All I can think of

brushandmop · 11/04/2021 10:32

The first episode is not the first one that was filmed - the second episode 'Jingle' was.
Jim is different in this one and his character was changed shortly afterwards. Jingle has a different feel to the other episodes as it was the pilot.

Favourite episodes are 'The Fox' and 'The Violin'
Love Aunty Val! Don't know what episode it is but I love when Jim calls her and Jackie 'Twins'. The episode "Dad’s Birthday" is so sad now, Martin was talking about when he will die and he's upset he never gets to go into space.

OhWhyNot · 11/04/2021 10:38

The Fox
The Mercedes
The Two Tony’s

I love them all and we have watched them over and over again ds favourites are the ones with Mr Morris in
