Union Flag

For once i am shocked into silence, just read that there are calls for Morrisons supermarket to be boycotted because the have products in Union flag packaging. It would seem somewimps people are so pathetic that the feel "intimidated" by our countries flag. FFS what a bloody feeble nation Britain has become, it is not as though we wrap goods in a Swastika. If the Union flag is so scary bugger off and live somewhere else, just make sure their flag is not a naughty one.

The micro aggressions in your post are ridiculous.

Grow up, fool.

orangecinnamon · 09/04/2021 22:40

@unexpectedthird

Look, everyone getting worked up by flags is ignoring the most important part of this whole (non) event.

Is it, or is it not, actually possible to grow bananas here and if so how do I do it? I've always wanted to have a go but believed that it would be a disaster. What do yoy think I'd need? I'm assuming a bit more than a standard polytunnel.🤔

I'm growing lemons quite successfully in my garden ....we have a massive banana tree at work but the bananas just stay green.
NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 09/04/2021 22:45

I rely on that packaging - I try to buy british wherever I can! My kids don't eat strawberries etc year round, it's a lot of pears and apples for us through winter as there are British ones year round.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 09/04/2021 22:48

I'll consider Wales a country when it's truly capable of economic independence from the rest of the home nations. Is it?

BashfulClam · 09/04/2021 22:52

Not my flag, the uk is not a country it is made up if 4 countries, Britain is made up of 3 countries. So I will display my country’s flag...🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:00

The only people I know who sneer at the flag are on here in real life I know no one of any nationality who has an issue with British flags in Britain
It seems there are groups of people who look to be offended by almost anything even on behalf of others at times

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:02

@Jurassicperk the irony if your post imagine if we said that about another country

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:04

@Jurassicperk then I take it you take offence to many other flags as well
Spain , portugal , Germany all have bad things in their pasts , in fact not many countries that don't
Do you live here ?

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:06

@pourqouimoi erm so were none of europe involved in slavery , world wars etc
None of us alive today had anything to do with the past, how long should we be held responsible for ? The world was very different
You can't change or erase history you can only learn from it

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:11

@pourqouimoi are you proud of the scottish flag ? Did Scottish people play no part in colonisim?

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:13

@unexpectedthird no I don't think you could grow bananas here as we don't have climate

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:14

@unexpectedthird I would guess to grow successfully you would prob need Kew gardens, but then i struggle to even keep herbs alive

PferdeMerde · 09/04/2021 23:17

@LemonRoses are you on glue?

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:17

@PMcGintysGoat I have only ever see the British flag on not individual nations
Re brexit think you will find 2 countries voted majority leave and the other 2 was quite a fair amount as well
Lets not pretend it was any other way

Amortentia · 09/04/2021 23:19

I think any one saying they don't understand what the problem with the Union Flag have absolutely no experience of sectarianism. It might seem petty to some but It's like saying what's the problem with golly wogs, you either get it or you don't.

I wonder how many who say they live or were born in Scotland and don't have a problem come from the west side of the central belt. Things have improved in Glasgow but there plenty of places in its environs where sectarianism is very much still alive. Even the most staunch Unionist would be able to acknowledge why many people in the central belt hate the Union Flag and what it represents.

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:22

@Amortentia well obviously not to many Scottish athletes do when competing in the Olympics etc

DdraigGoch · 09/04/2021 23:22

@LemonRoses

I've never seen bananas with a Union Flag sticker. I can't really comment on carrots as I buy them loose but again I rather doubt that there are Spanish carrots with British branding.
@LemonRoses you're going to have to do better than that rather poor photoshop. There is a very obvious carrot behind the "Tesco" branding. Who the hell would describe bananas as "crunchy"? Are you trolling or just gullible enough to believe everything you see on the internet?
Jurassicperk · 09/04/2021 23:22

@worriedatthemoment

Ironic name. I'm a bit worried about you myself, you feeling ok? Grin

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:25

@Jurassicperk yes why would I not be because i don't agree with you forgot its mumsnet and some don't like others having an opinion

alibongo5 · 09/04/2021 23:25

@LemonRoses

I think when it appears on bananas or we find British carrots grown in Spain it is truly ridiculous. Can’t abide the jingoistic, flag waving neo-fascism that is evolving. I’d choose products without a union flag plastered all over them.

The flag worship around central government is cringeworthy. Zoom calls plastered in them. The move for them to fly from public buildings is reminiscent of 1933.

Totally agree - it's embarrassing.
worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:27

@alibongo5 why is it embarrassing to fly a flag ? European countries often have lots of flags do you say the same there ?

LemonRoses · 09/04/2021 23:28
@LemonRoses are you on glue?
Rude.

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:28

The photo of bananas also says great eaten raw or roasted and the poster thinks its real

worriedatthemoment · 09/04/2021 23:29

@LemonRoses you realise your banana photo isn't real though right? Or do you regularly roast them

LemonRoses · 09/04/2021 23:31

There is a very obvious carrot behind the "Tesco" branding. Who the hell would describe bananas as "crunchy"? Are you trolling or just gullible enough to believe everything you see on the internet?

And yet Tesco withdrew the carrots as a ‘mistake’. I do like to look at facts rather than hang fast to opinions without basis.

I’m not sure it’s me that is gullible. Where are the 40 new hospitals? Where is the oven- ready deal? Where is the borderless Ireland?
