Aibu to wonder when parents of teenage children have sex?

Just that really! I’m presuming that older kids start to stay up late and go to bed after their parents sometimes. So AIBU to wonder when can you ever have sex? At the moment we have young DC so can do it when we go to bed as they’re already asleep. We don’t really do it that often and we aren’t especially noisy BUT it would be enough noise to be heard if other people were awake in the same house 😳 So what happens when they get older?

Do it with less noise Hmm

FoxyTheFox · 07/04/2021 20:43

There are ways and means to get around every problem.

In the mornings when they’re definitely asleep and very quietly. In an ideal world dont share a wall with DC so less likely to hear.

safariboot · 07/04/2021 20:44

When I was a teen I was given 20 quid and told to go into town for a few hours Grin.

Grumblesigh · 07/04/2021 20:46

When they're deep down a YouTube rabbit hole, headphones on.

Iknowtheanswer · 07/04/2021 20:46

In the morning, very quietly. Teens don't surface until mid morning at the earliest.

VladmirsPoutine · 07/04/2021 20:47

Less noise and pick your moments wisely mainly out of respect for others in the household - but remember that it's your house so no need to dance around it; it's how they even got here to begin with!!

MixedUpFiles · 07/04/2021 20:48

Quietly and quickly when they are distracted by YouTube tends to be the most common around here. Later at night we are just too tired and with Covid we are never alone in the house anymore because our area is still doing remote school.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 07/04/2021 20:51

Mornings, no shared walls (actually teen DC's room is on ground floor anyway), lock on door.

Faultymain5 · 07/04/2021 21:01

Whenever I want to have sex. My kids understand in a loving relationship we get to do that. dh is a middle of night guy when DS is playing computer games, I’m a morning person and so Is Dd. If we are aired for them we’d be abstinent and life is too shortSmile

TommytheSquirrell · 07/04/2021 21:25

My parents as used to make an excuse and go to their bedroom to ‘fix’, ‘sort’ or ‘reorganise’ whatever on Sunday evenings at the exact same time every week when me and my siblings were teenagers.

Took us a surprisingly long time to realise what they were doing and we only figured it out because my brother choose to barge through the shut door one week 😂

TheVampiresWife · 07/04/2021 21:39

DD is 25 and still lives at home. Ours is a tiny flat with paper thin walls and her bedroom is next to ours. She's currently at home all the time (lost her job in the first lockdown and hasn't been able to find another, and she's really tried to). Sex is becoming a distant memory, even though me and DH still fancy each others' pants off. It makes us very sad and frustrated

Peachypips78 · 07/04/2021 21:40

We 'put the washing away upstairs' when they are on the PlayStation!

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 07/04/2021 21:42

When DS was going in for one lesson a week, me and DH both booked 'planning time' in our diaries!

Nights are impossible so you need to get creative,

gabsdot45 · 07/04/2021 21:53

I have 2 teens. DH and just lock the door and get on with it. With their doors closed I don't think they hear anything.

Raspberrysins · 07/04/2021 21:56

@Notinthisworld obviously this is a very sensible option thanks. (Thanks also for using the famous MN emoji. Hmm) I feel it’s a right of passage on here

Whenever I want. Ours are all legally adults and if they don't like it they are welcome to move out!

MumofSpud · 07/04/2021 21:58

Had to laugh - my DH will now only DTD in an empty houseHmm so we have to take advantage of whenever DD (15) goes out.
I work in a school so school hours but 'luckily' arrives home later than I do so often it is in the afternoon Wink

Raspberrysins · 07/04/2021 21:59

Thanks also for sharing all your real life suggestions. I was genuinely curious! We’ve got so used to (pretty sporadic) late night sex that I think it would feel strange in the day time or morning. Maybe we might find a new lease of life when the time comes..

Whenever we feel like it. If we’re too noisy we may get a wry comment from them, but it’s usually fine.

steff13 · 07/04/2021 22:01

My husband and I are separated now, but we did it whenever we wanted.

AChickenCalledDaal · 07/04/2021 22:10

We are surprisingly keen on early nights at the weekend. I've always assumed our two teenagers (15 & 18) would have worked it out by now. But judging by a comment overheard last Saturday night, ay least one of them remains in blissful ignorance.

To be honest, I think they are both glad when we go to bed before them because they don't get nagged to go to bed on time.

PoptartPoptart · 07/04/2021 22:13

Early night at the weekend while they are still playing online with friends with headphones on
