Aibu to wonder when parents of teenage children have sex?

Just that really! I’m presuming that older kids start to stay up late and go to bed after their parents sometimes. So AIBU to wonder when can you ever have sex? At the moment we have young DC so can do it when we go to bed as they’re already asleep. We don’t really do it that often and we aren’t especially noisy BUT it would be enough noise to be heard if other people were awake in the same house 😳 So what happens when they get older?

We don’t! Eldest goes out but youngest is always in. Eldest wakes up late and youngest wakes up early. Sigh

Larsingsong · 07/04/2021 22:31

Between 3-4pm ish when the planets align and I'm off work and dh gets home from work early.

Larsingsong · 07/04/2021 22:33

And they not home from school

Temp023 · 07/04/2021 22:34

I think it was last November, but I could be out by a week or two

When the dc are at school ... or v quietly in the eve...

VienneseWhirligig · 07/04/2021 22:37

We used to wait until he was at school (I worked from home, DH worked shifts). Or we would go away for a mucky weekend, or pack him off to his grandparents.

whiteroseredrose · 07/04/2021 22:39

With teenagers, in the morning about 7am. They were never awake at that time.

KnottedFern · 07/04/2021 22:43

If my parents were anything to go by, whenever they like 🤮! I took to wearing headphones on a permanent basis. Probably why I'm so deaf now.

Hotcuppatea · 07/04/2021 22:45

Weekend mornings. They're sparko until about 11am.

Hoolihan · 07/04/2021 22:49

@CatherinedeBourgh

Whenever we feel like it. If we’re too noisy we may get a wry comment from them, but it’s usually fine.
Your teenagers make 'wry comments' about overhearing you have sex? What sort of wry comment? I sort of don't believe you.

We are weekend mornings when they are out or consumed by tech.

TokyoSushi · 07/04/2021 22:53

About 5am here before anybody is awake!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 07/04/2021 22:54

My kids aren't this old yet but I assume this is why I was packed off to youth orchestra for 3 hours every Saturday morning

There are a range of hobbies you can enrol kids in involving dropping them and collecting them an hour later. Use your time wisely.

Flowers24 · 07/04/2021 22:54

Mornings, or when they have headphones on!!

Flowers24 · 07/04/2021 22:54

@Hotcuppatea

Weekend mornings. They're sparko until about 11am.
11am ? thats early here !
Idontbelieveit12 · 07/04/2021 22:56

It’s practically impossible here, 2 teens and a 4 year old

dappledsunshine · 07/04/2021 22:57

Usually around 3 or 4am when we know they will be asleep. It's not ideal but we have such thin walls I can't relax and get into it if there's a possibility of being overheard.

SmashedAvocado · 07/04/2021 23:00

Adult DD’s room shares a wall with ours so when she’s at staying at her bfs (a few times a week, keep hoping she’ll say she’s moving in with him Wine). Other teens are usually downstairs or in rooms gaming with headphones on but we’re very quiet now anyway, a lot of practice! Sad. Also early mornings when they’re all asleep. Probably manage it 3/4 times a week.

Pinchoftums · 07/04/2021 23:01

I find it the biggest turn off and lockdown had made it 100% worse. We have teens and a 10 year old who is still up at 7am. Someone is always awake. We don't have a lovely big house. All our bedrooms are withing a 1.5 metres of each other and there are gaps under All the thin doors. It's a bit shit tbh.

JaceLancs · 07/04/2021 23:07

It’s been a while as my DC are now adults
When they were teens we were just quieter or discrete
Made the most of times when they were out - at sleepovers or even just at clubs or sports
Left them at home and we went out - al fresco or in car etc

BlueBellsTwinkle · 07/04/2021 23:09

Locks on doors, sound playing in room. Bookshelves or wardrobes on adjoining walls, ( soundproofing)
It’s not rocket science really

Oneborneverydecade · 07/04/2021 23:09

With a teen, pre teen and almost 3yo (who shares our room) the answer, currently, is never

Trustisamust · 07/04/2021 23:11

We have a 14 yo, an 11 yo and a 10 month-old.
So pretty much never!!! Grin

VashtaNerada · 07/04/2021 23:14

We have an “afternoon nap” on the weekends after checking both DC are glued to screens. Sometimes we manage it in the evenings as well but that’s more tricky as DD stays up late and then skulks about the house.

nokidshere · 07/04/2021 23:19

Well pre covid they had both left to go to uni, it was fab! But now they are home it's a right pain. We can have slow quiet sex in the mornings when they are fast asleep since they have not long been in bed! But I don't want slow quiet sex, I'm kicking them back out to uni ASAP 😉
