And to think I actually used to like him.

Pretty shitty opinions from him, but to be honest, a LOT of men (and even some WOMEN) think this, that if a woman dresses a bit provocatively, she is 'asking for it!' (I don't think this by the way!)

StoneofDestiny · 07/04/2021 15:20

Outrageous, not surprising coming from a country that sets women well below men

RickiTarr · 07/04/2021 15:22

He’s been in a pretty fast downward slope from western playboy to ultra-conservative Pakistani, hasn’t he?

I feel for Jemima and their sons. It must be a lot to navigate.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 07/04/2021 15:22

It’s disgusting but unfortunately quite a few people think this crap.

Happycat1212 · 07/04/2021 15:25

Lots of people think that. Even some women.

Sauce for the goose is never sauce for the gander with these men.
TooYoungToNotice · 07/04/2021 16:27

Perhaps Mr Kahn should be forced into Purdah himself. Forced to have his head and face covered, treated as less than human. A little taste of his own medicine to see how much he likes it.

Mr Khan could have suggested that as men are the ones at fault they should be the ones to remedy this situation. He doesn't suggest educating boys to understand consent and bodily autonomy, he doesn't suggest appropriate punishment for the men committing this heinous crime. Rather than tackle the men that rape Mr Khan proposes that all women have their lives curtailed at all times. He's just another fucking horrid misogynist.

Hopefully one day the women of Pakistan will be free from men like Mr Khan.

Britsy · 07/04/2021 16:30

Have you seen how his wife dresses?

LemonInPlay · 07/04/2021 16:36

I suspect he just says/does whatever will appeal to the people he is trying to win over at the time.
It used to be western cricket fans, now it's the right wing of Pakistan, so his "opinions" change accordingly.

But it's a fucking shit thing to say anyway.

Plus this whole subject pisses me right off......men will fetishize literally anything, including the burqa and niqab....there is shit loads of "burqa porn" online (I know this cos me and a mate used to play a game of what's the most unlikely thing to be porn.... it's actually terrifying what men will pornify!) , so clearly it doesn't matter if women wear a bikini or a burqa they are still objects.

DoingItMyself · 07/04/2021 16:45

Oh dear. He used to be so beautiful, as well.
Wife? Bushra Maneka? She looks perfectly respectable to me.

BrumBoo · 07/04/2021 16:46

He's the Trump of Pakistan, isn't he? Just like Trump, changed his politics when he sensed getting into power.

PeanutButterCheesecake · 07/04/2021 19:28

What a fucking ignorant prick. Lacking the intelligence to understand that men should take responsibility for their own behaviour.

Mittens030869 · 07/04/2021 20:09

Sadly, I’m not the least bit surprised. It’s what far too many people still believe, including a lot of women.

Umbivalent · 07/04/2021 20:12

Fucking hypocrite that he is. Vote-chasing hypocrite.

He used to hang around Chelsea. Was a right tart.

Mittens030869 · 07/04/2021 20:21

One rule for men and another for women in his opinion. I suspect it really is what he believes, too, and probably always did.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2021 20:29

I'm willing to bet that societies with more cultural nudity, whether that's saunas in Scandinavia or bush tribes in the Kalahari have less sexual assaults than cultures with prescriptive and heavily sexed clothing requirements.

VladmirsPoutine · 07/04/2021 20:34

This attitude is not a new phenomenon as pointed out by PP among both men and women. Indeed even the advice oft given out places the onus on women i.e. don't wear headphones; call a friend and so forth. I'm reminded of a thread on here or elsewhere where women were answering what they would do if all men had a curfew or something similar and a lot of responses were things like going for a midnight run; wearing particular clothing and so forth. I've even internalised this to some extent myself as in the way I conduct myself when out and about.

jessstan2 · 07/04/2021 20:38

Me too, that is quite a shock. However I do not trust the media and wonder if he actually said it. Reporters ask questions that sometimes result in a question for an answer, which they then twist. So who knows? Context is all.

FoxyTheFox · 07/04/2021 20:41

He obviously hasn't seen the What I Was Wearing exhibit in which victims of sexual assault and rape show the outfits they were wearing to help dispel the myth that women bring it on themselves by dressing provocatively.

(TW: article discusses victims stories and has photographs of some of the outfits including children's clothing)

mineofuselessinformation · 07/04/2021 20:44

'However I do not trust the media and wonder if he actually said it.'
It's been reported from more than one source.
Victim-blaming much????
It's outrageous and disgraceful.
I saw the reports earlier on today, and very nearly started a thread myself, but have a lot going on in RL and knew I couldn't respond appropriately.
I'm beyond word with this. Now we know why the culture of sexual assault and rape exists in some countries.

SmashedAvocado · 07/04/2021 20:51

He is disgusting.

It’s all us women’s fault for leading men into temptation. They can’t be expected to control themselves and not brutally rape us and murder us can they?

Even the many children that are raped in Pakistan hold more responsibility not to tempt men than men have not to rape and murder themAngry.

It’d be nice if he was politically shunned for saying what he said but that won’t happen.

luckylavender · 07/04/2021 20:55

One of my sporting icons. I was so enraged when I saw that.

bonfireheart · 08/04/2021 00:04

If he didn't say it, then he would have issued a clarification immediately.

As a Pakistani, nearly everyone I grew up with idolised him. We expected so much when he became PM. I have no words today. He has given justification to so many, the comments I am reading are just awful.

RickiTarr · 08/04/2021 00:29

Jemima has slapped him down using a Qur’anic quotation, which cheered me up a bit.
