Shark or dyson

I am BU. I bought a Henry not long ago, I love my henry but it’s done something weird to my new carpets. It’s sort of made them go hard, if I don’t use the brushes it doesn’t pick up l, but if I do, it messes up the pile. They were cheapish carpets but they’re ruined after less than a year.
I’m also sick of the wire, everywhere all the time.

So aibu to buy another Hoover I can’t really afford and if not, which cordless is best for less than £300, preferable £250

I hate my shark. It blocks up and loses suction constantly (as soon as I have emptied it). It is incredibly frustrating.
Haven’t had a Dyson for 20 years, hated that too. It lost suction. Sorry I’m not helpful. I have a Miele. It lifts my rugs off the floor because the suction is so powerful.

LongIslandIcedT · 06/04/2021 08:19

GTech Pro 2.

FindingMeno · 06/04/2021 08:21

Love my cordless Dyson and if I have the means, when this finally dies I will get another. If I can't I may give up hoovering entirely with the huff.

DinosaurDiana · 06/04/2021 08:22

I don’t think any of them are that great, they don’t beat an upright hoover.
The only thing my Dyson is good for is the laminate and Lino floor. It’s crap on carpet.
Mine is losing its battery life, and now matter how much I clean it out, it’s still dusty inside.
Stick with a good upright.

Sexnotgender · 06/04/2021 08:23

I have a cordless dyson which is excellent.

I also have a corded shark which is great too, I’ve heard the cordless shark isn’t great though.

savethewales · 06/04/2021 08:23

I hate our shark, another one here where it just seems to lose its suction and to constantly need dismantling. It’s meant to be an anti-wrap hair one but it isn’t...
We have a second hand Miele from my husbands parents and it’s brilliant, feels like it properly hoovers the carpets.

lastqueenofscotland · 06/04/2021 08:25

I know a lot of people who’ve had issues with the build quality kf Shark.
I have a Hoover brand Hoover and it’s really good and much cheaper than comparibles

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 06/04/2021 08:27

I love my cordless Shark!

Elieza · 06/04/2021 08:27

It sounds like it doesn’t work properly.

Has it always been like that?

Is it supposed to work without tools (my dyson isn’t)?

If your Henry is under a year old it should be still covered by warranty. If it’s under six months and you bought it online I think the company you bought it from is responsible. Otherwise I think it may now be the manufacturers.

Dig out the receipt. Look at the info you have for it and see what the plan is. You could get it fixed or money back.

I vote for dyson. Based on a tv prog where they tested all the new models at the time. The shark didn’t perform as well as the dyson.

AmandaHugenkiss · 06/04/2021 08:28

I have the shark pet one, with a cord, and it’s bloody amazing. Got it on an Amazon lightning deal so it was only a sharp intake of breath expensive, rather than a huge gulp and watering eyes expensive.

HelebethH · 06/04/2021 08:31

I am the opposite to most posters I love my Shark!!!!!
I have gone through 4 dysons and will not have another one - ever. Nothing bit problems. 2 of them replaced by dyson.
Shark cleans so much better. Build quality superior.
Both daughters also have Shark and love them,

bigbluebus · 06/04/2021 08:38

I also love my Shark lift away with anti hair wrap. After having a Dyson cordless - which was worse than useless - I actually love doing the vacuuming again. I've never had a problem with it clogging up and it deals with my long hair.

PoppenhuisStories · 06/04/2021 08:38

Love my cordless shark. The most recent dyson beats the similar spec shark in tests but for earlier models (which would be more your budget) the shark beats the dyson. I still have a corded Dyson as back up but don’t really use it.

MumofPsuedoAdult · 06/04/2021 08:39

I've just been through this whole 'Shark v Dyson' debate before settling for a Shark on the recommendation of a friend who'd had both. I absolutely love it.

Then my cleaner turned up and I got all excited about showing her the new Shark and she nearly cried. "Oh no!! Where's Henry gone". I was a bit Shock. She said the only two vacuum cleaners worth using are Henry and Miele. So Henry didn't get relegated to the top of the cupboard and she's using Henry when she comes once a fortnight and I'm using Shark inbetween. We're both happy Smile

Ellpellwood · 06/04/2021 08:40

Love my Shark. 2 Dysons died on us after not much use after 5.5 years so just slightly out of warranty.

LemonRoses · 06/04/2021 08:40

I could never bring myself to buy a Dyson.

rainbowthoughts · 06/04/2021 08:43

I have a Henry which I love, but he only gets an occasional outing nowadays because I bought a stick dyson (it's only a V7) on a deal one day thinking it would be good for upstairs. It's so good I use it everywhere, all the time.

trevthecat · 06/04/2021 08:44

I have cordless shark (the anti hairwrap, pet one) I love it.

eatsleepread · 06/04/2021 08:58

Neither.
Miele all the way.

TomHardyAndMe · 06/04/2021 08:58

Love my cordless shark (well, as much as it’s appropriate to love a vacuum cleaner).

Would rather go back to dustpan and brush than line Dyson’s traitorous pockets though.

eatsleepread · 06/04/2021 09:00

@MumofPsuedoAdult

That's funny, my cleaner said the same thing!

PomegranateSeed · 06/04/2021 09:02

My Shark is amazing. I have a daughter with very long hair and the anti hair wrap works really well.

thismeansnothing · 06/04/2021 09:06

I don't get the fuss over Henry. I had to use them in a previous job as part of our daily cleaning hour and I thought they were rubbish at picking stuff up. The cord was a pain and he bloody had a mind of his own and would not be pulled along.

At home I've recently got rid of a VAX for a shark. The Vax was fab, had a mega long chord so I could so the stairs without unplugging from dstairs (Victorian terrace). But it randomly died on me so we got a shark. Which I do love. It's so light, pics up well and manages with the dog hair and my daughter's hair which gets everywhere. Not had to tackle the rollers with scissors like I did with the VAX. Only annoying thing is the battery dying mid hoovering so I'd deffo look at getting a second batter.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/04/2021 09:08

We have the Shark Pet and it's fantastic though it does need emptying regularly and filters changing every couple of months - but I use it twice a day as we have four pets and both DH and work mucky outdoors jobs.

The amount of grime it picked up in our living room after a year of using a Dyson was disgusting seriously impressive! Grin

summerdreamin · 06/04/2021 09:11

I have a dyson and it's fantastic! Would recommend it.
