Shark or dyson

I am BU. I bought a Henry not long ago, I love my henry but it’s done something weird to my new carpets. It’s sort of made them go hard, if I don’t use the brushes it doesn’t pick up l, but if I do, it messes up the pile. They were cheapish carpets but they’re ruined after less than a year.
I’m also sick of the wire, everywhere all the time.

So aibu to buy another Hoover I can’t really afford and if not, which cordless is best for less than £300, preferable £250

Couldn't cope without my shark !!!

Ladesiderata · 06/04/2021 09:14

I've fallen out with my Shark. It jams up far too easily.

pabloescobarselasticband · 06/04/2021 09:16

Both are rubbish Smile

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 06/04/2021 09:18

I have a Shark lift away. Fabulous.

00100001 · 06/04/2021 09:22

Get a Tineco.

Better than Dyson and shark.

Half the price.

lightlypoached · 06/04/2021 09:23

Not a Dyson. Ours is shit. Blocks all the time. Very frustrating and expensive

WeAllHaveWings · 06/04/2021 09:24

@Iwant2move

I hate my shark. It blocks up and loses suction constantly (as soon as I have emptied it). It is incredibly frustrating. Haven’t had a Dyson for 20 years, hated that too. It lost suction. Sorry I’m not helpful. I have a Miele. It lifts my rugs off the floor because the suction is so powerful.
I have the same problem with the Shark, regular blocking in the hose I can't shift without using the garden hose.

Our current stair vacuuming consists of using a brush on the stair to loosen dog hair as the shark extension motor head is so poor, then vacuum using the motor head while someone puts their foot on/holds the vacuum at the bottom of the stair as the flexi hose (after 3 years) is still so stiff to extend if brings the body banging up the stairs with it.

It is terrible on hard floors too, doesn't pick up all the crumbs on the kitchen floor.

Only reason I haven't bought a new one is no idea what to buy and resent paying money out when this one is still "working".

CareBear50 · 06/04/2021 09:25

Dyson cordless
......loved it at first and recommended to all and sundry. After a year it was utterly useless. .... No suction but noisy. Now stuffed in back of cupboard. Total waste of a lot of money.

Shark lift away (corded)......as far as vacuum cleaners go......this is poetry in motion!! Was £149 on special at Argos. Have had it three years now

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 06/04/2021 09:43

My Shark never gets blocked? Sometimes if I try and vacuum up something a bit too big with the normal brush head attachment thingy it gets stuck and starts rattling and I have to stop and get it out but it never blocks or loses suction?

My main bugbear with it is when I empty it I sometimes have to stick my hand in there to make sure everything is out, but because it's quite satisfying I don't really care!

JollyAndBright · 06/04/2021 09:55

We have a shark vacuum and love it.

I’d have liked another dyson after our old one died but we refuse to support a company whose owner screwed us over by supporting brexit and then moving his company headquarters out of the U.K. to Singapore as soon as the brexit vote came in.

We’ve looked at the gtec cordless vacuums, they have good reviews.

HappydaysArehere · 06/04/2021 10:03

I would never have a Dyson as had a terrible experience with one. I have never had a shark. The best vacuum cleaner I have ever had is an upright Sebo. Have had one for years and bought another simply because I was concerned that with Brexit the price might go up and on my recommendation my SIL bought one and was raving about it and the light on the front. So now I have one upstairs and one downstairs. The Miele that was used upstairs is now in the loft.

Tootsey11 · 06/04/2021 10:03

Cleaner here.

Shark cordless, they really just push the dirt around. Shark upright, shreds the carpet.
Dyson, just don't bother.
Miele, so strong suction, they stick to floor and can't be pushed.
Henry, yes he's stubborn. You need an older model and purchase the power head attachment from amazon. Amazing on carpet and can change heads quickly for in around corners.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 06/04/2021 10:05

Shark do do do do do do, Shark do do do etc.

I have two, a corded and a cordless and love them both. Killed two dysons and swore never again.

Tomcullenisahero · 06/04/2021 10:06

Shark or Dyson.......only one way to find out-FIGHT! (Sorry, made me think of Harry Hill there)
My parents have a Dyson which I've used and is convenient as it's lighter and cordless but I still think my Henry hoover is better. It sounds like it's maybe yours is faulty if it's damaging your carpets.

Frazzledd · 06/04/2021 10:10

@PomegranateSeed

My Shark is amazing. I have a daughter with very long hair and the anti hair wrap works really well.
Really? Mines awful, I keep having to 'unwrap' my hair from it! (The GTech was worse for this though)

It's great at carpets, the attachments handy for corners and bits but it's really heavy too- I'd go for a Dyson next time

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/04/2021 10:48

I like the interchangeable bits on a Dyson. Stair cleaning - use the main carpet cleaning head straight into the motor unit, without the intervening long tube. So you get the full carpet cleaning without having to manhandle an awkward pole up the stairs.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/04/2021 10:52

Neither.

Look at the reviews for Beko.

sympatico1 · 06/04/2021 11:05

Have had 3 Dyson over the years and decided on a change a couple of years ago, and chose the Lift Away Pet Shark (corded). No contest, the Shark is tons better than any Dyson I've used. Never had any trouble with it clogging up, had no problems at all with it; love it!

Dixiechickonhols · 06/04/2021 11:06

Very underwhelmed by shark cordless.

KarmaStar · 06/04/2021 11:06

Of the two, shark.it's suction is so strong it makes my carpets eyes water.😀.

KarmaStar · 06/04/2021 11:07

It's suction.

SunIsComing · 06/04/2021 11:08

Always had dyson so when my one died I tried shark cordless. Shark was shit so I returned it and went back to dyson.

PussGirl · 06/04/2021 11:09

I have a Shark with a cord - it's great. Never used a Dyson.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/04/2021 11:10

I have a Miele wasn’t expensive I think about £80 works brilliantly.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/04/2021 11:13

Sorry not £80 but still great value
