It does not cost £30 to clean three windows surely?

Admittedly it’s a first floor flat and three dash windows. Last time he came it was £15 and I gave him £20 for £10 mins work. He’s the only one that will do it so he’s got me over a barrel. I asked him if he would do the Paynes and he said that will be £30. He’s on his way. There’s two of them,

Well it sounds as though you've agreed to that price. Why on earth did you tip him 33% last time? I think he thinks you're a soft touch.

Mrsjayy · 02/04/2021 08:46

My window cleaner takes £7.50 for 7 windows and the back door. They are taking the piss it sounds like the tenner was to reel you in !

Mrsjayy · 02/04/2021 08:49

Well you will.need to pay him today but just say next time leave the Paynes and go back to £15 and don't tip!

trevthecat · 02/04/2021 08:50

Ours is £5 for front bay, top and bottom, small bay at top and front door

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 02/04/2021 08:50

Is this London? Ours only charges £5 to do the whole front (5 windows) but friends in London think that’s very cheap. I wouldn’t pay £30 though!

dementedpixie · 02/04/2021 08:53

I pay £8 for a whole 3 bed detached house with bay windows and glass patio doors. That's just for the glass, not the pvc surrounds. They use a pole and brush system

Scarlettpixie · 02/04/2021 08:54

Why did you give him £20 when the bill was £15?

Is it just me who doesn't know what 'dash windows' and 'paynes' are?

I would find someone else next time or at least get another quote to compare.

dementedpixie · 02/04/2021 08:55

By paynes do you mean pvc surrounds?
Panes are the glass parts

WeAllHaveWings · 02/04/2021 08:55

£10 for a two storey 3 bed house including sills/frames, front door/patio doors and front/back porch gallows brackets.

There is no shortage of people who do first floor here, they just use their extension poles and do from the ground.

You have agreed a price now so you need to pay, but I would be looking for someone else.

dementedpixie · 02/04/2021 08:56

Are they sash windows?

MoiraNotRuby · 02/04/2021 08:56

Today is a Bank Holiday so I suspect he is charging double the usual rate?

Shezlon · 02/04/2021 08:57

We pay £40 for 25 windows! What did he wash the first time if not the panes (glass)? A first floor flat is only the same as cleaning an upstairs on a house so it shouldn't be that difficult.

If we need someone to do a job, we start by asking on our local Facebook page, have you tried that? It definitely
sounds like he thinks you are a soft touch and is taking the piss.

Jangle33 · 02/04/2021 08:57

Where do you live? What a strange post! If no one else will do it he could charge you a £1,000 if he wanted. It’s not just the time spent but the equipment, time spent travelling surely you can see that? Or just have dirty windows if you think it’s a rip off Hmm

Mrsjayy · 02/04/2021 08:58

God I said Paynes too I think the op meant sills ?

autumnboys · 02/04/2021 08:59

I pay £22 for 10 windows (1 bay), 2 doors and the outside of our conservatory. They use a pole system, so they do the windows and the sills. I do think what you’re describing is a bit expensive! I tip at Christmas.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/04/2021 08:59

My guess is roughly rhyming and - dash = sash and paynes = frames?
EachandEveryone · 02/04/2021 09:00

Yes london he’s been and gone. So 8 minutes? He took £20 I showed him the two back windows which I can’t reach he said if he does them it will be £40 as they need a proper clean, then going forward it will £30 front and back

MoiraNotRuby · 02/04/2021 09:01

I think auto correct means panes = Paynes and I decided a dash window was a velux skylight kinda thing, no idea why though!

WeAllHaveWings · 02/04/2021 09:01

£40 as they need a proper clean

He doesnt do a "proper clean" for £30 🤣

dementedpixie · 02/04/2021 09:03

£30 is a pure rip off
I wouldn't pay that much

dementedpixie · 02/04/2021 09:04

But panes are glass so if he didn't do them the first time what did he clean?

GigantosaurusRex · 02/04/2021 09:04

We pay £10 for 7 windows and the 2 doors. What he's charging is extortionate!

shouldistop · 02/04/2021 09:06

I have 10 windows and my window cleaner charges £12! Most of them are big windows too

Ginqueen456 · 02/04/2021 09:07

I pay £20 for 9 windows and 2 doors on my house to be cleaned.

shouldistop · 02/04/2021 09:07

I'm not sure what dash windows or paynes are either? If you mean panes then that's the glass?
