It does not cost £30 to clean three windows surely?

Admittedly it’s a first floor flat and three dash windows. Last time he came it was £15 and I gave him £20 for £10 mins work. He’s the only one that will do it so he’s got me over a barrel. I asked him if he would do the Paynes and he said that will be £30. He’s on his way. There’s two of them,

If you’re gonna just pay what he demands why are you asking ? You will find someone else to do it if you ask around . He’s charging you these prices because he thinks you will pa it surely ?

No one else sniggering at being charged £30 to do the Paynes, both of them? Just me then...Blush

And dash is clearly sash, s is right next to d on the keyboard and wouldn't be picked up by a spellchecker.

Veterinari · 02/04/2021 09:25

I think Paynes is panes - not sure if OP means the actual glass panes as that would be a standard window clean or if she means the window frame and sill which she's calling a Payne (it isn't)

Dash is sash I think.

@EachandEveryone most sash windows have either a tilt or a way of pulling the windows down so that you can stick an arm out and clean the glass yourself if that helps

EachandEveryone · 02/04/2021 09:26

Sorry I meant sils

The number of windows is not where most of the cost is, most of the cost is in the travel time to the job so going from three windows to four windows isn't a 33% increase it's barely any increase at all.

Cheap window cleaners have a "round", you don't phone them up and ask them to come, they optimise their round for minimum time between jobs by getting lots of houses in the same place on the same day so they can do them all, you need to find one of these if you want your windows cleaned cheaper.

GigantosaurusRex · 02/04/2021 09:28

Yes!! Ours does most of the street when he comes.

Icanflyhigh · 02/04/2021 09:30

Mine is 15 for a full 4 bed detached house including sills and fascias.

borntobequiet · 02/04/2021 09:30

I hope the Paynes were grateful.

Weebitawks · 02/04/2021 09:32

I pay £10 for my house, including the door and French windows (patio doors)

EachandEveryone · 02/04/2021 09:32

Sorry it was early he was on his way. I meant sils, he’s the only one that will come out because the others all use machines and he’s old school.

I had a quote for £25 for a 3 bed semi. I told him he charged too much so no thanks.

Begonias · 02/04/2021 09:36

We've paid £10 for 22 windows for the last 10 years and our window cleaner charges and extra £15 to clean the window panes and ledges

Babdoc · 02/04/2021 09:38

I pay £5.50 for a 4 bed 2 storey detached house, which includes floor to ceiling glass doors across the whole width of the sitting room. I think you are being badly ripped off, OP.

idontlikealdi · 02/04/2021 09:42

I pay £8 for top and bottom front large bay windows inc sills and front door which has glass above it too.

£14 for front, back and two velux windows.

London.

You are being properly ripped off!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 02/04/2021 09:54

I pay 16 for a 4 bed house so maybe 12, windows?
If its London, there will be some one else to do it?

DumplingsAndStew · 02/04/2021 09:57

Bloody hell. I pay £6 for a 3 bed terrace. 8 windows.

l2b2 · 02/04/2021 10:00

1st floor flat should only be the same height as the upstairs of regular house; so why is this window cleaner charging so much?

Does he is extending cleaning poles or a ladder ?
I pay £13 for a 4 bed house, which is about right.

FluffMagnet · 02/04/2021 10:03

We do pay £30, but its for 25 windows including our folding doors (which is 4 doors wide, but am only counting as "one" window).

EnglishRain · 02/04/2021 10:09

I pay £16 for eight windows made up of 12 panes each, two smaller four pane windows and two doors with 12 panes in each. Basically a window cleaner's worst nightmare.

Midlifelady · 02/04/2021 10:16

I pay £45, he uses a ladder. I have four sets of large triple bays, four sets of fully glazed french doors, several single large windows. I think he is expensive but he is so busy he's moved me from monthly to every six weeks!

bananaboats · 02/04/2021 10:17

I pay £4 for 2 large windows upstairs flat. Wouldn't dream of paying £30!

wheresmycrown · 02/04/2021 10:33

3 for 3 Windows?! Wtf
Ours is £30 too. That is for all frames and sills. 2 doors, 1 patio door, 1 set of bifolds, 4 velux windows, 11 windows and a large picture window with patio doors in it.

Your window cleaner is taking the piss

ginghamstarfish · 02/04/2021 10:39

Why on earth would you tip someone charging so much (and no doubt all cash in his pocket)? I haven't had a window cleaner for years as I have also found the ones round here charge crazy prices - wouldn't even mind so much if I knew they were paying tax etc.

HotChoc10 · 02/04/2021 10:41

No idea what the going rate is but I can't imagine leaving the house for some of the prices you're all saying

Whatapalavaa · 02/04/2021 10:43

£8 here for 7 windows
