So, name change for obvious reasons...

I've been having some fanjo discomfort over the last few days - a sort of vague burning sensation. I don't really want to go to the GP as a) it's a faff, b) it's embarrassing and c) I don't think it's anything serious - although I will if it continues.

Salient points:

  1. Seems to be worse at night
  2. No burning whilst peeing
  3. Don't see that it can be an STI as I haven't had sex in forever (six months) and used condoms
  4. I'm mid-40s but for complicated reasons know that it's not linked to menopause
  5. No discharge
  6. No unpleasant odour
  7. No broken skin / not sore to the touch
  8. No itching
  9. Have been using Simple facewash for my vulva, but have never before been irritated by products and am not prone to thrush

Any ideas??

  1. Seems to ease when I let it "breathe"...

New pants or PJ or wash powder?

timegoesbysoslowly · 31/03/2021 15:15

erm is using simple face wash on your vulva a recent thing, if so I think that is your issue. It's called face wash for a reason!

Blindstupid · 31/03/2021 15:16

I would ring GP as everything you’re doing seems ok and you’ve ruled out questions they would ask ... no need to be embarrassed. Or could you talk to pharmacist?

Dizzy1234 · 31/03/2021 15:20

Could be a yeast infection try plain natural yoghurt which contains Lactobacillus which is a good bacteria, smooth it on and inside, you can use an empty tampon applicator to get some inside, if that doesn't work you may need to ring the gp, you have my sympathy 💐

It was just the mildest, least perfumed and adulterated thing I had to hand! And it's definitely not the cause as I only started it after I noticed the recent symptoms.

Sounds like the start of thrush to me?

Bugger, I've just been to the supermarket.

Thank you - that's good advice.

@timegoesbysoslowly believe it or not whenever I have had it waxed down their the actually recommended you use face wash as it's gentle compared to body soap. Same as when they advised you to exfoliate it, they suggest a facial one.

OP, although not itching it could be trush? I sometimes will get burning as opposed to itching with thrush. Sometimes both which is awful!!! Boots & Super Drug do qb online Dr I believe

@TheQueef

New pants or PJ or wash powder?
No, although I did switch to biological a while ago. Is that bad??

Can't help with the cause but I can help with the symptoms. These have saved my life and my sanity. You can get them on Amazon.

Just googled thrush and found the following...

Symptoms you may experience if you develop vaginal thrush include:

  • vaginal discomfort – itching or burning.
  • a thick, white discharge with a 'cottage cheese' appearance and yeasty smell.
  • redness or swelling of the vagina or vulva.
  • splits in the genital skin.
  • stinging or burning while urinating or during sex.

I don't have any of those symptoms. Confused

TheQueef · 31/03/2021 15:28

My fanny (Vulva and vagina for the purists) hates bio wash powder so I would say bad.
I wondered because it gets worse at night (sleepwear) rather than an all day burn.
Keep it unfettered where possible, I'm a big believer in letting it breathe.

Thank you, but there's no itching at all.

Haha - the unfettered fanny!!

Sleepwear generally washed with underwear...

Have you bought a slightly different toilet roll to usual? My fanjo is on fire if I use any that is scented, even the supposedly gentle aloe vera type stuff.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 31/03/2021 15:32

I had a yeast infection without any of those symptoms. Just awful burning up inside. A swab at the GP confirmed it. (Pre Covid).
Pessaries from the GP sorted it. Might be worth trying an OTC pessary anyway.

Notavegan · 31/03/2021 15:32

I had thrush when younger and old had burning and pain during sex. A swab confirmed it.
Yes biological washing powder is bad generally. Get some thrush cream, try a new powder and extra rinse.

FieryFanjo · 31/03/2021 15:33

I have some Greek yoghurt in the fridge? Blush

OP posts:
Borogroves · 31/03/2021 15:33

Aloe Vera toilet paper? If I use that I get very uncomfortable.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 31/03/2021 15:33

Meant to add mine was due to hot weather and too many sugary cocktails on holiday. Have you had more sugar than usual?

sakura06 · 31/03/2021 15:34

Sounds like thrush to me. Yoghurt is good. I had to use that whilst pregnant. Generally swear by the OTC stuff but they best to see a GP maybe?

Apileofballyhoo · 31/03/2021 15:34

I thought you said burning, but then you said you don't have any of the thrush symptoms, even though burning is one?

I think it might be thrush. I've got no idea what sets it off for me.

gamerchick · 31/03/2021 15:35

Mine doesn't like bio either. Stick your washer on an extra rinse. Treat for thrush anyway and as you're mid 40s, dryness could be an option.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 31/03/2021 15:36

Ok disclaimer that I have never tried this but an old boss of mine swore by frozen sausages as thrush relief.
