AIBU to ask for help for my fiery fanjo?

So, name change for obvious reasons...

I've been having some fanjo discomfort over the last few days - a sort of vague burning sensation. I don't really want to go to the GP as a) it's a faff, b) it's embarrassing and c) I don't think it's anything serious - although I will if it continues.

Salient points:

  1. Seems to be worse at night
  2. No burning whilst peeing
  3. Don't see that it can be an STI as I haven't had sex in forever (six months) and used condoms
  4. I'm mid-40s but for complicated reasons know that it's not linked to menopause
  5. No discharge
  6. No unpleasant odour
  7. No broken skin / not sore to the touch
  8. No itching
  9. Have been using Simple facewash for my vulva, but have never before been irritated by products and am not prone to thrush

Any ideas??

OP it could be hormonal. I sometimes get this a week before my period and it's a complete nightmare, worse at night but no discharge, smell or any of the other things you mentioned in your list.

I do know that eating more than one orange a day sets mine off too so I am very careful not to.

I have had thrush in the past and sometimes have to medicate for it, but not for a few years now.

(though mine itches rather than burns - it itches if I scratch it too much, which I obviously try not to, but sometimes in the middle of the night when half asleep)

Could be a yeast intolerance. Feels like thrush but without the discharge. Try an antihistamine and if it feels better could be a food intolerance or allergy.

Sanitary products? I find certain sanitary towels irritate me (the always ones with the fragranced core)
Or, threadworms??

You should only be using mild soap on your nethers anway. Don't be fooled by thinking simple wash is pure...it'll be full off anti-fanjo ingredients.

I'd try a thrush treatment if I were you. I had a swab taken when I was pregnant for completely different reasons but it picked up thrush. I had absolutely no symptoms of it.

I do find the vagisil cream useful - for burning/hot sensation, not itching.
Baths - not too hot, no bath foam etc, can provide temporary relief.
Would also recommend washing with water only.

Threadworms?

FieryFanjo · 31/03/2021 19:24

@Tootsey11

How do you know you are not perimenopausal?
Well I'd rather not go into it, but I have a condition that means that doesn't apply.

Oral or topical?

I get thrush like this. I suffer with reoccurring thrush and often its literally just the burning and some redness when you look inside Blush. Also this is so strange but im intolerant to garlic - but still eat it and often I will have affects down there from it as though its reacting and irritating there too. Not sure if thats even a real thing but it happens!

PurplePeach83 · 31/03/2021 19:48

To OP and anyone else on here who suffers recurring thrush or UTIs please try Optibac for Women probiotics. There are lots of versions, it has to be the 'for women' variety. They have honestly changed my life, it rebalances all the natural flora from within and you should start to feel relief within 24-48 hours.

If you do go down the canesten route for thrush, my fanjo strongly advises you try the oral tablet before the pessary. The latter took mine from itchy/ burning to having to sit with an ice pack between my legs for a couple of days. The most unbearable sensation

I have very sensitive skin and a fanjo that's prone to issues like this. Go back to using non bio washing powder, (I use surcare), knock the facewash on the head and try washing all your pants pretty hot with a small amount of (non bio) washing powder.

I'd say you've irritated it with the biological washing powder and further annoyed with the face wash. Fanjos are self cleaning and only need water on them. They've got a fine ph balance.

My fanjo thanks your fanjo very much for the advice. Grin

I would advise some caution to rush-in with lots of different treatments. I had some soreness and swelling at the beginning of March and started using different products, one of which made it much worse which resulted in three weeks of pain and stinging whilst I tried loads of things to get it under control.

I really would advise seeing your practice nurse for swabs, not using soap and using some gentle cream to soothe the area.
The nurses do smear tests all the time, yours will not be the first vagine they have seen that week.

Do you have slight discomfort in your lower tummy? Need to pee more? .could be interstitial cystitis.
