Crowds in the parks yesterday

Mrgrinch · 31/03/2021 10:42

I've been seeing pictures and videos of the amount of people gathering in the sun yesterday and I am genuinely shocked.

Has nobody learned anything in the past year?
Do they want to continue going in and out of lockdown forever?

I really do understand the people who just want their freedom back, I want mine too. But the pictures of Hyde park yesterday look like something from a music festival. Not to mention the mess left behind this morning.

Should I just shut up because transmission is low outdoors? Or is this a sign that warm weather means people ignore all the rules?

After seeing lots of pictures today I'm more angry that people leave such huge amounts of rubbish behind. Disgusting behaviour and one which there is absolutely no excuse for.

Knitterbabe · 31/03/2021 13:48

There was footage on Midlands news last night, of hundreds of young people arriving by taxi at one of the Birmingham parks. Apparently the meet was organised on social media.

Mrgrinch · 31/03/2021 13:49

@Hey2492

I’ve seen some of the footage myself. I think it can look worse in videos and photos. Not that it makes it any better ofc. If you were there op I’m not sure you can actually moan as you were there yourself?

I live in a rural area do we don’t get the same thing here. Plenty of green space and crowds don’t really happen. Although I expect nearby beaches will be soon be busy. I tend to go out first thing so I cannot go out and get annoyed by it - never been fond of busy places even before covid!

I just live in hope that it won’t affect the rates. We didn’t see a massive spike last summer! 😒

What bothers me more is the amount of mess some people leave!!

Just to clarify, I wasn't at a park and have based my opinion on pictures I saw online. Many people have said that these are quite misleading though.

I do personally think if I had planned to go to the park and there were that many people, I'd try and find a quieter spot.

If people want to got out into parks to get fresh air after being locked up for a year then have at it but the scenes in Nottingham Parks yesterday were appalling. Today the arboretum and one of the city parks has had to be closed because of the sheer volume of rubbish, the poor council workers have had to go in and clean up human shit all over the place how utterly vile.

Topseyt · 31/03/2021 13:53

@Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow

Oh so bloody what?

I am so sick of this whole bloody shit show.

Agree with this.

No longer on board with all of this shit.

LesLavandes · 31/03/2021 13:53

I saw with my own eyes that Brighton Beach was as packed as press photos looked.

Complete lack of social distancing in queues for takeaways as well.

Sigh

Crinkle77 · 31/03/2021 13:53

FFS get a grip. People can't stay locked in their homes forever. Honestly!

wendz86 · 31/03/2021 13:53

People 'crowded' on the beaches in the summer and it didn't cause an uptick in cases. Much better people being outside than in each others houses.

SpeakingFranglais · 31/03/2021 13:54

The Hyde park pictures didn’t surprise me, it’s actually Woodhouse Moor in the Hyde Park area of Leeds which is 95% student area most of which are back to back houses with no garden or little yards. The park has always been full of students on nice days, it’s their only local free space. After being locked up for a year only an idiot would expect them not to be out in droves.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 31/03/2021 13:54

Im sure there are people out there who want this lockdown to continue forever....they seem to get some kind of perverse pleasure out of labelling everyone else a 'covidiot'.

DianaT1969 · 31/03/2021 13:55

Well do you think transmission is high outdoors?

TheKeatingFive · 31/03/2021 13:56

I saw with my own eyes that Brighton Beach was as packed as press photos looked.

And contributed precisely zero to the spread of Covid.

When is this pathetic curtain twitching going to end I ask myself?

hellcatspangle · 31/03/2021 13:56

YABU. We had exactly the same threads last year when it was sunny in the spring, and did we have a spike in infections after all the photos of people on the beaches? No, we didn't, because it was outdoors.

People have been locked up most of the year, half the population are vaccinated, and people need some fresh air. Leave them be.

MrsBerthaRochester · 31/03/2021 13:57

The rules are nonsensical now!! We are ruining young people's lives for many, many years into the future for a virus that badly effects a miniscule amount of people!
We are giving up liberties that we may never get back and people are happy about this and want more?!! Wake up sheeple!

PussGirl · 31/03/2021 14:00

People need to be getting out now. Most will have been i their own groups.

I can't get the littering though - what is wrong with people? Do they like it looking like that? Or just not give a shit?

I'd be tempted to leave it lying for a few days rather than just magicking it away as if it were never there.

wevs · 31/03/2021 14:02

Should I just shut up because transmission is low outdoors
Kinda

The problems with the reopening last year were the indoor venues. Even very busy outdoor events like the various outdoor protests have not been associated with increased virus transmission.

Save your upset for all the non-essential indoor stuff reopening. I know I will be very uneasy about that.

Also unreasonable are whole counties trying to shut themselves: don't come here unless "it's safe and legal" - Well, it is safe and legal from anyone in England to come to Cornwall and Devon, Dorset etc. now as long as we don't stay overnight or come in groups of more than 6 or 2 households. Maybe strive for devolved government so you can set your own rules rather than wishing you could.

My daughter developed agoraphobia in lockdown. We successfully after weeks and weeks got her to the park to meet her friends yesterday. There is a price to pay for continual lockdown. It's fortunate for you that you haven't suffered from it but many others have.

Smartiepants79 · 31/03/2021 14:03

We went to a popular seaside town yesterday. Glorious day.
It was half as busy as I was expecting and everyone I saw was being very sensible. Mask wearing and keeping their distance.
I agree that it’s very easy to make a photo show what you want it to. The queue for fish and chips could have looked awful if taken from the wrong angle.

LesLavandes · 31/03/2021 14:06

I prefer to follow the scientists' advice, rather than some of your rants

sandgrown · 31/03/2021 14:07

I live by the sea . We have had very little litter through lockdown. Yesterday there was food and drink debris and even dirty nappies left 10 yards from a bin . Disgusting behaviour and the Easter weekend not even started yet! Angry

I sympathise

My anxiety is much worse.

I have left the flat most days due to caring for mum and I use public transport. Maybe it's the lanyard or the masks but I am anxious about leaving the flat.

Also, I used to have anxiety around using Tube escalators but now can't use them at all - because I have problems with vertigo now which are caused by grinding my teeth which is much worse than it was because of lockdown.

I think there should be a comma in there, sorry.

kittensarecute · 31/03/2021 14:08

Restrictions are ending, folks. Move on.

Cam77 · 31/03/2021 14:08

Wow the photos of rubbish across UK parks yesterday is horrifying. Doesn't say much good for the inhabitants of Britain I'm afraid.

Agree - the rubbish left behind was what really annoyed me.

They are pigs - I mean what disgusting individuals throw their rubbish around them

LadyCatStark · 31/03/2021 14:08

YABU about the “crowds” but YANBU about the mess left behind!
