Crowds in the parks yesterday

Mrgrinch · 31/03/2021 10:42

I've been seeing pictures and videos of the amount of people gathering in the sun yesterday and I am genuinely shocked.

Has nobody learned anything in the past year?
Do they want to continue going in and out of lockdown forever?

I really do understand the people who just want their freedom back, I want mine too. But the pictures of Hyde park yesterday look like something from a music festival. Not to mention the mess left behind this morning.

Should I just shut up because transmission is low outdoors? Or is this a sign that warm weather means people ignore all the rules?

YAB a bit U regarding people going outside to enjoy the lovely weather.

However, YANBU about the amount of litter that gets left. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to drop any litter anywhere, ever.

diwrnachoflleyn · 31/03/2021 11:08

Lots of people don't have a garden or any outdoor space, either.

RumJerrySailorRum · 31/03/2021 11:08

I live in Leeds.
The photo being bandied about as being Woodhouse Moor, was also in a Local London paper saying it was one of their parks.

It's also been suggested that the photo is an old one of a free concert.

So who knows how many people were getting fresh air ??

The litter left however is out of order, And I think is what has potentially pissed more people off!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 31/03/2021 11:08

I was in Hyde park yesterday (I walk there a lot). It was absolutely mobbed - lots of large groups and even some parties (complete with tables). It was hideously busy.

Salarymallory · 31/03/2021 11:08

* Should I just shut up because transmission is low outdoors? *

Yes please

lavenderlou · 31/03/2021 11:08

The Hyde Park pictures mentioned are the Hyde Park in Leeds, just to clarify. The photos of there, from on the ground and above do look very crowded. I walked through Hyde Park in London yesterday. It was busy but not crowded and people didn't seem to be in large groups. It's forecast to be cold again tomorrow so that should make things a lot less busy!

Orchidflower1 · 31/03/2021 11:09

@Iheartmysmart

The littering is really awful and I do judge them massively for that, but for being outside on a lovely sunny day after what feels like forever being locked up no way.

And if you believe the images in the media then just remember how manipulative they’ve been throughout.

This totally.

I think the pictures can be taken to make the crowds seem more dense.

Anyone caught littering should be banned from the area they litter in for six months.

takingmytimeonmyride · 31/03/2021 11:09

The litter pisses me off. Take your shit home with you. If you can carry a full packed lunch to the place you're going you can carry the empty packets home again. Angry

Other than that I don't blame people for going to a park for a picnic.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 31/03/2021 11:10

I might have seen you there! DS went for a run in the morning and said it was a bit busy - DH at lunchtime and said he was dodging lots of people and bikes. I went about 5 and it was heaving.

littlepeas · 31/03/2021 11:12

The littering is terrible but otherwise I don’t care. People need to be left alone to get on with their lives now.

BillMasen · 31/03/2021 11:13

This isn’t camera angles or sensible socialising. This is stupid

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2021 11:13

If I've learnt anything from the last year it is to make hay whilst the sun shines.

Littering is awful though.

poppycat10 · 31/03/2021 11:15

Trasnsmisson is low to zero outdoors despite all the hysteria about "virus shedding joggers" giving to everyone they momentarily pass.

People are allowed to be in groups of six to semi-unlimited if two household bubbles.

The weather was nice, so people went outside.

I can't actually see any problems with any of this OP? Except "Not to mention the mess left behind this morning" - THAT is the thing to complain about - people are utterly disgusting.

(oh and yes, photos are deliberately taken to make it look like people are breaking the roolz)

poppycat10 · 31/03/2021 11:17

That's fighting, not socialising. Moronic men who need to grow up.

LaceyBetty · 31/03/2021 11:18

We are allowed to meet outdoors. What is your problem?

LaceyBetty · 31/03/2021 11:19

But the littering is unacceptable.

ItsSnowJokes · 31/03/2021 11:19

I don't care about people going out. I do care that they leave the places looking like the local landfill site. Is it really that fucking hard to take your rubbish home or find a bin? So many people do not give a shit that they leave the place looking a state.

FenceSplinters · 31/03/2021 11:22

It’s no more crowded than a school corridor, and at least it’s outside.

Whatisthisfuckery · 31/03/2021 11:24

Some posters on here are evil. They’ll see people dead by suicide caused by depression and isolation.

If you don’t like it, STAY THE FUCK AT HOME

emmathedilemma · 31/03/2021 11:25

From the photos round here it was all groups of teenagers although some of the groups were definitely larger than is permitted. I guess there's nothing else for them to do at the moment and the risks are relatively low outside, especially when they're indoors together at school. The litter left behind and people peeing in streets is unacceptable though!!
www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/19/how-the-beach-super-spreader-myth-can-inform-uks-future-covid-response
To be fair to the government, they do seem to have got this right for once. All the recent messages have been very clear on the relative safety of being out in the fresh air.

BlowDryRat · 31/03/2021 11:26

People have learned several relevant lessons from the last year, including:

 1. Make the most of your rights and freedoms while you can, because they can be arbitrarily restricted at any point without warning.

 2. Outdoor transmission of Covid-19 is negligible, as evidenced by the lack of follow-on cases resulting from the beach crowds last summer.

The litter is inexcusable though.

Lockheart · 31/03/2021 11:27

The litter is fucking atrocious.

KarensChoppyBob · 31/03/2021 11:29

Totally understand people getting excited about a bit of sunshine and the possibility of lockdown ending. But have some manners fgs and don't shit where you eat, boils down to stupidity really .

polelynn · 31/03/2021 11:29

As someone who has felt terribly isolated and highly anxious even about the risk of outdoor transmission (I'd even become nervous of going in my garden) the Guardian link and reassuring comments on this thread hugely help me as I start my recovery.
