Crowds in the parks yesterday

Mrgrinch · 31/03/2021 10:42

I've been seeing pictures and videos of the amount of people gathering in the sun yesterday and I am genuinely shocked.

Has nobody learned anything in the past year?
Do they want to continue going in and out of lockdown forever?

I really do understand the people who just want their freedom back, I want mine too. But the pictures of Hyde park yesterday look like something from a music festival. Not to mention the mess left behind this morning.

Should I just shut up because transmission is low outdoors? Or is this a sign that warm weather means people ignore all the rules?

I sat in local square early this am - lovely. Not planning to join throngs. I’m lucky to live close enough can just turn heel and return home within mins if it’s too busy (no outside space here). Looked pretty awful. I have noticed that some angles and photos make everyone in crowds look far far closer than they actually are.

UnlikelybutTrue · 31/03/2021 13:14

CloudFormations the pics in Leeds were accurate according to DP who passed Woodhouse Moor on the bus yesterday afternoon. His exact words were that it looked like Glastonbury.

Dentistlakes · 31/03/2021 13:14

Cant get worked up about it tbh. There’s so little you can do at the moment apart from sit out enjoying the sun. Hopefully when things start to open up again and everyone is back to work it will be less busy.

AllyBye · 31/03/2021 13:15

What Hadjab said upthread.

There's a coronavirus topic where you can all moan about crowds, joggers and your MIL meeting her friends. I've hidden it. Please stay there.

Feelinghothothottoday · 31/03/2021 13:15

I don’t care anymore. I’m going out and meeting people but still following the guidelines. We have vaccinated the elderly and at risk. What more can we do - stay in for ever? No - we have to live. I could get diagnosed with a terminal illness or run over by a bus tomorrow. We have to move on in the U.K.

MsTSwift · 31/03/2021 13:16

Lots of teens gather in our small city by a beautiful building. Residents living nearby posted to comment how lovely that such a large number of people had pretty much taken their litter home with them.

Tianatiers · 31/03/2021 13:17

Transmission is low outside. Vulnerable people have been vaccinated. Try not to worry about it. Just concern yourself with what you're doing and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. If you don't think it's right to join the crowd then don't.

MaudesMum · 31/03/2021 13:18

Middle aged people with large gardens inviting chums around for wine and snacks yesterday = absolutely fine, hurrah. Despite the fact that its much easier to break the rules when you're in a private and not overlooked garden. Young people with no gardens arranging to meet up with chums for beer and snacks in the park = oh, the horror. Hypocritical, much??

Devlesko · 31/03/2021 13:19

As long as they were keeping a distance and within the rules, it's fair enough.
As to the rubbish, tbh it's nice to see others being blamed for the mess, for a change, dirty gaudges.
Criminalise those who leave a mess, perhaps take their homes too, one rule for all.

MiaChia · 31/03/2021 13:20

Question for those of you who are ‘so over Coronavirus’ - do you leave a load of shit behind every time you go to the park? If so, why?

Also, I wish my family friends who’ve died could get out into the sunshine but it’s too late for them to be ‘over Coronavirus’ 😢

I live in a rough area and the local park is never like that.

Tbh it does make me wonder if the pics are real!

UnlikelybutTrue · 31/03/2021 13:29

Acorn. Can only vouch for the pics of Leeds but it was ridiculous there yesterday and the pics a fair representation.

Redruby2020 · 31/03/2021 13:30

I think the swarms of people is quite over whelming after the last year. If anything it does those of us with anxiety no good. And then of course it is doubtful it will help with transmissions. You will hear of plenty with colds now too.

@Hadjab

Has nobody learned anything in the past year?

We’ve learned that the BLM protests that took place last year, in the warmer weather, did not cause a spike in infections.

We’ve learned that people rushing to the beaches last year, in the warmer weather, also did not cause a spike in infections.

We’ve learned that the virus is less virulent in warmer weather and direct sunshine.

We’ve learned that the camera does lie - what you see from one angle can look completely different from another.

Lets not also forget the hysteria around -

Easter - people meeting and gathering, the covidiots are going to cause another wave

VE Day - people meeting and gathering, the covidiots are going to cause another wave

1st lockdown easing - people meeting and gathering, the covidiots are going to cause another wave

And it never happened, no spike in cases directly due to VE day or Easter.

Walked through our local park yesterday and was so happy to see small groups having a picnic, or three to four people together with camping chairs.

Flamingofeathers · 31/03/2021 13:40

As someone who lives in the area and has sat at the park many times. Yes there were lo of people there but almost no one in the area has gardens so of course people are going to sit at a park when it’s sunny after being inside 6 months. Also yes there are big groups together but people living in houses of 10 is not uncommon in the area. Also from all the pictures I saw on people’s social media people are spread out in their individual groups, it’s the angle of the photos that make people look SO close. Yes the rubbish is awful but that is 50/50. Yes people should take it home but realistically in Hyde park at least, leeds council need to invest in more bins in the area as this is the occurance every single time it is sunny!

AcornAutumn · 31/03/2021 13:40

Sorry to hear that.

I guess here it's a lot of crime by tidy people! 😂

RaspberryCoulis · 31/03/2021 13:41

@Mrgrinch

Not sure why some people are being so angry, I only asked a question.

Some good points about people looking closer together because of pictures being taken at ground level.

Like I said I suspected it was a case of it not being a big issue because transmission is low outdoors.

The litter is a disgrace though.

People are getting angry OP because you posted one thing and are now backtracking furiously because people are not agreeing with you.

Your OP is clear that you disapprove - have people learned nothing, genuinely shocked, ignoring the rules.

And now you're trying to kid us on that you posted meaning something entirely different?

And I give zero fucks about people being outside having fun on a sunny day. Good for them.

The litter is an entirely different matter.

Hey2492 · 31/03/2021 13:43

I’ve seen some of the footage myself. I think it can look worse in videos and photos. Not that it makes it any better ofc. If you were there op I’m not sure you can actually moan as you were there yourself?

I live in a rural area do we don’t get the same thing here. Plenty of green space and crowds don’t really happen. Although I expect nearby beaches will be soon be busy. I tend to go out first thing so I cannot go out and get annoyed by it - never been fond of busy places even before covid!

I just live in hope that it won’t affect the rates. We didn’t see a massive spike last summer! 😒

What bothers me more is the amount of mess some people leave!!

Bins - same issue here, people take litter home.

Friends in the neighbouring richer areas have the same complaint re litter, which is interesting.

NannyR · 31/03/2021 13:43

I was in Roundhay Park in Leeds yesterday evening, and although the traffic and parking around the area was crazy and it looked very crowded in the park, actually, when you walked around, everyone was in small groups and well spaced out on the grass, it didn't feel crowded although it looked like it when you walked past.

NVision · 31/03/2021 13:45

Less than or equal to six, no issues.

Obviously larger groups should be broken up and sent home.

If the park is generally busy, as long as distancing is being achieved then I see no problem. Saw some photos of parks that looked rammed from ground-level angle but then aerial shots you could see small groups of 1-6, by and large, and were well spaced out.

A lot of the people spouting off here have big detached homes with large gardens and grounds or live in quiet villages where the local park is empty (because everyone has said big gardens to relax in). Zero empathy for those living in pokey houses or flats in cities with no outside space.

I am so sick of this whole bloody shit show.
You are not alone. No longer give a fuck.
This pandemic has really highlighted peoples characters those that risk their live and give up their time for others. And then there is people like yourself selfish narcissists who find the bereaved and their families an inconvenience to their lives.[/quote]
Yeah, if you're sick of being locked down for over a year, you're definitely a narcissist!

Some people 🙄 You should go and look up the definition of a narcissist before you fling it around.

Mrgrinch · 31/03/2021 13:46

@RaspberryCoulis haha. Agreeing with something people have said when I asked for opinions is "backtracking furiously"? Okay then.

I asked for people's opinions and they've given them, and in turn given more perspective to me. That's the whole point. Or are you one of those people who can't accept it when they're not right?
